It was around 6 p.m., and Jalil immediately went to the gate when they heard a doorbell. His eyes lit up, and a sweet, wide smile formed on his lips as he saw his grandparents. "You brought a lot."
Jalil picked up the luggage his grandfather was carrying.
"Good evening, Grandma, Grandpa!" Eliza greeted them cheerfully. She then reached for the other bag that the old lady was carrying. "Let me carry that."
They all entered the house, and the old couple started to roam their eyes around the house. "Where's your wedding picture frame?"
Jalil and Eliza were taken aback at the old lady's question. They actually never had one.
"Ah, I ordered something as huge as this wall, grandma. But it didn't arrive yet," Eliza excused, which made Jalil look in her direction with those frustrated eyes. He knew his grandma would look forward to that thing. Now, they have to order that frame for real.
Eliza just cleared her throat and went to the dining table. "Are you hungry? Dinner's ready; we can eat now."
The old couple excitedly went to the table and looked at the hot dishes, which were plated nicely on the table.
"Goodness, these all looked appetizing! You cooked them all, darling?" Jalil's grandma asked. Eliza just nodded with a sweet smile on her lips. She felt delighted at the old couple's reaction. She was so nervous earlier while preparing the food, but she was glad they liked the presentation.
After praying, they all started eating. The old couple was utterly amazed by every bite of their food. Their reaction was quite exaggerated, but Eliza was really happy about it.
"Your mom was right. You're really a good cook!" Jalil's grandmother said, then she shoved a spoonful of rice inside her mouth. For a senior citizen, Jalil's grandmother was so good at eating with her strong dentures.
They continued eating, and they chitchatted for about an hour after. Then, at exactly 11:00 p.m., the old couple went to the next room to rest.
Now, Eliza and Jalil were staring into each other as they fought in their gazes; none of them wanted to sleep on the floor.
"This is my room," Jalil said in a low tone. "You sleep on the floor."
"It's not like I chose to sleep here. You should give me some consideration," Eliza protested, then slumped to the bed and covered herself with the thick blanket. "Your bed is wide enough for us anyway. Why are we fighting over it?"
"I don't like someone lying beside me!" Jalil retorted, pulling Eliza's blanket. "I already gave you the comforter."
"I told you. I'm not sleeping on the floor!" Eliza glared. "I can't believe you're treating your wife like this!"
Jalil panicked as Eliza shouted; he then leaned closer to her and shut her mouth with his palm. Now, they were glaring into each other's eyes.
Jalil just sighed out of frustration. "They will hear you, goodness! Fine! We'll share the bed!"
Eliza smiled in triumph. "Very good." Then she comfortably laid down and covered herself with a blanket.
Jalil also went to the other side of the bed and was about to lie there, but he felt Eliza's hand stop his head from touching the bed. He turned his head to look at her, and he formed a confused look on his face. "What?"
"Won't you turn off the lights?"
Jalil brows were knitted. "No. Why would I?"
Eliza's half-brow was raised. "Because we're going to sleep?"
"I can't sleep if the lights are off," Jalil answered and attempted to lie down, but she was stopped by Eliza again.
"But I can't sleep with them on!"
"That's your problem, not mine," Jalil answered, then he laid flat on his bed.
Eliza slapped his shoulder, which made him look at her in annoyance. "What is your problem?!"
"Turn off the lights."
"No!"
"I'll shout!"
"Try it; I'll kick you out of bed."
"GRANDMA—MHMM!" Eliza's scream was inaudible after Jalil immediately covered her mouth as tight as he could.
"Are you crazy?!" Jalil asked in frustration. "For Christ's sake! Just wear a sleeping eye mask!"
Eliza removed his hand. "It's uncomfortable."
"Ugh!" Jalil just grunted in great irritation. He glared at Eliza, then stood up and flipped the switch in his room, turning it dim and dark. Then he slumped to his bed while grumbling.
Eliza just looked at him, and then a smile formed on her lips. "Thank you."
"Shut up!" Jalil answered with an obvious angry tone, which made Eliza chuckle.
"Good night," Eliza said, but Jalil didn't respond. She stared at him and saw that his eyes were closed. "I said good night."
"Goodness, Eliza! Just sleep, please!" Jalil growled, which made Eliza laugh.
"Okay. Okay. Chill!" Eliza said, then she faced the opposite direction. "Good night."
"Go to sleep!"
"Hahahah. Okay. Okay."
