The policeman exchanged glances with his colleague as well as Lucy. Lucy always watched her sister going out every night so she was quite surprised to hear Aleyah not admitting what she had done. Aleyah looked at them all one by one. "What is it?" she asked, in a total confusion.
The shadows giggled. They were very happy to discover the fact that Aleyah didn't know or remember what happened to her when they took over her body. Their reaction made Aleyah become more afraid to know the truth. So she gulped down her dry throat. "Am I in trouble because I took too much medicine? It's just a medicine for my eye if you want to know. I am not doing something wrong, I mean.." Aleyah said again, referring to her overdose.
"You were at the crime scene last Thursday, miss. In the middle of night all alone at the Crystal company building. Starting to remember something?" said the police while showing several CCTV photos of Aleyah that night.
"Fainting, apparently." interrupted Lucy trying to defend her sister. She was annoyed with the police's tone and statement, which seemed to accuse Aleyah of being the perpetrator. However, the police were not as reluctant as before, the woman's response made his suspicions to Aleyah even more certain. Not long after that, someone came with a book of paper and a pencil.
"Ah, Jeremy, you're here," said the policemen then invited Jeremy to stand beside him.
Jeremy really wanted to ask how Aleyah was, but he didn't dare to do it while his colleagues and his team leader were here. Moreover, he was in the middle of work and they were conducting an interrogation for a big case.
"Well then, please describe what the killer looks like."
"I'm sorry but whose face?" Aleyah asked again. "Murderer face? What exactly are you talking about? Looks like you have the wrong person, I'm not the person in that photo. Nurse, please chase them away."
The policeman held Aleyah's hand, "Please cooperate, miss. We will keep your identity confidential, now tell us what you just confessed earlier. The villain's face, now.'' His order was firm.
Aleyah withdrew her hand from that rude and desperate policeman. Lucy whispered to her, "I also watched you go out every night Aleyah, before papa comes, please just tell them and make them leave. Papa will cut off your head if he finds out you were involved in all this."
The shadows let out a louder laugh. That's when Aleyah realized that the ghost of the teenage boy had actually borrowed her body. He literally steals her body and she doesn't know for how long it's been. "Lucy, what date is today?" Aleyah asked, staring blankly ahead.
"Today is July 9th," answered Lucy, still stroking Aleyah's back and her messy hair. Actually, the woman's entire appearance was a total mess. Nosebleed, puffy eyes and a pale face with straight short hair fell to her shoulders.
"Two weeks.." Aleyah muttered in disbelief.
The ghost had been borrowing her body for more than 2 weeks, which meant she had been missing from her own body for half a month. How scary is that?
Now she wakes up without knowing anything other than the fact that she wanders out every night and is now involved with the police because she was at the crime scene, being an eyewitness to a murder. Aleyah stared at the male ghost closely. She can see it clearly, even with her short-sighted eyes that the male ghost grinned as he could definitely read what was in her mind.
"Miss, please, we're running out of time here." the police ordered again.
"She just woke up from that shocking incident, my sister saw that terrible murder with her own eyes and you asked her about it right after she woke up, what do you expect? Give her some time." said Lucy, slightly irritated.
Lucy's words made the nurse intervene in their conversation. "She's right, you can't act like this even if you have permission." said the nurse slightly pushing the policemen out of the ward.
"Don't you realize what's going on in this city? People are being killed under our noses! Last night the most influential person in this city was found dead horribly without his little finger. We haven't found any clues for over one month, not until today where you were found unconscious near the scene of the crime. I'm sure you won't say how you got to that place considering your defensive response so far. Now that you admit that you saw the killer, give us the damn sketch of that bastard face," said the policeman while pointing his finger to Aleyah.
"Honestly you're just lucky to be alive." the policeman added his sincere words.
"I understand, people are scared and angry, and blame their fear on you, officer. But I'm sorry that I have to disappoint you." said Aleyah in a very calm voice.
"I didn't see the murderer and the murder's face." Aleyah said this time more firmly even though her voice was still a little hoarse. "You said I was found unconscious at the crime scene, right? I didn't see the killer. That's the truth."
The policeman sighed repeatedly while walking around to the back with his face looking up at the ceiling. Then he stood up in front of Aleyah again and stared closely at her brown reddish eyes. "Then why did you nod your head when I asked you about it a second ago."
"I thought you were talking about something else so I said yes." she said without taking her eyes off the teenage ghost.
"Just so you know, you could be included in the list of suspects if you continuously do not cooperate. Something else? What's that?" threatened the police again.
Aleyah swallowed hard again, "I know I'm innocent so it's up to you whether you want to consider me a suspect or not. I know what I know." she replied bravely.
The policeman sighed and finally gave in. Pressure from all sides makes them despair and lose patience. The media who need investigative information, the scathing ridicule of netizens and concerns about the safety of their own families are problems in themselves for the police. After that, they left the ward without getting any information.
Now Lucy and Aleyah were left in the ward. Lucy got a glass of drinking water then gave it to Aleyah. "Thank you," said Aleyah and then she took a sip of water.
She could feel the water wet her insides. It felt like this body belonged to her again. She was still alive although her body was very sore and hurt like it was being crushed by a truck, she had difficulty expressing it.
"They say you're lucky to be alive, and I do think the same. Besides, how did you end up fainting in the parking lot of the Crystal building?"
Aleyah looked at Lucy then closed and opened her eyelids repeatedly until her tears flowed smoothly. "I wish I could tell you, but I can't remember anything." Aleyah looked at her little sister's eyes, "You don't even know that I've been missing all this time. No, I didn't even realize it myself. I'm just grateful to be back in this world." she muttered softly.
"What did you say?" ask Lucy while bringing his ear closer to Aleyah's lips.
