His golden eyes were fixed on me, unwavering in their intensity, but I could see the fear lurking beneath them—the fear that he might lose me or the child. He had already summoned Helana, his voice tight with urgency as he commanded her to find a doctor. He wouldn't leave me—not with the Serpent's threat hanging over us like a dark cloud. The idea of being separated from me now, of leaving me vulnerable, was unimaginable for him.
