Chapter 2 - perfection (1)

Golf is really a stupid fucking game.

Sure. It seemed like a good idea in theory: the great outdoors, the smell of freshly cut grass, the zen-like peace and quiet. Lovely, all of it.

I don't know my fathers instinct on dragging me to this country club every Saturday, so we could play a game while he talked about business with his company investors.

A part of me knows is because he plans for me to take over his own part of shares in the "empire firm" and hopefully bringing me here to their meeting will give me the insight I need for a smooth transition when it's time. But truthfully this shit is boring. There's only so much I can about investments and numbers, before I want to throw myself in front of one of the moving golf carts that zoomed past this course.

However, the scenery here is always nice. It was a beautiful morning on the golf course, the sun was shining down on the various colors of green, the few animals that lived in the trees has just awakened to the warm sunlight touching their fur, warming them as they woke.

At least they would if they hadn't been scared shitless by the sound of crazed cackling golf tires skidding against the grass, and said grass being ripped from the ground. The cause of this noise and chaotic behaviour? None other than Harry Duke, dressed in a bright red and white gold outfit, including the bright red shorts that went to the lower thighs I always told him not to wear those and like always Harry doesn't listen.

He swerved the golf cart up to me, the tires ripping apart the freshly cut green grass.

"Alex" he greeted winking his big hazel brown eyes at me playfully. "Can you believe they just let you use this things for free?"

"Be careful if you wreck it that's another bill another to my father's memebership" I informed him, tossing my belongings onto his laps before making my way to the passengers seat.

"Speaking of, where is your dad? I thought he'd be on the course with you" Harry asked putting my belongings in the back of the cart.

" He's somewhere discussing business with some investors. It must be really important since he didn't request for my presence"

Harry nodded starting of the golf cart again, before reversing and driving along the small roads of the course. Summer here at lakeside country club was suffocating the heat was unbearable and stifling. I wish I could have spent my summer somewhere else, enjoying my youth doing something that's more of my interest like attending fashion week or traveling to Italy to indulge in endless amount of pastas like I planned on doing; summer was supposed to be about that after all, having fun, mindless things that I would remember for the rest of my life.

But I was stuck here at this stupid country club that could have been bulldozed years ago, it's ugly and outdated, a far cry from its dazzling glory years. Yet it was the only place people like my father and his men could go to without being bombarded by the press.

"Let's go up to the dinning room. I want an Açaí." I told Harry who only nodded his head, before heading to the direction of the dinning room.

As we rode, the hot breeze rustling through the curls of my head. I pulled out my phone and immediately rolled my eyes and sighed at the several unread messages and six missed phone calls. Harry glanced over me, his hazel eyes motioning from me to the phone in my hands, he chuckled to himself, before turning to me with a sly smirk.

"You're going to have to return her calls one day. You ignoring her is just making things worse, you know?"

I scoffed, crossing my arms over my chest "i don't have to do anything I don't want to do" I told him.

Harry rolled his eyes, returning his gaze back to the course trail. "You suck at relationships Alex" he chuckled shaking his head.

For once in his twenty five years of living, Harry was right. I do suck at relationship, most of the being on my part because I never try and I guess that's because I never really craved affection from another person.

Much to my dismay, I still find myself trapped in this 6 months relationship with imogen gates, I like to thank my mother for practically forcing this girl on me inviting her to all our family dinners, parties and gatherings. I knew what she was doing for she has done this with few other girls from elite families, each of them earning the same cold shoulder and always giving up. Imogen was different she was persistent and my mother liked persistent women, and she practically forced me to asked her out.

Don't get me wrong, imogen is a sweet girl, she's smart, kind of funny, and she's not bad in bed, but I'd be lying if I said I wasn't bored of the relationship.

"I hope they have some of that stuffed crab cakes they had last time. Harry clapped his hands together as we made our way to the buffet.

I wasn't really that hungry I just wanted an Açaí before taking a seat at one of the empty tables, Harry joining me soon after with a plate covered with food.

"Hey guess who's back in town." He said cutting up his food with a fork.

I rolled my eyes "Andre Gilbert's. I am already aware. "Even just saying his name left my mouth with a rancid taste. Someone had send me a photo his cousin had posted of the two of them at brunch earlier."

"Why would he wait till when your father is about to retire to come back though? He was gone for like what? Eight years? Couldn't he have spent one more year"

"Isn't it obvious? His dad too goes into retirement and don't forget his dad holds quite a huge percentage of shares in the business, or maybe he was kicked out of business school too" I sighed playing around with the grapes in my bowl "God knows those Gilbert's are nothing but trouble"
