If he knew what kind of boy Haze was, he would know that Haze never fully dropped his guard.
Even when he was asleep, it wasn't a total relaxation as he was always alert and ready to spring to action.
Truly, as the man had assumed, Haze had become lost in his gloating and he been lured into a sense of false security.

However, Haze was very fast. He could move parts of and the entirety of his body very quickly.
So when he heard the spear coming and he looked back to see it coming, he was able to get out of the way in time.
