Jalil heard several knocks outside his office door before it opened. He saw Atty. Vasquez entered the office and immediately sat on the chair across his table.
"You called me, sir?" Vasquez asked. His brows knitted in confusion as he noticed Jalil's sour expression. "Are you okay?"
"I'm not. What the hell is wrong with your friend?!" Jalil complained, totally angry.
Vasquez averted his gaze and cleared his throat. He knew this day would come, but he never expected it to be this early. "Uh. What do you mean, sir?"
"She's getting on my nerves! I hate noise, yet she was blaring the whole house with her music! Plus, I was just trying to communicate with her, but she was literally ignoring me!" Jalil massaged his forehead.
Vasquez fell silent, as he didn't know what to say. He never saw Jalil complain like this, although he was overloaded with work. Even when firing or scolding an employee, he was still calm and collected. Well, he wasn't that close to Jalil, so he wasn't sure how he behaved around his circle. He only knew Jalil inside the workplace and as a respected CEO. This side of him was quite unexpected for Vasquez.
"I'm asking you, Atty. Vasquez," Jalil said in his deep, serious voice.
Vasquez cleared his throat and looked in his direction. "Sorry, sir. Uh... Eliza... She's naturally annoying sometimes. Honestly, that's why she moved and lived alone because sometimes she's untameable and spontaneous. Ah. Also a little complicated. I heard from her brother that they've got a peaceful life after she left."
Jalil's brows furrowed. "Then why did you choose her? I told you to find me a respectful and trustworthy woman. Why did you give me a wild animal?"
Vasquez scratched his head. "Actually, I was looking for a very trustworthy type because I was worried about you. It was impossible to find anyone that would never take advantage of you. That's why I chose her. I can assure you, Eliza was the best choice. We've known each other for 10 years."
"Right, I get your point. She will not take advantage, but she could give me a heart attack!" Jalil leaned into his swivel chair and sighed. "She's starting to stress me out. I don't know if she was doing it on purpose, but... Tsk. Nevermind."
Vasquez stared at Jalil, who was now resting his head while his eyes were closed. It was obvious that he didn't have enough sleep. "Uhm. I'm sorry if Eliza gave you a hard time. But, I can say that she's not that difficult. When you get to know her better, she's actually good to be with. You know, I couldn't tolerate such an attitude either, but, look at us. Our friendship reached a decade."
Jalil was about to say something, but Vasquez's phone rang, which got their attention.
He answered it instantly when he saw Eliza's name displayed on his phone's screen. "Yes?"
Vasquez stood up and looked at his watch while still holding the phone and listening to Eliza.
"How long have you been there?" He asked Eliza, then looked in Jalil's direction and hung up the call after Eliza finished talking.
"It was Eliza, sir," Vasquez informed Jalil. Although their marriage was just a job contract, he was still her husband at the moment, and he respected that. He had the right to know.
Jalil's brows knitted in confusion. "So?"
Vasquez shook his head. "I just thought I should tell you. She was calling me for help."
"Why?" Jalil leaned closer to his table. "What happened?"
"Uh..." Vasquez scratched his temple, hesitating whether to say the truth or just come up with a lie.
"Vasquez?" Jalil asked again.
Vasquez glanced at him, then took a deep sigh. He decided to tell the truth. Jalil would eventually know so; keeping it a secret was useless. "She caught her brother's girlfriend cheating. Now, they're at the police station."
Jalil's eyes widened. "What?!"
"Uhm. I think they had quite a fight or something? I'm not sure." Vasquez looked away as he answered.
Actually, he was 100% sure that they fought. Knowing his best friend's temper when it came to this kind of situation, she would never back down.
"For heaven's sake!" Jalil leaned into his swivel chair and massaged his forehead. After calming down his stress, he sat down properly and looked at Vasquez. "I'll go with you."
Vasquez nodded right away and left the office.
Jalil was left in his office, frustrated. "Why did I end up having a troublemaker wife? Goodness."
