Chapter 8 - Farewell Approaches

The training grounds were finally quiet as Khione concluded her session for the day. Sweat trickled down her brow, but she felt a sense of accomplishment. Her stasis ability had improved significantly under Lyra's guidance, and she was eager to share her progress with Lady Seraphine.

After a quick change of clothes and a refreshing drink, Khione made her way to the gardens. The sun was beginning to set, casting a warm, golden hue over the flowers and foliage. She found Lady Seraphine seated on a stone bench near a cluster of blooming roses, her serene expression softening as she noticed Khione's approach.

"Good evening, Khione," Seraphine greeted her with a smile. "You look quite exhausted."

Khione laughed lightly as she took a seat beside her. "Training has been intense, but fruitful. I've made significant progress with my time magic."

"That's wonderful to hear," Seraphine said, her eyes reflecting genuine pride. "You've always seemed incredibly talented. I'm glad to see you honing your skills."

Khione smiled appreciatively. "Thank you, Seraphine. Your encouragement means a lot to me."

They sat in comfortable silence for a moment, enjoying the tranquility of the garden. The scent of roses mingled with the cool evening breeze, creating a soothing atmosphere.

"Seraphine," Khione began, turning to her friend, "I've been meaning to ask—when do you plan to return to the Isles of Azeroth?"

A shadow crossed Seraphine's face, but she quickly masked it with a gentle smile. "In three days, I'll be setting sail back to my homeland."

Khione felt a pang of sadness. The thought of Seraphine leaving was hard to bear, especially after they had grown so close. "I'll miss you terribly. The estate won't be the same without you."

Seraphine reached out, placing a reassuring hand on Khione's. "And I'll miss you as well. But duty calls. My people need me, and there are matters that require my attention back home."

Khione nodded, understanding the responsibilities that came with Seraphine's position. "I'll see you off when you leave. It's the least I can do."

Seraphine's smile widened, her eyes glistening with emotion. "I would appreciate that very much. It's comforting to know I'll have a friend by my side until the very last moment."

They continued talking, their conversation flowing effortlessly. Seraphine shared stories of the Isles of Azeroth, painting vivid pictures of its lush landscapes and vibrant culture. Khione listened intently, fascinated by the tales of distant lands and their unique traditions.

"The Isles of Azeroth sound like a magical place," Khione said wistfully. "I hope to visit one day."

Seraphine's eyes sparkled with enthusiasm. "You would love it. And you'd be more than welcome. I'd be honored to show you around, introduce you to our customs and way of life."

Khione's heart swelled with warmth. "I'll hold you to that promise, Seraphine."

As the evening grew darker, the conversation took a more personal turn. Khione shared her struggles with mastering her magic, her hopes for the future, and her fears about the responsibilities that awaited her. She felt a deepening bond with Seraphine, who listened with genuine interest and empathy.

"You know, Khione," Seraphine said softly, "I've always admired how you handle everything with such grace and determination. You have a remarkable spirit."

Khione felt a lump form in her throat. "And I admire your wisdom and kindness, Seraphine. You've been a constant source of support and guidance for me since you arrived in Asterios. I'm lucky to have met you."

The night deepened, stars beginning to twinkle in the sky. Reluctantly, they realized it was time to part ways for the evening. Khione stood up, offering Seraphine a hand.

"Shall we head back?" Khione asked, her voice tinged with reluctance.

Seraphine took her hand, rising gracefully. "Yes, it's getting late. But let's not dwell on goodbyes just yet. We still have a few days to enjoy each other's company."

They walked back to the estate, their steps in sync, and their hearts lighter. The impending farewell was bittersweet, but Khione cherished the time they had left together. The bond they shared would endure, no matter the distance.

As they parted for the night, Khione felt a sense of peace. Seraphine's departure would be difficult, but their friendship had grown strong roots. She knew they would remain close, no matter where their paths led.
