"Well played". Haze said with a smile.
"You're a stubborn one ain't ya?", The chief guard replied.
Haze shrugged. "I can't be kept down for long".
"We'll see about that", The chief guard replied with a wince. He flexed the mallet in his hands and began to advance on Haze.
Haze watched the other men to see if there was a trap of some sort.
So far, they had not moved a muscle but Haze was aware how these scenarios always played out. The bad guys rarely ever had any morals and never respected fighting codes.
They could be waiting for him to be invested in the fight with the chief guard and then they would sneak up on his back and strike when he was defenseless.
Or they could wait till he was off balance and then strike him.
Haze didn't mind fighting them all, but he preferred to be assured of the situation at all times.
