Dimitris POV
I had said my goodbyes to Maria, and now it was time to leave. I glanced back at the small cottage, the warm light in the window helped to remind me that Sophie was safe and she'll finally get to experience what it means living with a mum and dad, I knew Maria would take perfect care of her.
I adjusted my bag pack and began to walk towards Loren's quarters, the sky had begin brighten up so it was easier to walk.
After what felt like an eternity, I saw a light in the distance. Loren's quarters. My heart quickened as i approached the building,
As soon as I arrived at Loren's quarters, I saw the group of men that were to go on the journey, including Marek, gathered outside, dressed and ready for the journey.
"Well well, sir punctual for once," one of the men blurted as I passed by and the rest of them burst out laughing.
"Very funny guys, very funny" I retorted
I sighted Loren standing nearby, engaged in a conversation with Marek, but his casual demeanor and appearance caught my attention. He didn't seem to be preparing to leave at all,
I decided to approach them and know what was going on.
"Loren, Marek, Good morning" I greeted when I stood Infront of them.
"Dimitri, you're here early," I thought I'd have to send out a search party with torches and Pitchfork's ... Loren said sarcastically and Marek laughed.
You don't seem prepared for the journey, I asked after a brief chuckle
"Who's going to keep an eye on things here if I leave? What if we're attacked?" His tone was dismissive, and I sensed a hint of reluctance.
Typical Loren, always sending us out to do the dirty work while he stays safe within his quarters walls.
Loren cleared his throat and began to address the group. "Listen up, men! Today, we embark on a crucial mission. Our goal is not only to explore the unknown but to capture as many mutants as possible. We must remember that they are not our friends, and our ultimate objective is to harness their power for our own gain."
We? Our???
You're not even going on the journey with us, I muttered
What was that Dimitri, did you have something to say? Loren asked
No, I replied simply
He paused, his eyes scanned the crowd. "I know some of you may have doubts, but I assure you, our cause is just. We are the superior race, and it's our duty to assert our dominance. We will not be threatened by these abominations. We will capture them, study them, and use their strength to our advantage."
His voice grew more passionate, and he clenched his fists. "We will not be held back by fear or morality. Our destiny is to rule, and we will stop at nothing to achieve it. So, let us march into the unknown with courage and determination and let us make sure those abominations never have another day of freedom.
The men began to cheer, their faces was set with determination. I watched them, my mind kept racing with doubts,
Loren really does have his ways with words.
Was this really what we were fighting for? Was our goal truly just or are we being misled? I pushed the thoughts aside and decided to focus on the task at hand. We had a long journey ahead, and I needed to stay focused if I wanted to survive.
