Lilith blinked her eyes a few times, and everything suddenly made sense.
She paused for a moment to reflect on the young man's comment, followed by the fact that she had just opened her mouth to speak.
'I opened my mouth to speak.' Lilith reflected on herself, her eyes wide open in surprise.
And then she snapped back from her thought to look at the man she had just shouted at.
To her amazement, he was nowhere to be seen. It was almost as if he vanished into thin air.
Exhaling!
Lilith decided to disregard her experience with the mysterious man because all she could think about was the fact that she could now speak.
As she jumped up, she waved her hands in the air. "Icccvvvvvvvvv!"
That was strange, Lilith pondered as she quit jumping while placing both of her hands beside her.
She had wanted to scream at the top of her lungs, to profess the fact that she could now speak but when she opened her mouth, all that slipped out of her lips were rubbish.
Opening her mouth once more, she decided to say something but her lips couldn't form any words.
'Did I just speak to that man, or was it my imagination?' she wondered, her thoughts consumed by the puzzling encounter as she walked down the road.
'What is happening to me?' she asked herself, grappling with the whirlwind of events that had left her reeling.
Her mind raced, desperately trying to make sense of the inexplicable situation that had unfolded before her.
Lilith was still strolling down the road, ignorant of her surroundings, when she collided with someone.
'Gush! Why am I bumping into people today?' She said to herself as she looked up at the person she had just knocked into.
When she looked up, the pout on her face was quickly replaced by a brief bright smile.
"Morgana!" Lilith exclaimed within herself as she held her palms wide open and drew her friend in for a warm hug.
Morgana, who hadn't expected Lilith's rapid reaction, arched her brow as she wrapped her hands around her friend, gently patting Lilith's back.
Morgana drew away from Lilith after a while, placing her hands on Lilith's shoulder and staring at her with a worried expression on her face.
"You should come inside for a snack. I am currently on my afternoon break." Morgana murmured, pushing Lilith towards the eatery on her right.
Morgana, an orphan, opted to work as a waitress in different restaurants to earn a living and she has been contemptuous with everything she has so far.
As Lilith was being pulled inside the restaurant, Morgana offered Lilith a seat and as Lilith was seated, Morgana excused herself from Lilith's presence.
Some minutes later, Morgana strode towards Lilith with a cup of milkshake in her hand. "Here you go, friend." She uttered as she offered the milkshake to Lilith.
With a sigh that prompted Lilith's shoulder to rise in frustration, Lilith took the milkshake and she immediately had a sip from it, her face was filled with confusion.
"What happened?" Morgana finally decided to question Lilith as she took a seat beside her friend. "Is this because of the interview?" She added, her curiosity crashing into her as she waited for her friend to say something because she was worried.
Silence…
"Then what's it about?" Morgana calmly questioned as she gently grabbed the bag that Lilith wore around her neck.
Opening the bag, Morgana pulled out the phone of Lilith as she showed it to her. "Can't you type and tell me what happened? If the company disapprove of you, then I'll go and make a scene while telling them how good of an artist you are." Morgana said while smiling, hoping that she can be able to lighten Lilith's mood.
Once again, all that Morgana got was silence, because Lilith wasn't ready to speak, and her behaviour was already making the curious Morgana grow impatient.
Morgana clenched her hands together as she licked her lower lips.
"Would you speak up already!" She snapped at the top of her voice while smacking Lilith's head with her hands.
The entire restaurant fell silent as both employees and customers stared at Morgana and Lilith in absolute disbelief.
"I… I'm sorry." Morgana stuttered as she stood from her seat and slightly bowed her head in apology.
After apologising, Morgana clasped Lilith's hands, she wasn't bothered by what had transpired so with that she ushered Lilith out of the restaurant.
"C'mon, girl. Talk to me already." Morgana pleaded. "You are going to make me lose my mind if you continue behaving like this." She added.
Lilith signed.
"I didn't pass the job interview." She typed and with that, she showed it to Morgana.
Morgana exhaled a sigh of relief after reading the text.
Her shoulders dropped in relief when she realised Lilith's melancholy expression was due to the interview.
She had assumed Lilith had been subjected to something worse than a failed interview.
"It's only a job interview, Lilith. You will have other job opportunities in the future, so don't let one interview get you down." Morgana advised Lilith as they both walked towards a nearby playground.
Lilith breathed loudly as they both sat on individual swings.
"It ain't just about the interview." Lilith typed.
Morgana lifted her eyebrows. "What do you mean that it ain't just about the interview?" She questioned.
"I bumped into a handsome man after stepping out of the company building and I spoke to him." Lilith typed, explaining her situation to Morgana.
On the other hand, Morgana sarcastically rolled her eyes at her friend's words. "So because you speak to a handsome man is the reason why your face is this gloomy?"
A forced giggle escapes Lilith's lips, sounding like crap.
Lilith smiled as she shifted her gaze to her bestie sitting beside her, but the tiny line on the side of Lilith's lips betrayed her as it exposed that the smile was fake.
Nonetheless, Lilith averted her sight from Morgana while typing.
"I'm trying to say that, I use my mouth to speak." Lilith typed. "When I met the young man, my mouth started working fine and I could speak." She added.
Morgana gazed at Lilith with an unreadable expression, grappling with the appropriate response to her friend's situation.
"I could speak, Morgana," Lilith typed, her words brimming with a mix of excitement and confusion. "It was a miracle, and speaking felt wonderful. But as soon as the man vanished from sight, I lost my voice once more."
But then… Morgana did something that made Lilith's heart drop dead.
