Chapter 8 - A game of cat and mouse

Jeremiah's pov

I couldn't get the brown-haired girl out of my mind - the feisty, vibrant one who had left me at the hotel, rushing off to God knows where. I was determined to find her; I just couldn't shake her off. "Laura, I will find you, I promise," I muttered to myself, my mind racing with thoughts of her.

The moving cars jolted me out of my reverie, and I turned on the engine, driving away from the hotel. As I arrived at Beverly Crest, my luxurious abode, my gatekeeper greeted me with a warm smile. I parked my car, entered my house, and was welcomed by my butler. "Good morning, sir. Good morning," I replied, noticing my sister Jasmine was already there, having arrived the previous day.

"What is she doing here, God?" I thought to myself, knowing she was always a handful. I nodded and headed upstairs, where I freshened up and prepared for breakfast. As I sat down in the dining area, Jasmine exclaimed, "Jeremiah, your favorite person in the world is here!" in her usual bubbly tone.

"Why are you here, Jasmine?" I asked, raising an eyebrow. She pouted, and I rolled my eyes, amused. "I am happy to see you, come give me a hug." We embraced, and I wondered if she was 21 or still 6 years old at heart.

"Now, Jass, why are you here, brother?" I asked, sighing. She wanted a Birkin bag, and I had just gotten her an expensive gift. I teased her about being spoilt, and she pouted more. I raised my hands in surrender, agreeing to her demand on one condition - she had to brief my new secretary that day, and I would get the bag for her.

We finished eating, and I headed to my bedroom to work on some office tasks. Laura was still on my mind, and I made a mental note to ask Christopher about her later, as I was sure he had hooked up with her friend Layla. I finished my work around 12 pm and prepared to head to the office, where I had meetings to attend to. As I went downstairs, my butler announced that Jasmine had already left for the office, and I smiled, relieved that she was taking her job seriously.

I drove to the office, greeted by numerous "good morning, sir"s from my employees, which I replied to with a smile. I took my private elevator to my floor, chuckling to myself as I couldn't find my new secretary at her desk. I assumed she was out getting my coffee and made my way to my office, thinking, "I'm too lazy to do anything today, but I hope my coffee is stronger than my mood."

As I sat down, preparing for today's meeting, I called Christopher. "Hi, man! Last night was amazing," he said, still gushing about Layla. I interrupted him, "Can you please shut up? I need a favor. Get me Laura's number from Layla, but don't make it obvious, or I'll have to fire you... again." He agreed, but it would take a few days. As we ended the call, I heard a knock at the door. "Come in," I said, not even turning around.

As I swiveled my chair around, my eyes widened in shock. Laura, the same brown-haired girl from the hotel, was standing in front of me, looking even more stunning than I remembered. My jaw dropped, and I thought, "Well, well, well... looks like the universe has a sense of humor!"

The glass mug in her hand shattered on the floor, and we both stood there, frozen in shock. I finally found my voice, "Well, well, well... looks like we have a lot of catching up to do, Miss Laura." I said with a sly grin, my eyes sparkling with amusement. "And by catching up, I mean you're going to be my new secretary.

She finally found her voice, "This is insane! You can't be my boss!" I retorted, "Oh, but I can, Miss Laura. And I will. After all, I have to keep an eye on my new secretary... and make sure she's meeting her deadlines." My tone turned serious, "I expect great things from you, Laura. Don't disappoint me."

She shook her head, "You're something else, Mr. Jeremiah. But please, don't fire me! I need this job desperately, and I'll do anything to keep it," she pleaded, her voice trembling.

Fire her? Why would I? I've been searching for ways to find her, and she thinks I'll fire her? I raised an eyebrow, "Fire you? Why would I do that, Miss Laura? You're the most intriguing thing that's happened to me in a long time," I said, my eyes glinting with amusement. "Besides, I have a feeling you'll make my life very... interesting." I spoke, stepping closer to her, my eyes locked on hers, and I could feel the tension between us building. She tried to step back, but I think her legs were frozen in place. "You know, Laura, I think we need to discuss your job description... in private," I said, my voice low and husky, trying to stir something in her. I can't get enough of this brown-haired beauty, I thought to myself.

I swallowed hard, trying to find my voice, but it was barely a whisper, "I-I don't think that's necessary, Mr. Jeremiah." She said. I smiled, my eyes gleaming with mischief, "Oh, but I think it's very necessary, Miss Laura. Very necessary indeed." And with that, I reached out and brushed a strand of hair behind her ear, my fingers grazing her skin. Just as the tension between us was palpable, a knock at the door interrupted the moment. And I returned to my seat, slightly irritated that someone had ruined my special moment with my secretary, who would never stop amusing me.

"Come in," I said, a bit irritated. The janitor entered and efficiently cleaned up the spilled coffee. He left, and we were left alone. "You spilled my coffee," I said, my eyes darkening as I gazed at the girl I couldn't get out of my head. "You left me at the hotel, cursing me before you departed. That's not what a good girl does," I told her, my voice laced with mischief.

"I'm sorry," she said, looking down, her cheeks flushing. "Look up when I talk to you, Princess," I commanded. She's looking down, and I don't like it; I want to see her face flushed.

"Go get me another coffee, Miss Laura, and bring in the files you worked on. Cancel all my meetings for today, and that will be all for now," I instructed, my eyes never leaving hers.

She turned to leave, and I called her to taunt her a little bit; this could be fun. "Umm, Miss Laura," I called out, "I expect you to address me with 'sir' when I finish talking to you." "Yes, sir," she replied through gritted teeth, or so I thought. I was enjoying this.

"I can't hear you, Miss," I said, taunting her more; this would be fun. I said, my eyes still maintaining a serious look. "Okay, sir," she replied, and I could feel her frustration growing. With that, she exited the office, shutting the door behind her.

I sat down, thinking about how meeting her as my secretary was the biggest coincidence ever. She stirs up something in me, and I like it. I was still lost in thought about her when Jasmine came in and I briefed her on what had happened, starting from the time I followed Christopher to the mall until we met at the club, and how she turned out to be my secretary. "Brooo, this is a miracle!" Jasmine exclaimed. "You like her, don't you?" she asked, playfully hitting me. "Yes, you do! You do! You dodo!" she giggled like a baby. "No, I don't," I replied with a serious voice, trying to hide my true feelings. "I just find her amusing."

I heard a knock at the door and signaled Jasmine to go sit on the couch and pretend to be on her phone, so she wouldn't arouse any suspicions. Laura came in, looking beautiful as usual. She entered, dropped the files on my desk, and accidentally dropped the coffee too. I hate clumsiness, but I can deal with hers. I gazed at her with a seductive intensity, taking in her appearance from head to toe. "Anything else I can do, sir?" she asked. I fixed my eyes on her. "No, you can go." But then I called her back, "Hold up. Reschedule all my meetings for the same time tomorrow." And she nodded, "Yes, sir," before turning to leave. I stared at her beautiful figure leaving the office, feeling a sense of longing that I couldn't ignore.
