Chapter 27 - Soldiers Squads

The sprawling corridors of Rangar echoed with the sound of hurried footsteps. A squad of soldiers, led by Lieutenant Alina Torres, was on high alert. The facility, normally a hive of activity, was eerily silent, and the tension was palpable. The soldiers' mission was clear: maintain security and ensure the safe evacuation of all personnel. However, they had lost contact with their leader, Aria Shaw, which had thrown the entire operation into disarray.

As the squad neared Aria's last known location, Corporal Devon Matthews, a seasoned soldier with a sharp eye for detail, noticed something amiss. — Lieutenant, — he called out, his voice hushed but urgent, — over here.

Alina approached, her gaze following where Devon pointed. There, on the floor, lay a discarded communication device, one that unmistakably belonged to Aria. The air around them seemed to thicken as the implications of the discovery set in.

— Where is she? — Alina muttered, a mixture of frustration and concern coloring her words. She activated her comm device. — Command, this is Lieutenant Torres. We've found Shaw's communicator, but there's no sign of her. Requesting immediate assistance.

Static crackled through the line before a voice responded. — Copy that, Lieutenant. Reinforcements are en route. Maintain your position and secure the area.

— Matthews, Nguyen, you're with me. The rest of you, hold this position and await reinforcements, — Alina ordered, her expression tense.

Private Sarah Nguyen, the squad's medic, knelt beside the communicator, examining it closely. — It's damaged, — she reported, — looks like it was dropped in a struggle.

— We need to find her, and fast, — Alina said, determination etched on her face.

The trio moved deeper into the facility, their senses on high alert. Every shadow seemed to pulse with potential danger, every distant sound a possible threat. As they rounded a corner, they stumbled upon signs of a skirmish—scorch marks on the walls, a few spent energy cells scattered on the ground.

— This is bad, — Devon said, his voice low. — Aria wouldn't go down without a fight.

— Stay sharp, — Alina ordered. — We don't know what we're dealing with yet.

As they pressed on, the sound of muffled voices reached their ears. Alina signaled for silence, and they moved stealthily toward the source. Peering around a corner, they saw a small group of their own soldiers, clearly agitated and confused.

— Sergeant Blake, — Alina called softly, stepping into view. The sergeant turned, relief washing over his face.

— Lieutenant Torres, — Blake said, — thank goodness you're here. We found signs of a struggle but no sign of Shaw or her captors. Also, some of the explosives we planted are missing. They were carefully removed, not detonated.

Alina's eyes widened. — Removed? Who could have done that?

Blake shook his head. — No idea, but whoever they are, they knew exactly what they were doing.

Alina's mind raced. — We need to regroup and form a search party. If Aria is captured and these explosives are missing, there's a connection. She could be in serious danger. Blake, organize a perimeter sweep. Look for anything out of the ordinary.

Blake saluted. — Understood, Lieutenant.

As Blake moved to carry out the orders, Alina turned to her team. — We need to stay focused. Aria's life could depend on it.

— We'll find her, Lieutenant, — Private Nguyen said, her face set with determination. — We won't let her down.

— No, we won't. Let's move.

As the soldiers fanned out, their resolve was clear. They were not just searching for their leader; they were on a mission to restore order and uncover the truth behind Aria's disappearance. The tension in the air was electric, but so was their determination. They would find Aria Shaw, no matter what it took.

Suddenly, a blinding flash of light filled the corridor. The soldiers shielded their eyes, and when the light subsided, a shimmering figure stood before them. Its form was humanoid but ethereal, glowing with an otherworldly radiance.

— What is that? — Devon whispered, his voice trembling.

The being raised a hand, and an invisible force rippled through the air, paralyzing the soldiers where they stood. Alina struggled to move, but her limbs felt like lead.

— Who are you? What do you want? — Alina demanded, her voice barely more than a whisper.

The being's eyes glowed brighter, and a wave of energy surged towards the soldiers, locking their brains in a vise-like grip. Their thoughts slowed, and a sense of overwhelming helplessness washed over them.

In their final moments of consciousness, Alina's mind clung to one thought: Aria. The mysterious team that had removed the explosives, Aria's disappearance, and now this being—they were all connected. But before she could piece it all together, darkness claimed her.
