Chapter 13 - Werewolves[1]

"You didn't tell me about a lord's ability to see the status screen of summons, Keira."

No response was given to David's question. Her cold stare continued to drill down on him. Unable to read her thoughts from her impassive face, David persisted with verbal jabs.

"Also, nothing about lord seals. And I can't imagine that you would forget about such an important topic. Nor was there any mention about summons and native traveling out of Cosmic Confluence, though again it is related to lord seals."

Again, there wasn't any change in her expression, making David anxious.

"One thing I can make certain from your actions is that you would desert me in the near future. In that case, you probably wouldn't want your vital information to be revealed to me and I can understand that. But…"

Taking a deep breath and controlling his heartbeat through conscious efforts, David continued.

"But why not reveal about the lord seal? You can easily level up in no time and can break the bond on your own and just outright leave this place, it is not like I can stop you. Do you…"

David hesitated, but let out his most worried questions toward his elven summon.

"Do you want to enter my world after obtaining the seal?"

This is the logical conclusion David arrived at after racking his brain up. As it would be far easier for her to travel to different and more suitable areas of Cosmic Confluence by entering my world and then targeting a lord whose territory would be located in that area.

David suddenly felt the air becoming more tense around Keira, even though there wasn't any change in her facial expression.

'This feeling again.'

As David wondered about the strange phenomenon, Keira finally decided to break her silent treatment.

"You are correct, that's what I have in mind."

Her confirmation was enough for David's mind to go into a spiral of thoughts. Panic gripped his heart strongly while his muscles subconsciously became tensed.

Even though he logically arrived at that conclusion beforehand, he somewhat in his back of mind, wished otherwise. It was always human nature to be propitious even in utter hopelessness.

"Is there no other way to avoid that situation?"

Despair is one of the few things he became accustomed to in the past few years so instead of lamenting over it, he started to find the way out of the perilous situation.

This time Keira moved her face to the side and unexpectedly started inspecting the surroundings.

"It's not like I haven't thought of any other way of leaving. But traveling through your world would be the only way out of this place."

Keira stated as she started moving in her right direction all of a sudden.

"What do you mean the only way?"

David questioned as he inched closer to the summoning gate. Even if the person upon which the question is directed, was moving further from him, every word that left her mouth started filling David's heart with a bad feeling.

"This place… is unusual. Mana density is unlike any other place I have seen or visited so far but even with such Mana density, this place is like tranquil water. Too silent to be true."

Keira answered.

"Silent you say, we just got attacked by a bird in less than an hour of our entry to this place. Not to mention, your level is already 13 in such a short amount of time.

I may not know how people normally progress, but I know enough that you have to hunt shit ton of monsters to level up to that level."

David tried to refute Keira's words after coming up with a logical answer. After determining that the other person had some sort of hostility towards him, even if that was reserved for the future, he started subconsciously questioning her every word and action.

"The bird monster that attacked us was desperate for food and thus recklessly dived and met the end after crashing into the barrier.

Most of the monsters that I hunted afterward also came mad dashing toward the summoning gate and thrashing into the barrier, making it easier to end their life.

Some of them were even Tier 1 monsters. So, the question came here, why even a Tier one monster was desperate for food?"

As David was digesting the newly passed information, Keira suddenly gripped her spear behind her back and yanked it out, taking a defensive stance with her spear raised into the front.

David nearly summoned a portal in the summoning gate but due to the large difference in stats, he wasn't able to follow her movements.

The saving grace was that the spear wasn't pointed towards him.

Following all this, howling sounds started spreading across the surrounding area as the intruder onto which the spear was aimed at, revealed itself.

Grey fur-covered body that initially on its four toes, stands upright on its two hind legs, revealing its visage from the tall grass.

Countless sharp and pointed teeth along with elongated canines. Jaw wide open with tongue hanging out.

A humanoid wolf with hunchback and backward folded knees, bright orange eyes with markings around its neck.

"Tsk! A werewolf."

Keira snorted as she moved her head in yet another direction.

Another werewolf revealed itself and not long after more and more of them started revealing them from the grass.

David lost the count after 50 as they started rising from the grassland.

Even though there was a color contrast between the grass and their fur, they still were able to hide it perfectly until Keira noticed.

Fear took a grip on his heart as David rotated his head and looked in all possible directions, only to find even more werewolves.

They have surrounded them completely and utterly.

Howling sounds became more prominent as the seconds flew by before one of them decided to charge towards David and Keira.

Bang-

Luckily the barrier got activated at the exact moment when the werewolf thrashed itself against it, causing yellow-coloured ripples to appear at the site of impact.

It seemed to David that these werewolves didn't have much intelligence, as even after seeing the first one unable to pass through the barrier, they continued to bang their claws onto it.
