Chapter 12 - Bloody battle(2)

Alex's hand, holding Kate's, was slick with sweat as he silently calculated his options. Originally, he had hoped to find a chance to call Mark or Hugh, but the Iron Wolf Gang members weren't giving him that opportunity. He had only two choices: either break through with Kate or hold out until the police arrived. The police's arrival time was uncertain, so it seemed he had no choice but to fight his way out with Kate. Steeling himself, Alex's sharp gaze swept over the Iron Wolf Gang members as he thought, "If you don't value your lives, don't blame me for being ruthless."

An Iron Wolf Gang thug brandished a machete at Alex, who swiftly kicked the thug's wrist. With a crack, the wrist went limp, and the machete flew into the air. Four nearby thugs simultaneously swung their blades at Alex. Letting go of Kate's hand, Alex leapt into the air, caught the falling machete, twisted his body horizontally, and slashed at their necks. Before their blades could fully descend, they felt a chill at their throats, followed by a spray of blood, and they collapsed to the ground. The surrounding thugs, maddened by the sight of blood, charged at Alex with renewed ferocity.

Wielding the machete, Alex cut down each attacker that approached. For every person he felled, another would step forward, but soon, more than thirty members of the Iron Wolf Gang lay defeated. Seeing the unending tide of attackers, Alex let out a roar, his ghostly figure darting around Kate, ensuring no one could harm her. The constant screams of pain and the bodies falling to the ground painted the street red with blood. More than thirty bodies and over a hundred wounded thugs lay strewn about, and Alex's murderous aura intimidated everyone around him. No one dared approach; fear filled their eyes.

Alex, still holding Kate's hand, began to walk slowly towards the street's entrance. With each step he took, the gang members retreated a step. An Iron Wolf Gang leader shouted, "Damn it, I don't believe we can't kill him with so many people. Charge!" At that moment, Alex, still holding Kate, had already carved a bloody path. No one could stop him, and his blade continued to cut down anyone in his way. Feeling his body damp and sticky, Alex couldn't tell if it was his sweat or the blood soaking through his clothes.

Everyone values their own life, and the Iron Wolf Gang members were no exception. Fierce as they were, they weren't willing to die. They stepped aside, clearing a path for Alex.

Kate clung tightly to Alex, her mind numb. As long as her beloved was by her side, she didn't care about life or death. Though the gang members didn't dare attack Alex, they eyed Kate. One thug swung a metal rod at her back, but Alex turned and kicked him away. As he turned, the retreating thugs gritted their teeth and slashed at Kate. She instinctively dodged but was a bit too slow. One blade cut her shoulder. Hearing Kate's muffled groan, Alex's heart sank. Seeing the blood streaming from her shoulder, his eyes turned red. Ignoring the two blades that cut into his back, he embraced Kate, saying softly, "Kate, even if I die, I won't let you get hurt again." He lifted Kate onto his shoulder, supporting her with one hand while continuing to wield his now-blunted machete, making his way toward the street's end.

Seeing Alex wounded, the gang members thought they had an opportunity and surged forward. Carrying Kate, Alex plunged into the crowd, his blunted machete slashing relentlessly. Blood splattered onto his face as he cut down attackers like a grim reaper from hell. After what seemed like an eternity, a blood-soaked Alex emerged at the street's end with Kate. No one dared stop him, and no one pursued him. Turning back, he saw the remaining gang members staring at him in shock. Alex shouted, "What are you staring at? Come at me!"

The remaining gang members dropped their machetes and fled. The street was now devoid of standing figures.

Alex discarded the now-blunt machete and gently lowered Kate from his shoulder. A crowd of onlookers watched them from a distance. Numerous police cars raced toward them, and over a hundred armed officers and SWAT team members surrounded Alex and Kate.

Police Chief Troy pushed through the crowd, his heart sinking at the sight of the blood-soaked Alex. With a trembling voice, he asked, "Alex, are you alright?"

"I'll live," Alex replied coldly. Glaring at the tardy police officers, he struggled to contain his anger and glanced at Troy.

"Why are you just standing there? Go arrest the thugs inside!" Troy barked at the surrounding officers. Inside, he was in turmoil, frequently wiping the cold sweat from his forehead. He wasn't worried about the casualties but about his career. Alex being surrounded and attacked was a significant issue, and any dissatisfaction from Alex could end his career as police chief. Watching the grim-faced Alex, Troy's anxiety grew.

The officers rushed into the usually bustling street, now a scene of carnage. Seeing the bloodshed, several officers bent over and vomited. The street was strewn with severed limbs, wounded groaning on the ground, and bodies bleeding out. Every officer felt a chill down their spine, paralyzing them with fear. "Quick! Notify the hospital for ambulances!" shouted a clear-headed officer.

Countless ambulances sped towards a single direction on the streets of H City.

Alex watched a medical worker bandage Kate's wound and spoke to her with infinite tenderness, "Kate, does it hurt? It's my fault you got hurt."

"Honey, I'm fine. It's just a scratch," Kate replied softly.

Alex then turned to Troy, who stood nearby, and asked, "Can we leave now?"

Troy nodded with a smile, "Yes, yes, Alex. You're the victim. Just complete a statement, and you can go."

After giving his statement, Alex drove away.

A puzzled officer beside Troy asked, "Chief, are we just letting him go like that?"

Troy glanced at the officer and said sternly, "If you don't understand, don't ask. Just do your job."

When Hugh learned that Alex and Kate had been surrounded by the Iron Wolf Gang, he was almost scared to death. He immediately gathered six or seven hundred members of the Reaper gang to storm the Iron Wolf Gang's headquarters, but Alex stopped them with a single phone call.

William leaned back in his chair, holding the phone on his desk with an expressionless face. Over five hundred of his men had been involved, with more than three hundred dead or injured. He couldn't fathom the extent of Alex's prowess. His usual arrogance was replaced by a trace of fear. Suddenly, a subordinate burst into the office, panting heavily, "Boss! It's bad! The police have surrounded our building, and there are many armed police and SWAT officers."

Expecting good news all night, William received one bad news after another. He threw the phone onto the desk and, with trembling hands, lit a cigarette. Before he could put it to his lips, several SWAT officers burst through the door with guns pointed at him. Seeing the muzzles aimed at him, William slumped into his chair, unwilling to accept it, "My brother is the mayor. Who dares to arrest me?"

"Your brother can barely protect himself. He doesn't have time to worry about you," Troy's voice came from outside.

Troy walked in, glanced at the collapsed William, and commanded sternly, "Cuff him and take him away."
