Chereads / Who Will Fall First? / Chapter 12 - 12

Chapter 12 - 12

Somehow, I ended up with Connor, and some girl named Nerissa, who had two large, green and yellow wings coming out of her back, which were said to glow in the dark. She also had pointy ears, and colorful flowers tied into her long, blonde hair. Her eyes were a striking, sunlight color, and she wore a brown, sleeveless top that was paired with a forest green undershirt made to look like leaves that grew longer as they cascaded from left to right. Her tights were a dark, olive color that faded into black, and had knee-high boots that looked like she'd wrapped bandages around her legs. She also wore black gloves with a golden X painted onto them. "Now, class, here's how this works: I'll assign you all to a certain area, and there will be five dummies you'll have to rescue. Once your team rescues all five, you bring them back here, and whoever came up with the best rescue plans and had the best teamwork wins. Got it?" Everyone nodded. "Right. Shelby, Connor, Nerissa, you'll be rescuing your dummies from the Earthquake area. Elizabeth's team, you'll be at Sinking Ship. Nathan's team, Forest Fire. Oh, and don't forget-" She looked up, and cast everyone a look. "Treat the dummies like real people." "Yes, ma'am!"

Minutes later, everyone was at their assigned rescue sight, and I was looking around in the rubble, making sure no one had gotten stuck under the large pieces of concrete. "So far, East is clear." I reported, tapping the ear piece in my mask. "Good. Keep looking just to make sure. Since the West is clear, I'll check the North. Once you and Nerissa are sure no one's outside, go into the main building and search. Don't wait for me to catch up." Connor answered. Honestly, he wasn't too bad to work with. "Right." I told him, and Nerissa just said, "Thanks." I searched-and found a dummy stuck in between two pieces that looked like they could collapse at any moment. "I found one, and she's stuck between two concrete pieces that have made a fort, and look like they'll fall at any minute." "Can you handle it, or do you need some help?" Nerissa asked, actually sounding concerned. I took a minute to answer, picturing how it would go if I worked on my own, and how it would go if I had some help. "I'll need someone to hold the fort together so it doesn't collapse while I grab her." "On my way!" Nerissa told me, and a minute later, she was right beside me. She assessed the situation. "I'll use some vines and roots to keep them from collasping." Then, she summoned some thick tree roots, and vines, willed them to wrap around the pieces of concrete, and hold them there. "Thanks." I ran in, and slid down the small wall, then grabbed onto the dummy. "Don't worry, your safe with me, ok? There's nothing to fear now. I'm here to help you." Of course, the dummy didn't talk back, but I tied it to my back with my long scarf, and started to scale up the wall. "Wait-whats going on-?" Nerissa said over the intercom, but a loud explosions sounded, and shaked the wall so much, I fell off, and felt a sharp pain in my ankle. I touched the ear piece. "Nerissa?" No response. "Connor?" Nothing. "Anyone? Is anyone at all there?" Then, I heard some grunts. Yells. Screams. More explosions. And I knew what was happening. "Someone's infiltrated our school!"
