Chapter 14 - Werewolves[2]

The invisible barrier nearly became fully visible as countless yellow ripples spread across its circumference.

But just when David was going to sigh in relief of momentary security, a howl louder and high pitched unlike others resounded in the area, forcing the werewolves to snap back in control and fall back to their previous positions.

The howl came from an unusual werewolf that nearly doubled in size than the rest of the werewolves, and had patches of black fur on its dark gray body that were flickering like flame ablaze.

The assumed leader then stomped its foot on the ground while weird engravings on his neck region started lighting up. His engravings were more profound and convoluted than his peers.

Copying him, other werewolves also opened their maw, and engraving around their necks also charged up.

Seeing their action, Keira hastily covered both her ears and muttered something in an inaudible voice.

All these actions were too fast for David to figure out the situation but still seeing his first summon covering her ears, he also followed the suit.

Still, his actions were for nothing as werewolves decided to throw their charged attack in the form of a high-pitched shrill sound that collided with them in an instant while leaving a small shockwave as they moved.

The sound attack knocked the air out of David, his vision was blurred while white noises filled his ears, nearly driving him insane.

The next moment optical senses came back, he found himself on the ground. His body refused to listen to him and a ringing sound constantly buzzed making him deprived of any auditory feedback from the surroundings.

His eyes moved back to the other person on the receiving end of the attack. Keira was still standing on her legs, a translucent dome-like structure enclosing her ears, taking the brunt of the sound attack.

However, she wasn't left unscathed as her body was shaking in the aftermath.

Unable to move his body, David can only watch as more and more such attacks hit them. Even though they were unmatched by the first attack that came from the leader werewolves, 100 of them made David cough blood in seconds.

Amidst the ongoing onslaught of sound attacks, Keira finally decided to make a move. She extended her hand and made her spear stand perfectly perpendicular to the ground before pulling her free hand backward from the spear's shaft.

Magically, a twisting mass of flame in the form of an arrow appeared, nocked on a spear that was working as a bow right now.

Flames started rotating faster and became enough compressed for the surrounding temperature to increase to a level for the grass around her to set ablaze.

Veins popped on her forehead, her pristine white skin turned completely red. Even while she struggled to maintain this overpowered arrow, her Ruby eyes were glowing, overflowing with determination.

But to David's surprise, Keira doesn't aim the flame arrow at the werewolves. Her aim was the sky above.

When released, the arrow moved with astonishing speed, reaching a great height before starting to lose its momentum.

The werewolves also stopped their howling and were looking at the bright flame arrow that was piercing through the sky.

Their eyes held fear, a profound fear as if they were staring right at death. Not long before some started running away while some just started sorrowfully howling without any sound attack mixed in it.

The fire arrow detonated after reaching high enough. A huge explosion like several tonnes of TNT blasting, filled the sky

"Didn't I say that this place was too silent for its own good. Now you will know why."

Keira said while finding some footing through her spear. It seems the fire arrow nearly took her every strength in the body.

David was barely able to make sense of Keira's against the constant white noises when a humongous pressure descended on the ground, forcing everyone to stop doing what they were doing.

It was suffocating to even breathe, making the already battered David nearly lose consciousness.

The spreading fire in the air was pushed away from the mere air pressure of what was about to come.

A ray of light, brilliant in every, appeared from the swiped flame. The world became more bright than it should have, and the temperature spiked to an unnatural degree.

The grass outside the barrier was instantly burned and turned into ashes before the ray even struck the ground.

The barrier was completely visible at this point. The sight of ripples couldn't be made out as the whole invisible barrier turned translucent yellow, shaking in anticipation of what was about to come.

Pained groans escaped from werewolves as their bodies were caught in fire.

And then the ray finally reached the ground, setting everything in binding light.

'Ahhhh! My eyes.'

The light was of such intensity that even after closing his eyelids shut, David's vision was still white instead of the usual murky darkness. His eyes hurt like they were on fire.

When the light faded and his vision became somewhat stable, he finally decided to part his eyelids and dared to check the surroundings.

"Fuck! *panting* Wha- What the hell *panting* was that?"

Keira was there, kneeling beside him. Tears of blood teaced down her cheeks as she opened her eyes and looked into his.

He didn't say anything, just moved his hand to trace his cheek and as expected they were covered in blood.

The grass around him remained intact until they reached the barrier, but it appeared as though it could wither or be pulled out with the slightest touch.

Behind the barrier was now a whole different world. Charred land with veins like lava flowing through it. Approximately, a quarter of a kilometer radius of area was in a similar state as ashes danced in the air like a sandstorm.

Smoke filled the sky along with sparkles that danced like fireflies. The smoke passed through the barrier unerupted, making the scantily breathable air even scarcer than a hen's teeth.

'Is this hell?'

He thought as he barely kicked the ground and was able to roll into a more comfortable position. Laying on his back, he looked at the sky before inspecting himself.

His clothes were torn and shredded into pieces. Barely some pieces of it covered his body. Blood was coming nearly from all his orifices while his stomach churned to throw out its content.

'It hurt. It hurt like hell. How can hurting like this painfully exist?'

His vision started getting foggy despite his all efforts to remain conscious.

Before getting black out completely, he saw an aeroplane-like shadow coursing through the cloud at great speed.
