Chapter 1 - chapter 1

I was dangling with one hand holding me from certain death. I looked down, which was nineteen floors below. I called on for help but I had left my partner to deal with the enemies on the previous level.

"Marx if you had just agreed to my proposal we couldn't be here right now. Let me help you," she requested and drew her hand to save me but I slapped it away as I let go and fell.

(2 months before)

I was in front of the register looking at he clock waiting for my shift to end so that I could finally go home and relax. Out of nowhere a tall man with blonde hair opened the door harshly. He was cladded in a grey suit and had dark shades that hid his glasses. Following him was a girl slightly shorter than me entered. Her hair was golden yellow and her eyes were ruby red. She wore a black crop top and a white skirt with black cross stripes. Her kin looked fair and her clothes brought out her curves just right. Calling her an angel would have been an understatement. She came towards the counter making me snap out of my imagination.

"Are you a bit young to be coming to a place like this (mind you I was 17yrs and working in a pub)" I asked.

"I should be asking you the same question. Aren't you, my age?" she asked as she placed her finger on my exposed chest.

"It depends, so what can I get for you?" I enquired.

She chuckled a bit before continuing, "depends on what?... anyways I will just take a cup of red grape juice."

"Coming right up." I replied as I poured the drink to a cup adding a bit of sugar and closing the content with another cup before shaking them and pouring the drink to a glass.

"What about mine" came from the blonde guy who was standing behind her making me remember his presence.

"Don't worry about him he isn't supposed to drink right now" the girl said.

Suddenly my phone started buzzing indicating my shift was finally over and that I could now leave. I removed my red sleeveless coat that was meant for work and headed towards the staff lounge and placed it in my rack and closed it. When I came out of the room, I saw the girl leaving with her man.

"The money is under the cup" she shouted with a wink before closing the door.

I took the money under and saw a note with it.it read 'the extra amount is a tip for you'. The extra amount was twice as much as the drink she ordered. I was truly astonished but didn't look into it that much.

Under the orange setting sun, I walked home thinking about the high school that I was working so hard to get in. I knew the fees would be a lot that's why I was working in the pub. If my calculations were correct, I am supposed to have at least fees for the first semester of the term. At home, I lied in bed as I was reflecting on the day's events. I then felt something in my pocket. I felt inside and removed the note that she had left. To come to think of it, I have never seen her in these parts of the suburbs. Before I could dwell much on it, I got a call from my boss.

"Son, you have done your work well but its time to let the chick to fly out of the nest" he said.

"What are you saying, I don't understand?" I asked.

"Well, some people said that its apparently illegal for you to work here and tomorrow the inspector is coming to visit us. Am sorry for this news and don't get me wrong, I tried to convince them but they didn't change their mind. I'll have your paycheck ready by tomorrow so you can swing by and take it. Good night" he then ended the call. I held my head in sorrow as I drifted into sleep.
