After planting the seed of doubt in Dimitri's mind, everything played out as planned. He hadn't realized it was Roy with Callista. The anger in his eyes, as he placed me on the couch next to Tanya and Eric, before yanking the pair apart. It was taboo. He wasn't allowed to see Eve or his son, and she couldn't have any physical contact with Roy. It worked. Tanya, Eric, and I left during the argument. I couldn't help but have a victorious smirk which Tanya kept trying to hide while we drove off in my new Rolls Royce. This was one hell of a birthday. It worked out just as I planned.
If I'm being honest I became anxious awaiting them to call me. When neither did after two weeks I showed up unannounced to see what destruction had unfolded.
"Fuck you!" Callista hollered as I heard shattering glass.
I opened without invitation to reveal Callista playing target practice at Dimitri.
"You fucking bastard!" she hollered.
"Since we lost our baby we haven't cared for one another!" Dimitri countered, "The lawyers said, you can take half of everything! I don't need you in my life anymore!"
I froze. They hadn't even realized I entered.
"We don't love each other!" Dimitri continued, "We haven't in years! Is twenty-five years and 2 billion dollars later not punishment enough!? I lost spending so much time with my son that he thinks of Zeus as a father!"
"You're the reason I can't have children! You broke my heart and I lost our baby just to find out that you're having a son with that whore-"
"Don't," Dimitri put up a finger and Callista retreated, "Don't you ever speak on Eve again," he warned, "She's innocent in all of this."
He took a deep breath to gather himself before approaching the situation tenderly. He ran his fingers through his hair in defeat, "Don't you think we deserve to be happy? I know you love Roy. You know I love Eve."
They both realized I was standing there. Unbeknownst to me, a silent tear trickled down my cheek. How could I feel bad about something I caused? How maniacal am I?
Callista looked over to me, tears streaming down her face as her makeup followed. She caved and tossed the bottle of wine upon the marble top shattering upon impact, "I'm done with you."
She pulled out a checkbook and scribbled before walking to me. Callista wiped away her tears before tearing the check out and handing it to me, "I want to be sure you're taken care of."
Instinct made me embrace her while giving her a tender-loving. I knew this was our final goodbye.
"Roy is out front waiting for you in his car," I whispered in her ear.
Pulling back, I saw her happy smile before walking out the door. She didn't bother to look back at Dimitri, only me. This was our final goodbye. Even though it came to this, I still appreciate her and all she's done for me. If it weren't for her I wouldn't be here today. Maybe she was looking for someone like me all along. Someone who could come between them so they could both be happy.
I glanced down at the check she made out for me. My eyes widened in shock. One million dollars. I tried to hide my victory while shoving into my new Louis Vuitton clutch. I saw the look of dismay on his face as he ran his fingers through his hair followed by a sense of relief.
"Sorry, you had to see that," he sighed.
I'm not.
"It's okay," I sympathized, "You two deserve to be happy. You know who you love. I do too."
He looked pitiful, "I care about you too."
"I believe you," I lied. Bullshit. I knew better after the party. What I saw with Eve. I'm not a naive little girl. Right?
I wrapped my arms around his neck before pecking him on the lips, "Is this the last time I'm going to see you?"
