Chapter 1 - Chapter 1 (Origin)

Why are we even here? Who was I before? Will I even remember anything at all after this? These are the questions that keep going through my head!

The darkness, silence, emptiness of this doesn't feel right. Where are we? At least I'm not alone in all this shit. Fuck this silence it's deafening, I'd rather listen to anything else than silence.

I tried to Talk or scream but it feels like something's caught in my throat. Tears start to fall from my eyes, I feel like I'm losing something or is it someone for the life of me I can't remember who it is.

This whole fuckin thing feels like a sick joke or prank! Only thing I remember is only consenting to a strange voice then it all went blank…

****|Flashback|****

It was just an ordinary day of us taking care of our mother's restaurant, (It hasn't fully paid off yet.) We've been working tirelessly to try to pay it off. We are renting a small apartment upstairs.

Her mother was the light of our life. She was so gentle and caring, but our father was quite the opposite. I know it's not proper, but we are to use our money that she so painfully saved up for us until now.

I just hope our mom doesn't get mad at us. My brother has been giving all kinds of charities for things like shorts for summer, Warm clothes for the winter.

Although I don't even know if that's true anymore. Everything feels so monotonous without her, I remember my first father used to abuse my mother all the time.

After going to court, the jury sent my father to prison for 7 ½ months. My mother stayed in the hospital for 2 weeks trying to recover from all the abuse he had given her.

So she left toward her grandfather's house hoping that he would shelter her even if it was just for a little while. He was nice, but very traditional. He's been renting a two bedroom apartment on the second floor for a week.

It was quite expensive. Mother got it for our 6th birthday, we're happy since.

Then he just up and left one day and that was the day our 6th birthday ended a day after. Our mother was slightly surprised, but we were too young to understand the full implications of what was really going on.

Then our mother finally married and things started to change after 4 months. On a Thursday when she got two mysterious notes the most horrible thing was they're both in her name.

That day forward things didn't get better, it even only got worse for the three of us.

Finally after taking odd jobs my mother was able to get a small diner. It was small and quaint but it felt like home. She taught us how to cook and how to follow the directions of each page in the recipe book. We try to make her life a little easier by helping around the diner.

My brother knits to get from depression, but it only lasts for a little while. It reminds him of the memories we both share closely with our mother. We both keep using what we have to keep us afloat so it doesn't last very long.

Most of the time we would imagine going on adventures with mother through all the stories we read. I think it would be fun if we were able to do it together? Hmm…

My brother has made plushies of our favorite anime characters and kept them in our treasure room. That drunk and abusive bastard number two spent a huge part of the money that was supposed to take care of the diner.

Now we can't even take care of ourselves but at least we're together. When we turned we're at least 15 ½ now, our mother always told us keep doing our studying at high School. We tried asking her if we could work around the diner. She said that children need to study to reach higher heights.

The decision was…

We both dive into our studies like mother wanted, Later on that month we would regret it. Months passed right when my school year was about to end. We both got a bad feeling, it started to rain right when we got outside of school. We both looked at each other and our then started smartphone's started to ring a cool anime tune.

When we picked up the phone we heard someone say our mother had an accident at the diner. We both froze in shock. Both of us were sopping wet standing there in the rain. My brother put away our smartphone in his cargo shorts.

My brother and I bit our lips so hard blood drizzled down our chin onto the new clothes we bought. Why does this happen to us? All we wanted was to be happy with her mother. Is this really a hex?

We could only curse our luck for not being there sooner. Whoever left us with this profanity is going to pay for it!

Thank goodness it's in a waterproof bag. We ran to the hospital without a second thought. We ran past the female doctor who was taking care of our mother, but when we saw our mother it was as if time froze. Just like a car crash we couldn't look away from the blood dripping down her face. All life drained from our eyes from that point on we knew it was going to be difficult. She looks like she hit her head on something though we're not sure what…

We turned back to the Doctor after trying to process what happened. We finally asked what happened to her and the doctor shook her head explaining the situation. According to the doctor our mother was taking orders from customers, while cooking at the same time. She accidentally slipped on the wet floor fracturing a large part of her head in the process.

My brother and I… we didn't know what to do at the time. We had some money but it surely wasn't enough to pay a hospital bill for this kind of surgery.

To ask our family for help… but we were stunned that no one had the guts to help us out of this nasty situation.

Why? When they needed the necessary help our mother was there? Even our own so-called family didn't even want to help us…

Burning resentment towards our family started to rise, but we had to endure it for our mother. She is far too kind for our family and she's much more important. Then having a fight with a family of imbeciles.

Another year ½ passed well and we were working off the hospital bills little by little. We have been going to school at the same time we have been checking on our mother every now and then. The bills were astronomically high for such a delicate procedure.

We went into the hospital today to check up on our mother. Next week was also the day for the surgery. Of course we were both nervous of how it was going to go though we knew our mother was in good hands.

There was a huge group of doctors, and nurses on standby for the moment. We were sitting right next to mother's bed, I think back to when she first moment woke up there were times where she didn't remember us or didn't even remember who she was. All we could do was squeeze our fists, we nearly cried out of frustration. That was the moment I knew things were going to be very difficult.

We have been jogging to the hospital. Besides, our home is only 12 minutes away. We entered the hospital to check up on our mothers surgery today, and suddenly we heard shouting.

What's going on?

When we got closer to our mother's hospital room. This can't be happening!

Please don't…

Both our eyes widened hoping, praying that our mother was still okay. We sprint to our mother's room.

No…

We rammed the door open only when we saw the heart monitor. Our mother was hooked on beeping constantly.

NOOO! Mother please don't leave us, we want to go with you mother. They curled up right next to her on both sides crying and hugging her from both sides. Rubbing their face on her cheek, but it felt like it was futile even after a year and a half her almost lifeless body hardly moved…

The whole room went silent when that was said. All the doctors and nurses looked with pity at the two teenagers. The chief doctor walked up to the two teenagers to see if they were responsive.

He shook them once and twice but nothing happened. All he could hear were the teenagers whispering. The teenagers kept whispering please don't go mother… like it was some kind of mantra.

One of them got up, stood there. When the chief doctor looked back, the teenager he saw this morning was no longer the same… though he still had the slightest bit of Hope left.

My apologies sir…

No

just tell me doctor what was the cause of my mother's death please?

I couldn't stop the tears from falling no matter how strong I tried to look in front of my mother's dead body. I just couldn't do it.

She had cardiac arrest…

Why did this have to happen to her?

One of the doctors gave her the wrong medicine by accident, I looked at the rest of the doctors and nurses. All I have left is my brother, but not having my mother here with us makes me feel bitter inside.

Three weeks have passed since our mother left us due to unfortunate circumstances. The hospital reimbursed us with half the money that we worked so hard for, it helps the doctor that accidentally killed my mother is now in jail so it doesn't make us feel any better… it doesn't help to get our mother back.

That split second we knew that our mother was more important to us than anything else in the world.

She's always been there to support us whenever we needed it. When our mother was alive we always used to do art and love to sing her to sleep when she needed it.

We even made our gift for her upcoming funeral, but I don't even think we can get past our mother's death.

Today is our mother's funeral. We made presents for her that I think she will like it… Today is all our mother, the memory of what she represented to us. To our bewilderment the so-called family came, but when the inheritance was mentioned my brother started breaking out in manic laughter, because the greed of our family was too much for my brother to handle. Apparently it was so terrifying for them they all stepped back, I heard my brother say "our mother had to bend backwards for the money she worked hard for only to give it to a mongrel family that doesn't even appreciate what she does!!!"

The resentment started to boil in me over, I screamed in their face to rot in hell. They stiffen in shock, taking them back by our outburst of sheer rage. These fools didn't help us. Why should we give them anything in return? How dare they have the gall to ask for compensation for our mother's death.

At that moment we understood that family isn't all that it's cracked up to be, why are they always there when only they need something? I hate how they love to watch you suffer, but when you ask for something it always has to come with a price!

Another year passes and we are on our own even though we're together we still feel alone. Now we're at our graduation but it still does not feel the same.

Our life has been filled with monotony since mother left us alone. All we have done is work, study, go home, go to sleep.

The only moment we've actually enjoyed from our life is reading manga, novels, fanfics and video games with the computer. Sometimes we imagine going on adventures with our mother though through different worlds.

Our romantic life hasn't been the greatest… We are just average looking young adults. Though with the little time we have each day due to taking care of the diner and doing odd jobs. It's not like we could juggle everything, we already have on top of having girlfriends for the both of us.

The contact we had with our family is basically non-existent except for our grandfather who comes around to eat at the diner every now and then, but that is about it.

It has been an average day excluding the fact that we are having our graduation day today. We both narrowed our eyes when all the surroundings seemed frozen.

Brother, do you think this is a what the fuck moment? Yes I do. We looked at the birds to see frozen in mid-flight, then we looked all around us. We saw all kinds of people exhilarated at the end of the school year. We saw the typical pervert touching the girl's booty.

We're trying to understand what the hell is going on right now… Suddenly when a strange voice popped into our head, which sounded like a strange amalgamation of both genders and age.

[Congrats children, you two have been chosen to be a part of something special. Something you could never even dream of it being possible!]

We stared up at the sky with a vacant gaze, but silence was our only answer. The two boys didn't know how to act at that moment, because everything around them was frozen in time.

[I was anticipating some kind reaction… That was too dull for my liking. Damn you could at least scream.]

Who are you? One of brother's asked the mysterious animalistic voice.

[I feel like it wasn't as cool as she had planned… maybe that's the reason why their expressions so null]

"Are you brushing us off?" The twins maintain frowning when they realized were being neglected

[Ahem! Congrats, young children you have been selected as the two new origin users]

But the voice kept receiving the same monotone response from before.

[Come on guys be at least enthusiastic about it… can't you guys even give me a surprise expression.]

"…" The two young men stayed silent while they talked about how similar their situation was. To some of the manga or novels they have read before when they had free time, so this situation was not strange to them.

[I truly do not understand how you humans can recover some memories after a while.]

" What do you mean by that?" The brothers were clearly stunned by what the voice muttered in unison.

[Sorry I'm not authorized to speak any further]

"So correct me if I'm wrong, but aren't you one of those gods that give people systems if they reincarnate?" ask the brother curiously.

[Technically correct]

"But we aren't dead… so how does that count?" muttered the brother.

[For now…]

"…" the brothers frowned, although they were not satisfied with their life. It did not mean they wanted to die even if they were depressed. They did not fulfill their mother's dream, that they were someone important.

[Don't worry it's not the death I'm talking of at least.]

Then what are you talking about? The two brothers one had a frowning look the other had a vacant stare.

[First of all you have to agree to enter the origin… how about it? If you agree I'll be able to answer all your questions.]

"First off, what is this origin you mentioned before?" Asked one of the brothers.

[Hmm… I'm not authorized to answer that]

"Well that's stupid…" the twins snorted and shook their heads. "If we don't know what origin is, if you are not giving us info about it then how the hell are we supposed to accept what you are offering?"

[Hmm ... Fine, I'll give you the carrot then? In origin you will have all that you want.]

[It's even possible to get back what you lost so long ago… it's possible everyone's dreams can come true with origin!!]

The voice said enthusiastically…

The brothers saw a glimmer of light in the darkness for the first time in their lives… they were shocked to hear such news!
