When I reached Steffen's office, he praised my ability to take down a living damned without any official training.
"I guess the first time you did it, it wasn't by luck; you really have a talent for this," Steffen laughed.
"...Yeah, I guess so," I replied
"Anyway, it's getting late. I will take you to your dorm; class starts at eight, so don't be late," Steffen said, passing me a pair of keys.
As he guided me to my room, I couldn't help but think of his words.
(Talent, my ass, if I really had talent, then I would have been able to save my mother)
After a ten-minute walk, we arrived at a door that said male dorms on it.
"Your room is right next to Fin's; trust me, it's not hard to miss. Also, cheer up, kid. You did better than what most could say," Steffen said, placing a hand on my shoulder before walking away.
(They know more than they let on) I thought, opening the door to my room
Walking inside, I saw a bed, closet, desk, TV, mini fridge, and bathroom next to the entrance. I opened the closet and saw the same black shorts and shirt. At the bottom of the closet was a locked metal case.
Going into the bathroom, I took a shower and got ready for bed.
As I lay in bed, I could not help but think of the last time I was able to get rest. I usually spend most nights powered by energy drinks and coffee, trying to find out anything about that demon. After a few moments, I was able to fall asleep.
The next day…
I woke up to an alarm, looked around, and was confused by my surroundings until I remembered the events of the last few nights.
Getting dressed, I went to the training hall, but to my surprise, it was empty. Looking at the time, I realized that I still had an hour and a half until class began.
Instead of going back to my room, I took this chance to test the limits of my strength. Walking up to the testing machines used to measure a hunter's strength, I began the test.
Stretching my body, I punched the bag before me. Once I did, a loud boom echoed throughout the training room.
Moving on to the next test, I had to dodge lasers that were being fired at me. After reaching level 3 out of 10 before getting hit, I moved on to the next test, which was the gravity chamber.
Once the test started, the air around me felt heavier, and as time went on, it only became harder. Soon, I was finding it difficult to breathe, and I fell to one knee.
Once it got to the point where I was about to pass out, the test stopped itself, and I got a score of 13 out of 100. Moving onto the final test, I was tasked with pouring as much mana as I could into a glass orb.
When all the tests were done, the machine printed out a piece of paper with my results.
Name: Virgil Bealnoc [C-Rank]
Race: 50%-Human 50%-???
Strength: 20.9
Agility: 19.3
Endurance: 19.6
Mana: 25.5
[A/N: D-rank 10.0-20.0/ C-rank: 20.0-50.0/ B-rank: 50.0-125.0/ A-rank: 125.0-150.0/ S-rank: 150.0-175.0/SS-Rank: 175.0-200.0/King-Rank:200.0-300.0/Morach-Rank: 300.0-500.0]
"C-rank, that's the same as Lilian," I said, looking at the results.
Placing the results in my pocket, I looked at the books in the library sections and began to study basic mana control and books on D-rank demons.
Before I realized it, people had begun to fill the classroom, talking to each other and waiting for the teacher.
"What are you reading there, Virgil," Goto asked, taking his seat next to me.
"Basic mana control," I quickly replied.
"Lucky, I can't wait until I unlock my mana," Goto said with an excited look.
"Is that so," I said, not paying him much mind.
Seeing that I didn't want to talk, Goto went back to talking to other classmates. After a few moments, Chris walked into the room and stood before the class.
"Alright, everyone. It's the day you have all been waiting for; you will all be getting the custom weapons that you asked for," Chris said with a smile.
At those words, the whole class exploded in cheers and excitement.
"Virgil, Captain Beowulf has chosen a weapon for you, so don't worry about missing out," Chris said, looking at me.
Opening the door to the classroom, a group of people walked in with metal cases in carts similar to the one I found in my closet.
As the cases were handed out, everyone opened their arms and held the weapon made for them. The weapons I saw ranged from scythes and dual pistols to broadswords and bows and arrows.
Once everyone had their weapon, Chris walked up to my desk, holding a red case with talismans and chains holding it close.
"Your your sake. I hope the captain is right," Chris said before unlocking the chains and saying a small spell that removed the talismans.
Before the case was even opened, an oppressing aura came over it, making it harder to breathe. As everyone watched on with anticipation to see what kind of weapon it would be, Chris opened the case.
The next moment, the aura from before filled the room and felt even heavier. While some students fell to their knees, others struggled to stay awake.
(What the hell is this thing) I said, looking at the case
As I tried to see what it was, I could only see a thick black and red fog that felt dangerous to touch.
(No, I can't just stop here because of a bit of fear) I thought, reaching my hand out
Grabbing the weapon, a large gust of wind sounded like screaming. Once the fog dissipated, I was able to see the weapon. It was a crimson dagger, but it was different from normal daggers; the whole thing seemed to be made from red rock, and the handle was a black substance that made it look like veins.
Holding the weapon, I watched it glow red as if it was a heartbeat. As I started at the blade, I was entranced by the red glow. The next moment, the black substance from the blade dug into my skin and connected with my veins.
"WHAT THE HELL!" I yelled from the pain
As the blade dug deeper, I could feel my mind become connected to it. The rhythmic glows now became words I could understand.
The next moment, the blade began to break down and enter my skin. Soon, a red feather tattoo appeared on my forearm.
As the rest of the class regained their senses, they all looked at me worriedly. When Chris saw the feather tattoo on my arm, his eyes went wide with fear.
"What the hell, Beowulf? How could you give a student the Baskerville? Virgil, how are you feeling?" Chris said, panicked
"I feel fine," I replied
"Really, no tiredness, no headaches, nothing?" he asked
"No, I feel fine," I replied, running my finger over the tattoo.
"Alright, everyone, I'm going to have Miss Cloe take over the class; Virgil, follow me," Chris said, walking to the door.
As we walked through the hall, I could feel the anger in each of Chris's steps. When we reached Steffens office, Chris did not even wait; he just walked inside and slammed his fist on Steffens desk.
"WHAT THE HELL BEOWULF; when you said it was a soul weapon, I did not think you would be crazy enough to user Baskerville," Chris said,d clearly pissed off
"Look, I knew that it was risky, but I knew if anyone would be able to wield it, It would be Virgil," Steffen replied
"He is a human. It's going to kill him,"
"No, he is half human,"
"Fine, then it will drain his blood either way; his life is on the line,"
"He is not half demon either,"
"Then what is he?" Chris asked, now more confused than angry
"We don't know he is half human, but we don't know what his other half is," Steffen explained.
"...God, when you said you had a new student for me, I did not expect this many problems,"
