Seeing Wren collapse on the cold stone floor made my blood turn cold. Fear magnified as she emptied her stomach onto the floor. I rushed to her side, lifting her trembling form into my arms, her weight barely registering as my panic took over. Her eyes fluttered open and closed, a fragile, flickering light in the shadow of my dread.
I stripped her soiled clothes with shaking hands, covering her with a blanket, trying to wrap her in warmth and safety. "Helana!" I screamed, my voice a raw mixture of fear and desperation. The sound echoed off the stone walls, amplifying my helplessness.
It was only a moment before she appeared, but it felt like an eternity. "My lord?" she said, bowing her head. Her composed demeanor was a stark contrast to my turmoil.
