My eyes wandered over the Tree of Life's intricate bark and twisted branches. At its roots, I noticed Akai's name glowing golden, along with several others. I turned to Drex, sensing his mind racing. I wasn't sure how I could hear his thoughts, but it was a useful ability.
"Why are some names glowing?" I asked, studying his face. His shaggy hair was swept behind his ears, and his golden eyes searched the names etched into the tree.
"I believe they are the names of your ancestors who carried the demigod's power," he explained, his eyes tracing the glowing names.
"So not everyone gets them?" I asked, my gaze shifting to my mother's name. Had she possessed some kind of magic that I had never known? I recalled countless times when she had known things or anticipated events she couldn't have possibly known otherwise. I had always chalked it up to luck, but perhaps it was something different entirely. I felt a mix of awe and fear.
