Chapter 1 - "Loss of a mother is worse than many things"

My name is Ray Rourke Shigeyoshi. I'm 23 years old, and I was born in Tokyo, Japan. I am son to a Japanese father and to an English mother. Life seemed normal back in those days- normal, but complete. I was a good child for all I knew, doing what every child would do to make their fathers and mothers proud, like you all did, right?

High achievements, perfect remarks, upholding admirable traits but what did I get in return? Abandonment by my English mother . Heh, yeah, fucking mother of the year, right?...

Anyway, it happened on that fateful night while I was a teenage lad and was studying hard for an upcoming exam.

"You! Little shit!" My father roared across my room with a bottle of liquor in his hand.

Startle by his roar, I was taken aback and quickly shifted my attention to him.

"What is it, dad?" I calmly asked him

"Fucking stop that!" He angrily screamed

"Stop what, dad?" I asked him, confused

"That, you little shit!"

He drunkenly pointed out my school papers on my desk

"Stop that! Stop doing your homework! Stop doing your school! Stop doing with all that education bullshit!" He angrily yelled

I furrowed my eyebrows

"Dad, what do you mean?"

My father didn't reply but instead he aggressively took a sip from his liquor bottle

"Dad, what the he-"

Suddenly, a sound of breaking glass cut off my words

"You little shit!" He roared again

"...."

I didn't care to respond anymore because I didn't want to add any more fuel to the raging fire.

Unexpectedly, my father reached into his pocket and pulled out something,

His cellphone.....

"Look at this!" My father angrily said

He threw the phone at me.

When I saw the phone's screen...my heart broke into million pieces.

It was a picture of my mother

A fucking picture of my mother, affectionately hugging another man and what's fucking worse was...she was smiling like she won the lottery of a lifetime, and they were both boarding a plane.

"Da-dad...."

"What's the meaning of this?" I asked my father with a broken heart and a destroyed will.

"That fucking English bitch is leaving us for a man she just met a month ago!" He roared as if he's angry at the world.

"Dad, this is....."

"This is not true."

I tried to deny since I loved my mother more than anything, more than my life itself...

"Fucking boohoo, little shit! Your bitch mother won't be coming back to us anymore!" He angrily retorted

"Stop going to fucking school, it doesn't matter anymore!" My father angrily added

"But, dad-"

But he swiftly interrupted me

"Beat it, you little shit!" My father screamed

My father walked away, leaving me heartbroken and with tears streaming down my face like a waterfall.

I will always remember that night, because that night was a life-changing moment for me.

So, anyway in a short amount of time, I forgot my mother and the exact thing she did. I became an emotionless, hollow person. The former me is buried under this cold, emotionless and hollow me, like a dark mask. Though, in order to move forward, I had to at least fake it sometimes, not just for my sake but for the sake of other people. I studied hard and kept moving forward. I did what I had to do in order to achieve something what I wanted for myself and that was to make my father proud, even though I still resented him a little bit for his violent outburst back on that fateful night. That's all we've ever wanted in life, right? To make our parents proud. It might sound unambitious but it fills your heart a million times everytime you see them smile at you and hear them say that they're so proud of what you've become and what you've earned

So, I achieved my initial goal and that is to make my father proud. The next thing I knew, I was boarding a plane that was destined to reach London, capital of England,

The birthplace of my dearest mother.
