Chapter 11 - Chapter 12: Be the accompanist

A few days passed by just like that and it is now Friday. Our adviser held a meeting in her class to discuss our future schedules.

"Class, we are scheduled to have our Jesus Day Mass at 6:30 in the morning every Monday and your attendance is a must. Another thing, you will have your Acquaintance Program wherein you will introduce yourselves in front of all your seniors and your seniors will prepare a presentation for you. As such, I would need all of you to write your own introductions in a piece of paper and I will check it after you have passed your paper. In the afternoon, I will borrow the last class to help you practice some Religious songs that we will sing in our Jesus day mass next Monday. "

We all answered, "Yes ma'am!"

And so I have written my piece of introduction, it was very simple for me to write it. I passed it to the teacher and there was no problem she could fault in it so I was finished.

When all of the others are about done, the teacher suddenly turned to me and asked,"Carmela, you know how to play the piano ,right?"

So I answered, "Yes ma'am."

"Good, you will play as the accompanist in our singing the mass songs. We will first practice the song in our class and after we have mastered, we will then practice it with the accompaniment."

"Okay ma'am," I answered. I was surprised the teacher asked but then I think one of the church servers might have said something about me knowing how to play the piano or they might have seen me a few times when I attended the Sunday mass and played the piano.

It was of no problem to me since I was used to playing the piano and being the accompanist in masses. My classmates from primary may know if they attended the few times I became the accompanist in the masses and the others might be surprised about it but i don't really care if they know or not.

After a few days of being with my classmates, there are some I can talk to. They are usually my classmates who are from the same town as me and had been is speaking terms with. Afterall, it's hard to avoid all of them or I might be called a snob or worst of all, I might get excluded and that would be bad if my family knew.

In our class, when the teacher was not there, sometimes we talk to pass the time since I can't always be reading a book. It would be bad for my eyes, afterall, been there done that in my past life. We will talk about some random things just to keep the conversation going. There are also times when I got lost in the conversations we had that I didn't notice that we almost formed a circle and when I look at my other classmates, they were quiet but some girls were glaring at me for getting all the attention of the boys. I think they only see the boys and can't see that I also have girls who I talk too, although they were too few. And that becomes the routine every time we wait for the next class.

Then came the last class were we are supposed to practice singing religious songs. Our class adviser soon came bringing along a projector and her laptop. They set it up until a screen can be projector in the blackboard. Then we started the process of repeating and polishing our singing of the mass songs. Later after finishing the practice, we again cleaned our areas before going home. That same routine was repeated day after day until we are able to sing the songs perfectly and be able to respond in the priests' words. And then practiced to sing with accompaniment that made me shine again.

It was now Monday and I woke up really early since the Jesus Day Mass is to be done today. This time, I wore clothes more appropriate for mass. I wore a sleeveless plaid A-line dress over a white long sleeved pleated shirt since it was cold in the morning, and I just let my hair loose naturally while having a beret hat for accessories and my favorite white shoes. I got my bag and went on for the walk to school. I arrived just a 10 minutes before the mass starts and I see that more than half of us are already present. Because the church is closed off while having a wide space, it echoes when I walk as such, all of the people sitting in the pews looked back and saw me walking. When I reached where they were, I first went straight to our class adviser then went to where the piano was placed. I then begun to play some songs to warm up my hands and set the piano.

A random first year's POV

It was very quiet while we were waiting for my other classmates to arrive and waiting for the mass to start. It was so eeriely quiet because we do not dare to talk while the teacher was present because it can be clearly heard when you speak. And as much we'd like to talk, we'd rather stay quiet but it was interrupted by the sound of someone walking so we all looked back because we are all curious to who was coming, if it was a classmate then we hope it is finally Carmela because she is our accompanist but if it wasn't but the priest then our classmates and especially Carmela would be reprimanded for being late. Well too bad for her, that's what she gets for being late.

But upon looking back, even if I hate how she always gets all the attention, I too am amazed by her amazing fashion sense. The way she dresses is just so pleasing to the eye and far different from all of us that I can't help but really applaud her for always staying stylish, beautiful, and confident. Her allure is just so off the charts that even as a girl, I am mesmerized by her, no wonder all the boys fell to her charms because I, too, as a girl is definitely charmed.
