Chapter 17 - 17. Unexpected Help

Zion stood glaring at the 6 Earth Claw Mole-rats in front of him while keeping the crying Sarah behind him. His heath was dangerously low and getting lower every second, but he refused to back down.

One of the closer mole-rats seemed to have enough of the staring and ran forward, not even bothering to dig underground to attack, seeing Zions state.

Zion crouched down, ready to lunge at the blurry figure charging at him when suddenly, there was a faint blue light around him; then his vision cleared up, and he felt the wound on his side begin to heal while the air around him smelt like rain.

[[Zion: 200/300]]

[[You are no longer bleeding.]]

He didn't have a chance to question it as now, with his vision clear, he jumped to the side to avoid the attack. The mole-rat was surprised to see the fox that a moment ago could barely stand suddenly move and dodge its attack.

Zion didn't hesitate and lunged at the mole-rat while barking urgently at Sarah. Sarah snapped out of her fear and stood up, wanting to escape towards the house, but her legs were shaking so badly she couldn't move.

One of the other mole-rats targeted her and rushed after her. Zion, spotting it, however, immediately attacked that one, making it focus on him. Now he had two concentrating on him while the other 4 just surrounded them to ensure they couldn't escape.

Zion started slashing and biting whenever they got too close while also making sure the others wouldn't attack Sarah when he wasn't looking.

He heard the soft thump of something falling to the ground and turned to see Sarah had passed out, hitting the ground.

However, in the 1 second, he was distracted; one of the mole-rats actually caught him with their claws, clawing him on his front left leg.

He whined in pain as he backed up, limping slightly due to the injury.

[[Zion: 185/300]]

[[Your mobility is impaired. AGI -16]]

Zion growled softly; however in a second, he spotted a faint blue light among the trees to his left; then, a faint blue glow surrounded him and he felt the wounds start closing with the scent of rain.

[[Zion: 235/300]]

'Someone in the trees is healing me...' He immediately pieced it together. He then focused on the mole-rats again, 'With their healing, it shouldn't take me too long.' He grinned, showing off all his teeth as he pounced at the nearest mole-rat.

------------

It took Zion and the mysterious healer 2 hours to take down the two mole-rats who had attacked him to begin with, but before he could fight more, there was a shout from behind him.

He turned around just in time to see Abraham running towards them as he pulled out his sword and swung it towards the mole-rat, standing to Zions' left side, surprising Zion when a green glow surrounded the blade and lashed out at the mole-rat.

Zion felt the wind around the blade as it cut the beast in half instantly. The other three froze, seeing their ally die quickly, giving Abraham enough time to reach them, and promptly swing at the one who was closest to Sarah's unconscious self.

Again, it was slashed in half without a chance to cry out, and the last two turned towards Abraham before they screeched loudly then dove underground.

Abraham frowned seeing this and was about to put his blade away when Zion barked loudly in warning.

Hearing the bark, Abraham instantly returned to being on guard just as the mole-rats launched from the left and right simultaneously, trying to pincer him.

Abraham's sword glowed green, and he did a wide spin with the blade out, making a circle of green light and slicing both the airborne mole-rats in an instant. Their bodies fell to the ground with wet thumps as he just sheathed his sword.

Zion glanced towards Sarah, sensing their contract was still strong and knowing Abraham would take care of her; he suddenly rushed off towards where the blue light had come from.

"Wait, get back here!" Abraham yelled, seeing Zion run off, but Zion didn't stop and vanished among the trees. He sighed and went back to tending to his daughter.

Zion ran among the trees to the spot where he had seen the light, then paused and sniffed the air. He smelt the use of magic since there was a lingering scent of water around the area.

In one of the books he had been reading, it had explained that water-healing spells would have a residual rain-like scent after being cast.

He looked around, 'Damn it... this would be the perfect time to have some sort of communication ability or spell. Actually... system, can you create a telepathic communication spell?' He had the thought now as he tried to use his nose to find the healer.

[[Searching for hosts request...]]

[[Spell has been found. Mind Talk (B): Allows one to share their thoughts with a target at a maximum distance of 20 meters from the caster for 10 mana. Further away requires more mana. Requires 20+ INT to learn.]]

'That's not bad... learn it.' He said.

[[Learning Mind Talk...]]

[[Spell: Mind Talk learned.]]

Once Zion got the confirmation ,he immediately used the spell ,and he felt his mind connect with someone 15 meters to his northwest.

'"Please wait, I want to thank you for helping us."' He quickly spoke to them in his mind.

"E-Eh?" He heard a small childish surprise yelp from that direction.

He moved quickly to reach that direction but then froze when he saw who it was. In front of him, a small child around Sarah's height stood there with her back to him. However, this girl had long flowing, dark brown hair, and sparkling transparent blue shaded dragonfly-shaped wings coming from her back.

The mysterious healer that helped them... was a fairy.
