Roy tech support - 4th floor of Maria Building
It was a well spacious office space. It was very well spaced considering only 20 members worked in this rather small company. They provided tech support to some good companies , found bugs in their websites and helped establishing security measures and so on.
But mostly their jobs weren't high profile so they just remained a small self sustaining company.
"Hey Bayezid , come look at this!" Jack called
Bayezid peaked to the side where his colleague jack was seated.
Currently he was looking at the interview of a famous idol on his desktop instead of working.
Bayezid just rolled his eyes and sighed.
"Come on man , I thought you were better than this" he commented.
Jack was a fanatic fan of Airi, who got ridiculous popularity in the idol world recently.
Bayezid considered all of this as non sense. Why obsess over someone who doesn't even know who you are , where you live?
"Dude , you don't understand. Just look at her. Isn't she perfect?"
A large creepy grin appeared on his face.
"She got status , the beauty, the brains and the attitude. Come on , Im just getting attracted to her like magnet ." His Saliva almost threatened to drool out of his mouth while he said it.
Bayezid just stared at him for a good minute without saying anything.
"You know , fanning over someone is ok , but relax dude , it's just an interview right? It is not like she is showing her body or doing something crazy." Bayezid thought in his mind.
He wanted to say it out loud but couldn't.
For one , he wasn't that close to Jack.
Two, he didn't just care. He had his own problems to take of.
He had to pay rent , his electric bills , his loans and so on.
He had no time to correct a fool.
He was a bigger fool himself and how could he convince someone else?
He was average at everything. He had average personality, intelligence, looks, job and so on.
"You know , I was thinking..." Jack murmured before looking at Bayezid.
"Could you like lend me some money?"
Bayezid furrowed his brows.
"..and , why do you need it can I ask?"
He said while not looking at Jack. He had already gotten to work.
There was no set time one had to work in his company. As long as someone finished their quota for the day , they could go home. Tomorrow was saturday and the company gave leaves for some of its employees during Saturday and his name was on the list for the week , so he couldn't be overjoyed.
All he wanted to do now was just finish the job , visit a good restaurant and just coil himself up in his home.
"You know , there is this big event coming. Airi is hosting her event in our city." he started in a low tone and then his voice gradually got louder.
"It's a big opportunity. Who knows when she will host her event again here? so maybe I thought , you would lend some money as Im short of it."
"How much is the ticket?"
"Its 1000 dollars."
"..What?. How is a concert ticket 1000 dollars? are you like picking up the vip seat or something?"
"No actually , all the seats have been booked. I had been waiting for this for almost a month, you know saving up money and suddenly an emergency came out and I had to spend money. The original ticket was just 100 dollars, but now that everything has been booked , Im just left with the option to buy with a third party seller."
"...Umm, sorry Jack , I got commitments as well... I cant help you."
"Is that so , thats a shame , I understand" Jack looked ok on the outside, but actually he was frowning hard.
"Alright it seems Im done , Im off Jack , see you on Monday , happy weekend"
Bayezid didn't waste any time staying back , taking his things, he soon left the office through the lift and was on his way to the metro.
He lived in country division 2 , which contained almost the entire Middle East and some parts of Europe.
The world was divided into 5 divisions and was ruled over by a world government.
This decision was unanimously decided after the World war 3 ended on 2050. He still remembered the horrors of war. He was just a teenager , but the feeling of being inside the bunkers all the time to escape from the missiles and the bio warfare outside was suffocating.
Luckily though no one was foolish enough to use nuclear warheads and the world didn't lose many habitants.
The land was inhabitable for some year due to the constant bombardments and now that 10 years had passed , things had more or less settled.
The technology had been pushed almost 50 years back and it would take a long time to rebuild it all.
---
Bayezid slumped on his bed. The time was almost 7 pm and as his windows were curtained , it was dark and silent. It was just a flat with one bedroom , a kitchen and a bathroom.
After the war , people mostly started to live in big apartments that housed a lot of people.
The apartment itself had many amenities the people needed like supermarkets, saloon and so on.
The more rich you were , the more luxurious apartments you could afford.
He himself lived in a modest apartment with almost 2000 people. It wasn't terrible though, so he was happy.
Bayezid now , was very much tired. He just had a fulfilling meal and was was very much happy for the day. All he wanted was just to rest. He didn't even care that he was still in his office attire.
Bayezid had a tough start in life.
He was an orphan and from what people told , his parents were killed in a mass terrorist attack that killed almost 400 people. Even before the full blown out war started , small skirmishes and terrorist attacks like these were common.
His parents died when he was 2 years old. He didn't remember them clearly. Well the truth was that he wasn't allowed to think of them.
He was put in an orphanage which was really not the best. Until 10 years old he was just stuck in poverty. The orphanage let him and kids like him beg on the streets and even encouraged stealing. Well the world was havoc then , so they weren't caught mostly.
After the war started and ended only after 6 years, his orphanage was destroyed by the bombings during the war and he was just left by himself for survival. The adults and mostly the officers were only concerned for their safety. It would be fairly be shocking if he got three meals a day.
Without much to do , all he did was read books. Mostly they were novels, but sometimes he would read books on computers as well.
Once the war was over , he joined an institution which taught him programming and stuff.
Kids of his age lost education for over 6 years. The Internet was mostly shut down due to many concerns with only the higher ups having access and the efficiency of teaching kids in bunkers were poor.
The population was almost 9 billion when the war started. Only some people could fit in the bunkers. More than 1 billion people perished because of reasons due to war.
He even considered himself lucky to just get a place in the bunker. In fact only 10 million across the globe had access to this bunkers which were being built since the 21st century.
There were almost 100k bunkers but still they were not enough.
So , the kids who like him didn't get education were made to join these institutions which would teach them essential skills to land a job.
Usual schools were also started soon after.
His rough start then slowly turned to being smooth.
Now he was 26 years old and had 6 years of job experience. He had been working in Roy company for almost 2 years now.
He had atleast a job but still he had no friends. The orphanage kids were his friends and he had good memories with them. After the world war started he was split up with them , and ever since he had not any contact with them.
All the ones he asked around didn't know their status. Whenever he visited the location of the orphanage, instead of an orphanage, all he would see would be a barren land with rubbles.
He was lonely and alone.
He had a crush on a girl from his previous work.
She was beautiful but ever since he saw her kissing another guy passionately in the break room his heart was shattered.
Well in the first place what was he thinking?
He was just a bland guy ,while that girl was out of his league.
It could be a silly reason to just get heart shattered after seeing a girl you like kissing another guy. Because, in the first place who were you to say who she was with or who she liked to kiss?
But for an orphan like Bayezid who knew nothing of love and was constantly sunned by others , love was something almost magical. It made his mundane life brighter.
So what if he was miserable and unworthy?
As long as he could see her everyday and probably be with her forever , his life would be great.
That was why his heart was shattered and he decided to leave the job.
"Ah man , its no use thinking of the past, its not like something would change or I would just become a perfect guy or be loved by someone . This is life and I have to just live through."
He had to just know where his friends were. Just wanted to know if they were dead or alive....
But a place in his heart , even from his orphanage days was constantly getting darker and darker. He didn't realise it though.
---
The room was eerily silent. Only the sound of the clock ticking could be heard. It was 3 am.
A young man was sleeping on his bed soundly.
A small star pattern appeared below him on top of the bed. Soon the stars began to multiply and started to resemble a magic circle. Soon the entire room was brightly lit with a silver colour.
"Is it morning already?"
Bayezid rubbed his eyes. It seemed to get brighter and brighter the more his consciousness slowly came to him.
Soon horror struck him.
"Ay yo, what is this weird pattern and binding light?" He almost jumped from his bed.
But for some reason he didn't. It seemed that some barrier was stopping him.
He turned around. He was on the verge of falling but not really falling.
He straightened and lightly tapped the barrier.
*Ripple* *Ripple*
A weird ripple sound resounded.
"What is this? is this some kind of joke? is it my birthday party or something ? people are pranking me? But wait I don't have any friends , so it's impossible."
There was no sound though and the place was still eerily silent.
Only the blinding light established its presence.
This eerie silence was something he was used to , so he wasn't really moved by that but the strong light... just what in the world was happening?
Good five minutes passed.
Bayezid constantly tried to reach for his phone but as his phone was on the table besides him and the barrier was blocking him , he couldn't.
The blinding light also made him unable to look for very long.
"What the hell are my neighbours doing? they should know that this is serious right?"
Bayezid couldn't help but curse.
*Woosh* *woosh*
The light seemed to tone down and now it was moving around. Weird. Can someone really see light moving around?
Maybe it was a prop item.
Different sounds were heard.
*Swish* *woosh*
The lights got more violent.
Soon a sucking force was felt by Bayezid.
"The fuck?"
Bayezid head was being sucked into the middle of the magic circle.
"Someone help. HELP!!! HELP!!! AHHHHHHHH" He screamed out loud.
The sucking forced didn't hurt but still he felt powerless and couldn't move.
Soon he was absorbed like a drop when dropped on an ocean.
He vanished...
---
A man seemed to be materialising out of thin air.
"Is that what I think it is?"
A man with a long white beard wearing a white robe commented.
No one in the room answered.
There were almost 10 men and women in the dark room , all of them wearing the same robe.
They all stood forming a circle.
At the middle from where they stood, there was a magic circle much larger than the one that appeared on top of Bayezid's bed.
"Don't lose focus. Apply more energiya , we are almost there."
A man seemingly in his 50s said out loud. He wore a white robe as well but there was a pattern on its sleeve.
Soon--
A sound wave resounded. The mages who were applying energiya stumbled on their feet. There was no hurt to them.
A young man constructed pixel by pixel, came in view to them.
There was silence for sometime. The man looked at them all.
Suddenly the silence was broken.
"YES , WE HAVE SUMMONED OUR HERO. GREAT." A man screamed in ecstasy. He couldn't hold it.
That was the catalyst and soon resounds were heard throughout the room.
The young man was confused out of his wits.
He was Bayezid.
He tried to look around but it didn't give much information. The room was only lit by fire torches and some weird fire orbs thingies floating in the air at some corners.
Was he kidnapped by some weird cult?
The people in front of him looked like they belonged to a cult.
Soon a man approached him.
"Hero" he knelt down before him.
The other 9 people knelt down as well.
"We welcome you to the realm of Aurelias , to the continent of Drake."
Bayezid's frown got even harder.
The common language of the world was English. Al though other languages were not eradicated and still held prominence like Chinese, Hindi , Russian, Spanish ... the language spoken in front of him was weird.
It was not English , he was sure and it wasn't any other language he knew. He had heard the common languages many time so he had an idea.
"Maybe it's a less known language ? but still how can I understand it well?" he thought.
"Umm sir , can you like stand up , its making me uncomfortable."
The mage saw to him.
"Sorry sir , I forgot in ecstasy. You two bring him clothes"
Two mages from the back soon summoned clothes from their storage and approached Bayezid.
Soon they started to remove his clothes.
He naturally resisted.
But soon he noticed , that his clothes were torn. His shirt was ripped open and his pants were ripped open as well.
Did they get damaged during this whole strange ordeal? but then on more notice , he saw that his body felt weird. He was towering over the girl and the man who came near him to dress him up.
They looked like his height but why was he taller than them now?
He looked at his arms and chest. They were bigger than usual. Not mr Olympia level, but still much bigger than his skinny body.
After dressing him up , they backed down and knelt as before.
They had dressed him in a black robe of some sorts with a knot in between.
That was the only spare cloth they had. They didn't know that this ancient method would work...
"Um..."
"Yes sir , you can ask anything."
"Well are you a cult or something... I didn't seem to register for it...."
The mage was taken aback.
"No sir . Forgive my rudeness , I didn't give the full outline."
Saying that, he took a deep breath and began to explain.
"We are people from a faraway land who after losing their lands came to this small land to hold fort.
Our ancestors had always practiced a strange summoning ritual during desperate times that invited heroes from other realms to fight for their cause.
But due to time , those techniques which was known to all prominent mages of the clan was lost and soon left as a forgotten relic in the form of a book , accumulating dust in the treasury.
The heroes summoned from far back aren't alive as well."
The mage took a breath so the "Hero" could comprehend.
"Hundreds of thousands of years have passed and countless generations have passed. As we are now again entangled in a desperate situation , we had no option but to try this strange ritual as prescribed by the relic. It seems that the ancestors smiled upon us and we had succeeded in it the ritual." The mage replied with a huge smile.
Bayezid contemplated. There was two sides to this.
This was either a weird cult he had got himself coiled with or as the guy said, he had been...transmigrated perhaps ? as the novels describe?
Stories like these were rampant and he had read a lot of them during his stay at the bunker, so its wasn't new. But to think it would happen to him , took him aback. Nevertheless he still had to be wary.
"So , you are saying you summoned me form another world?"
"Yes , hero"
"To do what exactly ?if Im not being rude."
Bayezid had been speaking in English all along and just as he could understand this strange man's language, the strange man could understand Bayezid's language as well.
"Of course not hero. You are summoned here to fight for us, protect us and save us from peril. The details would be given to you once you have comfortably settled in this world."
"Hmm."
Bayezid had no choice. It's not like he could beat these guys and escape. Even though he felt powerful than before , his intuition told that these people were not normal. He sensed a strange energy surrounding them and him as well.
"If the hero does not have any questions , we would like for him to rest today. Tomorrow would be a busy day after all."
"Can I not go back?"
"Umm.." The mage began to panic "You.." he stumbled on his words.
"Please speak freely." Bayezid forced a polite expression.
"From our knowledge, you ... cannot sir."
Bayezid was frozen for sometime.
After some mental drama...
"Alright... just lead me to my room. Be ready , to answer all my questions tomorrow. You would do atleast that for summoning me here without my permission right?"
"Of course , of course sir , we will do whatever you ask. Be rest assured." he nodded while showing a toothy smile.
Bayezid was led out of the room by 2 guards. He was taller than them as well.
It seemed that initially he was in a dungeon and slowly he was led to someplace which looked like the interior of a castle. This place was well lit unlike the dungeon. It was night time as it was dark outside the window.
---
"What is this place?"
Bayezid saw his room like a peasant who was visiting the city for the first time.
"Hello sir"
A man wearing a butler suit soon came inside the room and dismissed the guards.
"It seems you like the room sir?"
Bayezid turned to look at the man.
"You are?"
"Im your butler sir, Steward from the house of craven , serving the royal family for almost 10,000 years."
Bayezid just nodded.
'Wait what? 10k years? thats absurd. Are they just throwing off these numbers or do they have different concepts of years here? maybe they counted the months as years individually. But still then it would be around 800 years.'
'I will definitely question the hell out of that guy.'
He resolute solemnly in his heart.
Then Steward went on explaining about the things in the room and soon he took his leave from the room.
"This looks like a room used by royalty. Have I been summoned to a world where monarchy exists?"
Bayezid attention was soon shifted towards something else.
The full length mirror that was close to the large balcony...
