Stephanie's POV
The next day, Kate knocked on Stephanie's room door, carrying two cups of hot cocoa. She handed one to Stephanie with a soft smile. Stephanie took the cup, grateful for the warmth and the gesture. Kate sat on the bed, watching her in silence. Surprisingly, the silence didn't make Stephanie uncomfortable; instead, it felt supportive, understanding.
"How are you, Stephanie? Do you want to talk about what happened? It's totally fine if you don't, but I just need you to be okay," Kate said after they sat in silence for a while.
"Honestly? Not good, Kate. I can't sleep; I keep hearing gunshots. I... I was so scared." Tears began to fall as she spoke. She explained everything to Kate, and by the time she was done, they were both crying. Kate pulled her in for a hug, putting her cup down. They stayed there for a while, in comforting silence broken by a few sniffles.
