After returning home, Xiao Mei went to her room.
She didn't have much chat with Cheng Wei in the car because the serenity between them was extremely comfortable. It wasn't like she didn't want to talk to him. On the contrary, she wanted to talk to him more than before now. However, she didn't want to break her character and become chatty all of a sudden.
She received a text from Zhang Yulan that Wang Lin called her but Zhang Yulan didn't pick up his call and blocked him from every social media site.
'I hope he doesn't create trouble for Yuyu...' Xiao Mei sighed as she rested her head against the wall behind her head and allowed her muscles to relax in the warm bathtub.
She needs to do something about Wang Lin.

Around eight-thirty Xiao Mei descended the stairs and approached the dining table.
She was wearing a light blue pajama set with several small panda designs on it.
Cheng Wei was already seated and was waiting for her.
Xiao Mei took the seat across from him as the maids finally began to place the food.
Xiao Mei didn't take any food on her plate but just the vegetable soup.
The maids have already gone back and left the two alone.
The dinner was going in silence as Cheng Wei sliced the steamed fish and ate without a single noise.
Even though it seemed he was too focused on his food to even notice the world around him, Cheng Wei had been watching Xiao Mei ever since the moment she walked in.
Her slow movements. Her slightly damp hair. The way she thanked the servants with a pretty smile. Her plump lips, sipping on the soup...
"Are you not feeling well?" Whether it was because he was genuinely worried for Xiao Mei or Cheng Wei wanted to distract himself, he asked in a slight rush.
Xiao Mei raised her brows in surprise before responding, "Yes...why? Do I look sick?"
Xiao Mei hasn't applied much makeup after taking the bath and given her original pale complexion it might be that Cheng Wei thought that she was sick.
She summarised it like that. However, Cheng Wei's following words made her blink in surprise.
"You are only having soup for dinner."
....alright that was a little insulting.
"Mr. Cheng, although I eat a lot usually...it doesn't mean I don't have any care toward my health."
Leaning back on her chair she uttered in a very thin voice, "...not to talk about my sudden weight gain."
Cheng Wei wanted to say something about that...however, he knew it would make her upset.
The dinner went on peacefully after that.

Once done, Cheng Wei was about to get up and leave when suddenly Xiao Mei called out,
"Mr. Cheng, do you have any urgent work to handle?"
Cheng Wei barely allowed his surprise from letting to show on his face as he responded, "Nothing urgent."
" Then...can you accompany me for a walk? It will help us digest the food as well. "
But you haven't eaten anything—what he would have said if the person hadn't been Xiao Mei.
Regardless, this was the first time Xiao Mei invited him to something. Another first time which he was experiencing today.
"Alright, let's go."
Xiao Mei smiled at that. She knew he would agree however, the way he seemed so stiff anyone would think that he was forcing himself here.
However, Xiao Mei knew that he felt troubled to express his real emotions and tried to keep his reaction under control to not creep her out.
The place where they headed to was the front lawn of the mansion which was big enough to play soccer with a dozen people easily.
There were flowerbeds on either side of the central path that led to the entrance of the mansion. A small fountain in the middle of the path and a beautiful golden dragon built on top of it.
Xiao Mei was walking slowly and Cheng Wei matched her pace and walked beside her.
The distance between them could easily adjust another person in between...this much distance was unnatural for even acquaintances to have. And here...these two were married.
Xiao Mei didn't try to close the gap, and no, this wasn't just about the physical distance that they had now. If she suddenly tried to force her way into his life there was a chance Cheng Wei might become doubtful of her and might as well start disliking her.
The reason why she called him out was,
"Mr. Cheng, I went to meet my ex today. Did you know about it?"
Xiao Mei studied his expression as she said those words.
Cheng Wei...was quite good at hiding his inner thoughts. Not even his feet halted nor did his facial expression shift.
Quite admirable.
"...I knew."
"...and yet you didn't ask me anything about it? Don't you consider me your wife?"
This time, he reacted. His feet came to a halt and so did Xiao Mei's.
They turned to look at each other and Xiao Mei, for the first time, saw him slightly anxious.
"It's not that...I do consider you my wife. I just didn't want to restrict you and make our relationship worse."
Xiao Mei was not surprised to hear such a response from Cheng Wei. This person just wants to see his wife happy, even though he isn't the one making her.
"...didn't you feel betrayed? That...just a day after I declared to have a new start with you, I went to meet my ex? Didn't you feel frustrated...or angry?"
Xiao Mei couldn't fathom how tall Cheng Wei's tolerance was. Even in her past life, she couldn't be as good as Cheng Wei when it came to loving someone.
The person Xiao Mei was, in her past life, would have immediately reached out to his partner if he had found out about them meeting their ex. And possibly Xiao Mei's past self would have an argument with them about this whole thing in the end.
...Yet, here this man was standing like there was nothing to be concerned about and that he was fine with everything.
At the precise moment, when her thoughts were weighing over her consciousness and Cheng Wei was finding it difficult to respond to her, Xiao Mei asked something that she wouldn't have, in her right mind,
"....do you even like me?"
Cheng Wei's eyes parted a little wide as he heard her murmuring that question with a downcast look and her balled fist trembling.
"Xi-"
"I am going back. Good night."
Under Cheng Wei's worried gaze, Xiao Mei walked back to the mansion.
