Chapter 6 - The Train

"Von" I subconsciously call out.

As a demon I had no name and was addressed by the moniker 'Von Skianox, Prince of the Shadows'.

"Von, noted." She said.

She looked like she was going to say more but the train whistle cut her off, she threw a piece of paper at me and mouthed,

'Call me'.

It's been three days since then. I decided to garner a comprehension on this world but I don't have a clue where to start.

I tried approaching people but that didn't turn out well so I decided to lurk around for a while, I caught wind of a place where knowledge is stored called a library.

You see this is also one of the perks of demonism. Demons and infact almost all other races except human transmit knowledge through bloodline and one won't need the hassle of studying.

After some time I found out that the library is uptown as well as the church and many other key buildings in the city.

The only noteworthy building in the slums is the abandoned temple of eternal love where I live. It was once the worship center for daemons or demon worshipers in the city but it was raided and all the demoniacs where rounded up and as you can expect burnt alive for heresy.

I noticed that in humans when one doesn't conform with the general norm and belief they are condemned as heretic or anarchical and more often than not killed in a gruesome manner. Demons enforce their will by personal prowess not by majority .

The temple was surprisingly left mostly intact it is spacious and we'll furnished with worship areas living quarters and the likes.

Having confirmed my Destination I set out for the metro but run back in just a few seconds after stepping out. Another one of humanity's tribulations.... the sun.

As someone who has spent my whole life which amounts to at least a couple dozen millennia in the dark, I find it hard to get used to a bright ball of light pricking my face and eyes all day long. I prefer the dark and cold, the sewers would have been ideal home if not for the stench.

I wait till dusk then I go out again and I find my self fascinated by the twilight.

I realized that although this world is full of hardship it also has it's fair share of beauty and elegance, hell has a mostly static theme - dark - it doesn't change unless you're in a terrain with a specific thing, most of the time a being affecting the climate .

I make my way over to the subway this time around armed with a large black cloak that has a hood.

After getting on a train only to wait for the next four consecutive times I realized that the train doesn't have a fixed stop and drops of at programmed stops.

I decided to ask for help locating the library and I approach a person who seems my age or at least my stature.

He is surprisingly amiable and not only him but almost everyone here are, or so I infer as their gazes lack the usual hostility and they aren't as wary and alert as the people downtown. I know from this that I must be close to uptown if not there already.

"Please, I'm new to the city and I would love if you would be so kind as to point me out in the direction of the library." I recite the line I've been rehearsing for a while now. It was the most polite way of request I could come up with and even though I have nothing to be proud of any longer, I still feel my ego take a crushing hit.

How the mighty have fallen, demons and all alike used to bow before me but in a moment of complacency, I find myself so low as to the point of pleading with an inferior creature.

"Oh, I'm actually also heading there myself, we should head there together." He replied.
