Chapter 17 - 'Clean up'

"Whoa. You really called me here to clean up." Jeffrey deadpanned as Jalil greeted him at the entrance. Jalil just looked at him without any expression on his face, then left the door open for him to enter.

"Yeah. Nice talking to you too," Jeffrey mumbled as he didn't receive any response from Jalil. He paused as he arrived at the living room, where Eliza's stuff was scattered everywhere.

"Hi!" Eliza greeted him while carrying a box. Jalil also helped carry some huge boxes.

"Hello. Are you moving?" Jeffrey's brows knitted in confusion.

"My grandparents will stay overnight. They shouldn't know we're sleeping in different rooms. Also, there's no extra room for them except for this one," Jalil responded while starting to put the boxes inside his room.

"Ah, I thought I would clean your whole house. So, you just wanted my help to clean up faster?" Jeffrey asked, then he got the shoe rack that Eliza was carrying. "When are they coming?"

"Probably around 5:00 pm. Not sure," Jalil answered from his room.

Jeffrey glanced at the wall clock; it was 8:30 in the morning. "Okay. Where should I put this?"

Eliza looked at him and said, "Just beside the door."

Jeffrey nodded, then put the shoe rack beside the room's door.

They cleaned until 3:00 in the afternoon and took a rest for about 30 minutes in the living room. Eliza was currently cooking something for their late lunch. They were so busy cleaning up that they even skipped their lunch.

Jeffrey's stomach rumbled as he smelled the fried garlic from the kitchen. "I'm really hungry."

Eliza peeked from the kitchen when she heard what Jeffrey said. "This won't take long."

Jeffrey glanced at her and smiled. "It's okay."

Jeffrey stood up and walked towards the kitchen. "What are you cooking?"

"Fried broccoli with fried garlic. Uh. You can eat vegetables, right?" Eliza asked, which made Jeffrey chuckle.

"Yes. Yes. Of course. I'm—"

"I don't." They both looked in Jalil's direction as he spoke. He was leaning against the kitchen's wall while his arms were crossed in front of his chest. His gaze showed coldness as he stared at them.

Jeffrey's brows knitted in confusion. "You don't, what?"

"I don't eat vegetables," Jalil answered with his deep voice, then he glanced at Eliza. "Cook something else for me."

Jeffrey's brows knitted even more when Jalil left after he said that to Eliza. He glanced at Eliza, who was now grumbling while preparing another pan and the ingredients she needed.

"I'll go to the living room," Jeffrey said, to which Eliza responded with a nod. He then went to Jalil and sat beside him. "Bro. You don't eat vegetables? Are you sure?"

Jalil just glanced at him and rested his head on the couch's backrest, closing his eyes.

"We've been together since high school. And I never saw you refuse vegetables. You like them," Jeffrey's right brow raised. "Are you teasing her?"

Jalil sat properly and took a deep sigh before he looked at Jeffrey. "No."

Then he stood up and went straight to his room. Jeffrey was left baffled in the living room.

Jeffrey just shrugged his shoulders, then picked up his phone from his wallet and played his favorite mobile game. "He's being weird again. Tsk."
