Chapter 15 - Werewolves[3]

It's been two days since the werewolf incident and their demise by a beam of fire, and now things started to settle down.

The appearance of Cosmic Confluence now started getting accepted by the people and the panic it caused started to simmer down while the world also started slowly getting adjusted to the changes brought by it.

The cause of animals changing their appearance and turning into monsters followed by their assault on people, has now been linked to growing mana density worldwide.

All governments, federations, and big companies have now become heavily invested in Cosmic Confluence as more information about it is dug out.

At first, many governments worldwide tried to track down people with links to Cosmic Confluence and detain them to maintain public order but soon came to realize the foolishness of following this principle as more and more portals kept opening all around the world. Their numbers were rising like in a bacteria colony.

People showcasing their abilities gained from Cosmic Confluence became a common sight in the neighborhood while crime rates and mishaps kept on rising as the government found it difficult to detain people with powers.

Seeing one of them doing a parlor trick in the middle of the road while the crowd cheered and filmed, David walked while placing earphones in one ear only.

"Dude, see he is flying!"

"Shut up, he is just suspended in the air at the exact same spot for a minute now."

"Still, it's so cool. I want to have my own ability and travel to another world."

"Yeah, then count on your luck to open a damn portal that throws you god knows where."

"Man, why are you so grumpy? Jealous aren't you."

"Jealous my ass! My mother hasn't returned after the government took her. She is an idiot to call them first instead of consulting us after returning from that damn… what it's called."

"Cosmic Confluence. Sorry bro, I would have kept my mouth shut if you told me earlier."

"Then what? And this pathetic attention grabber is just doing what one shouldn't have done in his situation. It just made me infuriated!"

Listening to bystanders' conservation, David thought.

'Glad that I denied that I'm one of the so-called "Awakeners" when the police questioned me. But the question now is how I tell my parents about it.'

It's good that he was a shut-in and rarely walks out of the room, so he was planning to travel to Cosmic Confluence at regular time intervals but since the world had shaken quite considerably, now they are routinely checking up on him.

The sound attacks of werewolves had hit pretty solid on his cerebellum, making it difficult to maintain balance while walking or doing extraneous tasks and thus made his manner of walking somewhat awkward, increasing his parents' worry.

After regaining consciousness from the werewolf incident, he sustained several internal injuries as well. The saving grace is that they are only minor injuries and the constant level-up had made his stats finally cross the human threshold hold, entering the superhuman category.

The enhanced healing that came from increased constitution made most of his internal injuries patched up but the occasional pain was the remainder that some injuries are still present.

'Damn, even moving a body part slightly hurts like hell.'

This was also a reminder of his weakness.

'The ray of light that came from the sky didn't even touch me directly. The barrier was also taking the brunt of the attack but just remaining in the vicinity of such a large-scale attack, nearly made me cross the door of the afterlife.'

Walking away from all the commotion while rotating his shoulder, David's thoughts continued.

'And to think that attack was from a being just a step away from becoming a full-fledged dragon. Just my luck, all red flags are dropping on my shoulder like snowfall.'

After asking the only person who knew what happened, i.e., Kiera, he came to know that the attack was dragon breath, either from a drake or wyvern. This postulation was further solidified in his mind after recalling the memory of seeing an airplane-like shadow before passing out.

According to Keira, the draconic creature is probably the king of the whole forest and plain in which his territory resides and all other monsters probably kept a low profile to not get the attention of this king who would just shoot condensed fire beams at them, wiping them out of existence.

This caused mid-tier monsters in the area to band together and start working as organized troops instead of solitary animals, increasing the danger in the area manyfold.

While the low-tier monsters are mostly wiped out or barely clinging to life, scavenging anything they set their eyes upon.

And this reason became a major headache for David as the security of his territory was not the only thing that was jeopardized, this also became the reason for Keira to aim for his head to get out of that place.

He clearly remembered her words.

"If there were any other settlement, I would have aimed for them and left you alone as the token of my gratitude to bring me back to life but the only way I see out is I already speak off.

And for you to get out of this predicament is probably to never return to this place or find a lord seal back from your home."

Sighing, he rubbed his head as a headache started coming from all the problems that had been thrown at him.

'So basically, she is saying is to murder a person with lord power and extract the seal from his heart. But the problem is…'

"Ah! I forgot to mention one important thing. The lord seal is just a condensation of the mana of a lord, just like this stone, I'm extracting from the monster's heart. And the probability of this phenomenon happening is around 5 to 10%. So…"

Rubbing his hair, he completed her sentence in his mind.

'So, I have to kill a lot more people to have a chance of lord seal condensation. Basically like loot drops from games that totally depend on luck.'

And luck is the one thing that he probably lacks the most.

'Just who designed this concept, it is totally a game feature. I doubt that Cosmic Confluence creation might be a game geek's dream project.'
