Chapter 12 - Shadows

"Von Skianox!!". The voices wailed on and on like harpies who had lost their queen.

The whole place was pitch black but I could feel the shadows billowing in my face like smoke.

'Where the fuck am I?'

Glimmers of light purple and red started flashing in the surrounding but it only heightened the vagueness of the place and further increased the creepiness.

All of a sudden the voices stopped. The ensuing silence was so oppressive that I felt my ear drums ringing. I could feel the tempo of my heartbeat rising as trepidation overwhelmed me.

I heard footsteps, rhythmical like a war-drum but with the intensity of sonic booms. The cataclysmic sound made my heart's pace rise and it hit a crescendo.

"Arghhh!!" Von roared.

It felt as if my heart was about to jump out of my chest and explode.

A silhouette, so vague it was almost indistinct appeared in the midst of the shadows.

"Vonfaelis Noctis Skianox, The Prince of the Shadow, is this the extent to which my shadows have fallen? First to demons now to a fallen demon, a human in all aspects?"

The voice was rife with melancholy and echoed directly in Von's head, sadness so pure it evoked deep-seated emotions of despair and depression in Von, he suddenly felt like taking his own life for no reason.

"Hmmm?, What do we have here?" The voice continued.

Then he suddenly gasped,

"If it is that thing then... then.... this would mean the rise of the shadows!!! What a great opportunity, hahaha!! Good good!!"

The voices ranted on in sudden excitement, his sudden change in tone left the despairing von stumped.

The shadows bellowed once more, rushing towards the silhouette which outstretched a hand made completely out of shadows. The shadows condensed into a bead sized ball of black flames that seemed to be pulsating with pure darkness and absorbing the light around.

'Whoosh!'

The figure flicked his hands and the ball of flames flew and entered Von's left eye.

Von who had just managed to calm down his raging heart was assaulted with another wave of pain so raw that it left him kneeling on the ground screaming.

"Arghhh!"

Black veins began pulsating on his body painting a dreadful picture of horror.

"I'm going to kill you!"

Von managed to get out through clenched teeth but it wasn't over, after the disappearance of the shadows purple and red light surged from every nook and cranny, all rushing into Von's right eye.

He blanked out as his body dropped, slumped like a bag of potatoes.

"Go!, Let the shadows guide you!" the voice spoke out loud.

"Do you think he can utilize this gift?" Another voice asked but only the silhouette was present.

"Every fall is just a prelude to an even greater rise." The silhouette muttered.
