Chapter 3 - Chapter 3: I.C.E pt.2

"What are you talking about?" I asked the one-eyed man

"That was a D-rank demon, and you somehow knew how to find and kill it,"

"You mean that living dammed? I spent three years hunting it down," I replied

"But why; you could have died," the teal-haired girl spoke

"...It killed my mother, and I did not care; I was ready to die if it meant I got to kill it," I said, clenching my fist.

"...alright, then explain what happened after," the teal-hair girl said

"I don't remember what happened after. Once it was dead, I passed out and woke up in that room,"

"Okay, then, who did you get your powers from, your mother or father?" Beowulf asked

"Powers, what the hell are you talking about? Just who are you people?" I asked confused

"Shit, does he really not know," the white-haired boy said with a shocked look.

"Damn, this is becoming more of a hassle than it has to be," the one-eyed man said, rubbing his head.

"Look, kid; I'm about to tell you alot of information; it's up to you whether you believe it or not,"

"Wait before we continue; why don't you tell me who you are,"

"Very well, I am Steffen Grimwood. People call me Beowulf; these two are Lilian Strangenger and Fin Claymore; they are both part of my team. We are members of I.C.E: Investigate, contain, and eliminate. Our job is to hunt down demons and keep humanity safe from the truth," Beowulf explained.

"Wait, you're telling me that there is a whole organization for killing demons…Just how are there?"

"We don't know…there could be millions. Our goal is to find where they are coming from and stop them," Lilian said

"I-I need to go; this is a lot to take in,"

"Well, you better cope with it fast; this is the life you live now," Fin said with a grin.

"What are you talking about? I only did what I did to kill the monster that took my mother from me," I replied

"That may be true, but you are going to become a target for demons and demon hunters," Beowulf said

"What do you mean a target?" I asked

"That skill you used must have activated your mana, and it's pouring out of your body. If you don't get it under control, you will never be able to live a calm life,"

Hearing his words, I looked down at my hands. Thinking back to when I was trying to run away, I knew that my body had changed. I had become stronger and faster, and wounds that would take months to heal were healed overnight.

"...Fine, teach me how to control mana," I reluctantly replied

"Very well, I want you to close your eyes and focus on nothing but your body,"

Closing my eyes, I did my best to block out everything else around me. Within a few moments, I could feel everything happening in my body; I could even feel my blood pumping. Soon, I was able to feel something else. An energy that felt cool and comforting, but it also felt rageful and out of control.

(Is this mana)

Focusing on the out-of-control energy, I followed that path of its movement until I found its source. Holding the source in my hand, I was able to force the out-of-control energy into it.

As the energy calmed, I could feel my mind become clearer, and I felt much lighter. Opening my eyes, I looked down at my hands to see a thin layer of that same yellow energy covering them.

"Damn that's some crazy ass luck. It took me three hours to learn how to control mana," Fin said, surprised.

"With how good his control is, he probably has a high affinity with magic," Lilian added.

"Okay, what now, then?" I asked Steffen

"Now you can go; we can't force you to stay here,"

"But what if I spread the information about this organization or the facts demons are real,"

"You can go ahead and do it, but let me give you a warning beforehand; the person that will come after you will make you wish you died fighting that demon,"

I don't know if it was the seriousness he said the words with, but I felt as If I really would end up regretting it if I spoke a word about this.

"So what will it be? Are you staying or leaving," Steffen asked.

Standing there, I began to think that even though I wanted to finally follow my mother's wish and live a peaceful life, I had nothing in the regular world left for me. All my assets and time went towards hunting that demon, and now, with it gone, so was my drive.

"I will stay even though I lost everything; if I can keep it from happening to someone else, that's good enough for me," I replied

"Good, it's a pleasure to have you here, Virgil," Beowulf said, holding his hand out.

Hearing my name, I hesitated for a second.

"How do you know my name? I didn't tell you that?" I asked

"We had tested your blood when you were sleeping to see if you were part demon or not," Beowulf replied

"I see. What were your results?"

"Something we didn't see coming; you were not a demon, but you're also not fully human,"

"So what am I?" I asked confused

"We don't know, but since you decided to stay, we will do what we can to figure that out,"

"Alright then, what do I do now?"

"Simple, really; we have to find you a weapon that suits you and begin your training and classes; these two will be your teammates from now on, so you can rely on them," Beowulf said, pointing at Fin and Lilian.

"...Sure, It's a pleasure to meet you," I replied
