Chapter 7 - from flirting to firings

My stomach was growling so loudly I thought my coworkers might hear it! It was already 12 pm, and I hadn't eaten yet. I was starting to think I'd have to survive on office air alone. But then, lunch break arrived, and I headed to the cafeteria.

As I waited in line, I thought about what to eat. Cheeseburger or salad? Let's be real, it was a burger kind of day! I grabbed my food and returned to my seat, enjoying each bite while thinking about my day so far. It had been a whirlwind of paperwork, introductions, and trying not to trip over my own feet.

Just as I was lost in thought, a friendly voice interrupted me. "Hey, mind if I join l you?" I looked up to see a nice-looking guy, and I thought, "Hey, why not?" Out loud, I said, "Sure, please do."

He introduced himself as Jayden, the head of the finance department , and we started chatting. I mentioned it was my first day as the CEO's secretary, and he shared some valuable insights about my new boss. "He's a very handsome, hot guy," Jayden said with a sly grin. "But be warned, his temper is crazy! He hates clumsiness, and he's a private guy, so be on your toes around him." Jayden added, "Just be on his good side, and you'll be fine. But if you're clumsy, you might just find yourself on the receiving end of his wrath!"

We kept talking as we ate, swapping stories and laughs. As we finished our meals, Jayden said, "See you around, Laura. Take care, and don't get too lost in the office!" With a friendly smile, he left, and I thought, "Wow, nice to meet someone like him on my first day! And, oh boy, I need to be extra careful around the boss!"

As I entered the elevator, I punched in my floor number and headed to my corner, eager to continue working. Though I'd finished my tasks, I wanted to stay busy. Lost in thought, I was startled by a familiar voice. "Hey," Jasmine said, beaming, and I responded with a smile. "You're getting comfortable quickly," she teased, and I grinned, acknowledging my workaholic tendencies.

Jasmine informed me that the boss was in his office, and my mind skipped a beat. She instructed me to take him his coffee, which I thought was unusual for noon. "The boss does," she said with a sly smile. I made the coffee and knocked on the door. "Come in," a velvety voice replied, sending shivers down my spine.

As I entered, I was taken aback by the spacious and beautiful office with its masculine vibe. The chair faced away, and I assumed the boss was on a call. After three minutes, I cursed under my breath, "Seriously, how long can one phone call take?" Just then, he ended the call and turned to face me, his eyes locking onto mine with shock written on his face.

The coffee mug slipped from my hands, and I shouted, "What the hell are you doing here?!" It was Mr. Stranger, the man I had a one-night stand with! No way! He was my boss! I couldn't believe my luck. Or lack thereof.

"Well, well, well... looks like we have a lot of catching up to do, Miss Laura," he said with a sly grin, his eyes sparkling with amusement. "And by catching up, I mean you're going to be my new secretary."

I stood there, frozen, as he walked towards me. "You know, I never thought I'd see you again, especially not in a skirt and blouse," he chuckled, his eyes gleaming with mischief. "But I must say, you look even more stunning in the morning light."

I finally found my voice, "This is insane! You can't be my boss!" I exclaimed, trying to process the absurdity of the situation.

"Oh, but I can, Miss Laura. And I will. After all, I have to keep an eye on my new secretary... and make sure she's meeting her deadlines," he said, his tone turning serious. "I expect great things from you, Laura. Don't disappoint me."

I shook my head, "You're something else, Mr. Jeremiah. But please, don't fire me! I need this job so badly, and I'll do anything to keep it," I pleaded, my voice trembling.

He raised an eyebrow, "Fire you? Why would I do that, Miss Laura? You're the most interesting thing that's happened to me in a long time," he said, his eyes glinting with amusement. "Besides, I have a feeling you'll make my life very... interesting."

As he spoke, he stepped closer to me, his eyes locked on mine, and I could feel the tension between us building. I tried to step back, but my legs were frozen in place.

"You know, Laura, I think we need to discuss your job description... in private," he said, his voice low and husky, sending shivers down my spine.

I swallowed hard, trying to find my voice, but it was barely a whisper, "I-I don't think that's necessary, Mr. Jeremiah."

He smiled, his eyes gleaming with mischief, "Oh, but I think it's very necessary, Miss Laura. Very necessary indeed."

And with that, he reached out and brushed a strand of hair behind my ear, his fingers grazing my skin, sending sparks flying through my body. I felt my face flush, and my heart race with excitement.

Just as the tension between us was palpable, a knock at the door interrupted the moment. I was thankful for the timely interruption, and Mr. Jeremiah returned to his seat, his eyes never leaving mine. "Come in," he said, his deep voice commanding.

The janitor entered, and without a word, he efficiently cleaned up the spilled coffee and exited, leaving me alone once more with my boss - Mr. Jeremiah.

"You spilled my coffee," he said, his eyes darkening as he gazed at me. "And you left me at the hotel, cursing me before you departed. That's not what a good girl does," he added, his voice laced with mischief.

"I'm sorry," I said, looking down, my cheeks flushing.

"Look up when I talk to you, Princess," he commanded in a velvety voice that sent my adrenaline racing. I met his gaze, my heart pounding.

"Go get me another coffee, Miss Laura, and bring in the files you worked on. Cancel all my meetings for today, and that will be all for now," he instructed, his eyes never leaving mine.

I rose from my seat, still in shock, and turned to leave. "Umm, Miss Laura," he called out, his voice dripping with amusement. "I expect you to address me with 'sir' when I finish talking to you."

"Yes, sir," I replied through gritted teeth.

"I can't hear you, Miss," he said, his eyes glinting with mischief.

"Okay, sir," I replied, my frustration growing.

With that, I exited his office, shutting the door behind me, my heart still racing from the encounter.

I left the office still reeling in shock. Could this day get any more absurd? Mr. Jeremiah, the CEO of the Donovan Group of Companies, owned the hotel where our one-night stand took place. I couldn't believe I had been rude to a billionaire! My thoughts were interrupted by Jasmine, who asked, "You good?" I forced a smile, and she seemed to notice my distress but mercifully didn't push the issue.

After she left for the CEO's office, I threw myself into work, arranging the files and canceling his meetings - a task that took a grueling hour and a half. Exhausted, I headed to the coffee machine to prepare his coffee. With the files and coffee in hand, I knocked on his door. "Come in," he said, his deep voice sending shivers down my spine.

I entered, dropped the files on his desk, and accidentally dropped the coffee too. He gazed at me with a seductive intensity, taking in my appearance from head to toe. I noticed Jasmine on the sofa, earbuds in, and wondered why she was so comfortable in the CEO's office. Shrugging it off, I asked, "Anything else I can do, sir?"

His eyes remained fixed on me, and he said, "No, you can go." But then, with a mischievous glint, he added, "Hold up. Reschedule all my meetings for the same time tomorrow." I nodded, "Yes, sir," and turned to leave, still feeling his gaze on me as I exited the office.
