Wasn't she dead like a while ago? She soliloquized.
Mei Ling frantically looked around the room, as she started to panic. The heart beat monitor picked up pace with every deep breath she took.
"Li Na, dear, calm down." The old man said as he rubbed soothing circles on her hands. He stopped doing so when the medical team rushed in and tried to calm her down.
Some nurses were forced to hold her down as another injected a sedative in her veins. Slowly, she became calm as her eyes flattered close and she finally fell back, unconscious.
"Is my granddaughter okay?" The old man, Tang Jun, asked as he looked at his unconscious kin. His heart had also picked up pace due to inner panic. What if she fell into a coma again?
Four bullets inside that small body of hers was no joke. His mind had literally gone blank when he was informed that his granddaughter was a victim of attempted murder, six months ago.
"Don't worry, Master Tang, she is fine. However, there is a 70% possibility that she might be diagnosed with amnesia, since the injury she got on her head when she fell was quite severe. The shock she experienced will likely contribute to this conclusion." The doctor explained.
Tang Jun nodded and the medical team left the room.
Three hours later, Mei Ling opened her eyes and blinked numerous times to adjust to the bright light in the room. Her headache was quite severe as if someone was stepping on it. She sighed when she noticed that she was still in the unfamiliar world. She placed the back of her hand on her head and she contemplated on what to do next.
As she was deep in thought, the door to her room opened slightly and a nurse got in, a clipboard in her hand.
"Oh, Miss Li Na, you're awake. I'm nurse Xi Wang and I'll be tending to you today. How are you feeling?" She asked as she adjusted the bed and helped her to sit upright.
"Li Na?" Mei Ling whispered, confused. That name sounded familiar to her but she could not pinpoint where she had heard it.
"Oh dear." The nurse suddenly said as she pressed the call button and two nurses and doctors entered the room.
"I think our worst fear has come true. She has amnesia. She can't remember her own name." Xi Wang said to a male doctor who stood at the edge of her bed.
He was silent for a moment. "Call Master Tang right away and tell him that his granddaughter is awake." He said to one of the nurses.
Master Tang? Granddaughter? These queries ran in Mei Ling's mind adding to her myriad of unanswered questions.
Her throat felt dry and she signalled for a nurse to hand her water. The nurse poured some into a glass and helped her down it.
"Where am I ?" She weakly asked the doctor who stood near her.
"Umm...You are in First Hospital receiving treatment after an accident that occurred... six months ago."
There was a brief moment of tense silence and she finally spoke again. "Six months? I have been unconscious for six months?"
"Yes. There was an unfortunate incid..."
"What incident?" She interrupted.
"I'm afraid I can't tell you. Your grandfather is th..."
"What incident, doctor?" She pressed.
Uncomfortable with her stare, the doctor adjusted his glasses on the rim of his nose and was about to respond when Tang Jun and his secretary walked in.
"Leave us." Tang Jun ordered as he sat on the bedside chair.
After the medical team left, his secretary, Mo Tang, quietly shut the door and stood outside giving the two some privacy.
"Li Na dear. I heard that you have been diagnosed with amnesia therefore you probably don't know who I am." He said the last words quietly.
"You are my grandfather." She said.
Tang Jun's eyes were filled with hope as he smiled, causing his wrinkles to become more prominent.
"So you remember?"
"Partly." She lied. She didn't know shit. She was in an unfamiliar world, an unfamiliar body and she beared an unfamiliar identity.
"What happened six months ago?" She asked to change the topic.
"To put it frankly, you were shot. Four times." He said carefully. He knew that his granddaughter hated guns and anything attached to it whatsoever but whatever she said next, shocked him to his core.
"By who?" She asked.
He fell silent before answering. "A sniper. We managed to catch him but ever since, he hasn't told us anything no matter what."
"That's because your people have no skills. You could have called me to torture the hell out of him." She blurted all of a sudden, shocking herself too.
"Who are you?" He asked , concerned as he looked at her in shock and a bit of doubt.
Mei Ling could have sworn that he had figured out her real identity but he suddenly laughed, causing her to sigh a breath of relief.
"I didn't know that someone could change this much after being in a coma." He commented. " I remember that you used to hate it when I talked about guns or even the underworld business. You always told me that you wanted to focus on the corporate world and had no interest in my field of work. Tang Luwei will be overjoyed to hear this." He laughed.
Tang Luwei? Who was he? Oh, my cousin. Wait, why did she know him? Were the real Tang Li Na's memories coming back? She soliloquized.
"...Na. Li Na. Are you okay? Does it hurt? I've been calling you for a while but you were holding your head, your eyes shut as if you were in pain. Should I call a doctor?" He asked, concerned.
"No, grandpa, I'm fine." She answered.
"Grandpa? That's new. You usually call me grandfather. But I can't complain though since I've always wanted you to call me grandpa." He gave her a soft smile.
"How about you rest for a while and we will continue with this conversation later." He suggested.
Mei Ling nodded a she laid on the bed and Tang Jun tucked her in.
Maybe being this Tang Li Na girl wouldn't be so bad.
