Chereads / The king of all lands / Chapter 4 - THE FALL OF THE DOOM (4)

Chapter 4 - THE FALL OF THE DOOM (4)

As soon as Bayezid used the 2 star ability "The voice of lion ", the audience fell silent.

Now that Bayezid had put on the crown and basically announced that he was the king , his authority was now established and there was no choice for others but to bow down.

Due to that fact , everyone in the crowd bowed down while Lilith and her niblings just did a polite gesture indicating their high position in society.

After a good 5 minutes passed , Bayezid began.

"Everyone here must have doubts regarding whether I could rule this land and bear the huge responsibility of taking care of the welfare of people. But fear not , the previous magnanimous king Argonian, who was gracious enough to take me as his heir , taught me many things, that Im confident I would guide this nation to a good place."

Bayezid just recited from the script Jass had prepared beforehand.

He then went on to speak about all kinds of things for an hour straight. Talking about his origins , the house of Athreya , thanking many nobles , addressing his general plans for the country.

"That pretty much concludes my speech. Even though I could extend it longer and speak so many things , I would prefer to convey it to you through actions than words."

Bayezid took a deep breath. He wouldn't have given this long of a speech if Jass hadn't convinced him to do so.

He was at first nervous and skeptical. This strange ordeal was too much for him and the thought of being a "hero" to someone and carry lots of responsibilities didn't sit well with him. He was someone who did the minimal work when it came to his job or pretty much anything, to get it done.

Thats why he said to Lilith , Jass and others that he would leave the world as long as he "found" a way to leave it.

But over the days as he had discovered that he could do many new things in this new world , go on exciting adventures , learn pretty much anything due to his high talent , he started to became more fond of this world.

What was he in this previous world?

Nothing but an orphan who didnt have a smile on his face , struggled all his life just to get a job that was just enough to pay rents and set aside some money for savings and his own indulgences.

Nothing would change if he went back and he would just live the same mundane life again while leaving this new "Exciting" world behind.

He didn't want that.

But besides that , the option of being a king though , still he didn't know for sure yet if he wanted to do it.

While the notion of having absolute power was enticing for the orphan , he didn't forget that by being a one he would be under a lots of responsibilities , the very first reason he wanted to "escape" this world.

But nevertheless , whatever may happen , he just decided to go with the flow and let things unfold with time.

He had nothing to lose anyway and he would just try to make most of his time here.

Besides it might be just a dream or he might be in a coma , that he would soon wake up from.

"If anyone has any questions , I would be happy to address it " Bayezid said with a smile that melted the hearts of men and women alike.

But one woman was not swayed.

"Your majesty , Bayezid" a voice resounded from the gallery.

Bayezid looked at where the sound came from.

His eyes then fell on a middle aged women of average height and average countenance. But the guards that stood around her and the area where she sat indicated that she was of very high standing.

Erlands was divided into three districts.

She was the duke who controlled the 1st district of Erlands to the north.

The 2nd and 3rd district on the other hand was controlled by the king himself and his vassals.

Although she was a very high ranking official , she was not a part of the council.

But nevertheless she had some ministers of the council under her palm leading to having her opinion mattered in the affairs of the state.

She was also the "de facto" leader of the faction that wanted to overthrow the king.

Her name was Sophia Athreya.

"I would like to ask a question" Sophia began. While she talked in a polite tone , her expression was of arrogance , rudeness.

"Duke Sophia , I would be glad to answer the question you have." Bayezid said with a smile but deep under he hid a frown.

'This crazy woman , what question does she have?" he thought.

He looked at Jass for help who just gestured him to be calm.

"Your majesty , even though you have addressed the issues of the current war with Herza and the general plan to be carried out in the future regarding it , you have failed to address the infiltration of many Herzian Elves who are enticing the feeling of restlessness among the common people and are making them have a negative opinion towards the crown."

This was true.

The war had led to many people lose their families , their livelihoods , their happiness and so on. Due to this the restlessness among the people was said to be increasing day by day as the situation wasn't getting much better.

Some groups seeing profit , began to further fuel the resentment towards the crown , especially in certain groups of people like the elves living in Erlands near the border of Silliands.

These profit seeking groups included the some illegally entered Herzian elves who were training the people to take arms and potentially enter into a full fledged rebellion towards the crown.

While the question and the concern towards it was valid...There was a problem to it.

This woman right in front of him was the main cause that this was happening. How could illegal activities of this scale could happen and go under the radar of the country?

No matter how weak Erlands had become in the past few years , still it was a country with a rich history and ways of great intrigue.

There was no way it didnt receive news of people illegally entering its borders or possible rebellion across the crown.

The way things were happening now were due to the support that this woman and her faction members were giving to these groups.

While both sides knew this fact , Bayezid and others couldn't do anything.

Even though they knew about it , they had no proof of it as their involvements in these matters were hidden well.

Even after all this , due to the fact that this woman was acting clueless and asking this ridiculous question , led to the notion that she wasn't simple and even had possible reasons behind asking this question.

"Duke Sophia , I do understand why an innocent heart like you who cares about her people would ask such question. Fear not , every illegal activity is being monitored and would sooner or later be quenched permanently."

Then Sophia went on to ask minor questions related to the question. Bayezid more or less answered it... satisfactorily.

"Well , kindly forgive my rudeness , Duke Sophia , but the king has important things to attend to. I hope he would have answered all your questions."

Soon Jass interfered and concluded the coronation ceremony.

Before long Jass and Bayezid were back to the castle , at Lawnlow.

Bayezid sat on a magnificent chair in a medium- sized room. The room looked like one reserved for administration. It had books on various shelves and couches where people could sit and discuss.

At one corner of the room was a big window across which sat a table , where documents were kept. It had a magnificent chair and , 2 modest looking chairs opposite to it.

Besides the table , there was a big globe showing the map of Golden rock.

"What is the deal with the woman?" Bayezid asked Jass who sat across him.

"She knows that she is the main reason behind why those dudes are infiltrating our cities and inducing rebellious thoughts among people... then why?"

Jass seemed to be pondering for some time and kept looking at Bayezid in silence.

"Hmm... your majesty , I believe that there is no "big" goal or agenda behind that question."

" 'Big' goal ? what do you mean?"

"Of course , I mean recruiting nobles and overall just creating a mass fake sympathy.

As for recruitng nobles , most of them have already joined the 2 major factions. The ones left are really only the nobles who are knights or barons. Even if they join one , they wouldn't do much help either with their modest power.

On the other hand , as most of the nobles have a general idea of who is causing this discourse , trying to create sympathy and getting popularity wouldn't work either. But for the people who are watching this live , it may work but those people are already few in number. Most are just trying to survive everyday that I believe that over half of the population doesn't even know that a new king is being coronated." Jass finished on a heavy note.

"So why do you think she did it?"

"I reckon , it's just a sign of arrogance and superiority. Its as she is declaring that 'even if you know that Im behind this , you cant do anything to me' "

Bayezid just remained silent. This was probably too much for him.

Jass saw that too and before Bayezid got more confused , he told him to just rest for the day.

Tomorrow he would assign each of the ministers what to do.

---

It was a sound proof room. There were totally 11 seats , with a seat in one corner of the room.

To the seat on each side , a column was arranged symmetrically with 5 seats.

There was a map behind the stand alone seat depicting the map of Erlands.

Erlands was about 10k km squared in surface area.

On each seat , ministers were sat. A water bottle was kept in front of them. Maids and butlers were standing in a corner of the room unless , one of the officials would need something.

Across the seat that looked grandeur than the others sat Bayezid, and to his right stood Steward.

Jass just sat on the first seat to his left.

No one spoke anything. It was forbidden to speak before the king said anything. No one was also allowed to leave unless some kind of bill was formed and approved then and there.

"I would like to begin the session of drafting of bills" Bayezid sat on a light tone.

Everyone just nodded their heads , or at the very least it looked like they did.

"Even though we have talked about this in the past 2 weeks quite briefly , I would once again like to remind you of the dire state of the country which I believe you all know better than me."

Everyone again just nodded their heads.

"Today , I would try my best to at least deliver some positive changes . I kindly ask you all to also aid in my decision."

"We will " some answered in unison just enough to be heard.

"Hmm... but your majesty , the country is already doomed and what can someone like you who just appeared yesterday could possibly do what we are trying for well over 20 years?" Johnson , the minister of home affairs said with a venomous tone.

Some of the ministers looked in dismay , while others seemed to be neutral or even were trying to hold a smirk from breaking out.

"Minister Johnson , I would like to remind you that you are in the king's presence and any rudeness would not be tolerated." Jass said while releasing his Second tier peak level aura.

Even though Johnson was also a second tier movement arts practitioner , even he was taken aback as he was only in the low level.

Even though the difference between the three levels... low , middle , high wasn't that significant compared to different tiers , but still nevertheless it was potent.

The other ministers were also taken aback as they were also second tier low level with even one or two being in the first tier peak level.

Bayezid didn't suffer any pressure as Jass didnt direct it towards him.

"It's alright prime minister Jass, I do understand Minister Johnson's concern. Everyone would have suspicions on how a new ruler would do especially if he doesn't have a reputation to be heard of before." Bayezid said before looking at Johnson.

Although he was speaking politely , somewhere one could see a frown that could kill Johnson if he just saw it.

"But good sir , let me assure you , as I have learned in the great ways of clan Athreya , soon just as promised I would lead Erlands to glory that it once held , of course with the help of you all distinguished people."

But Johnson didn't back away.

"Ridiculous , even though you might be some noble descendant taken in by the previous king , you are still some one not experienced. Besides if you are really claiming to be trained by the king , then why are you still in the first tier low level?"

This was a question that aimed to poke at the major loophole that came with saying that he was someone trained by the king.

But Bayezid answered it calmly.

"As I said before Johnson , Im not originally from golden rock but from the lands of the seriatim where slavery is rampant. Even I too was a victim of slavery . Even though I was grateful enough to be taken into a kind household but still as per the great laws of Seriatim , I was not supposed to learn any of the great arts. As a result all I had was the naturally formed dantian in my body."

Bayezid lied. Even though he had formed a dantian and a core only in the past two weeks one couldn't really know about it as for knowing the exact level of someone they had to have experience by judging their aura or by just being in the upper tiers beyond tier three.

The auras of a first tier low level and a mortal were nearly the same as technically both of them were same except the fact that one was inactive in circulating energiya.

"One day king Argonian had a dream where his ancestors told him of me, someone who is supposed to be descended from one of the noble bloodlines of Clan Athreya. Even I was unaware of this , as I was just a slave and an orphan who had no knowledge of the world." Even though Bayezid said it calmly , when he mentioned the word orphan , he felt bitter in his heart.

"It was truly a miracle as during that time after I was disowned by the new master of the house, I was dragged around the republic of the Sunburn Dragons and King Argonian came just in time and saved me from the misery I was put in."

Indeed it was true. Just before King Argonian declared war on the Herzians , he bought some slaves from the rare caravan that was rumoured to come from beyond Golden rock. As this was a 500 years once occurrence , he decided to buy some slaves. So this story was perfectly articulated.

"He soon took me in as his disciple without the knowledge of others. As he was a third tier middle level movement arts practitioner also proficient in scholarship , he thought he was the most suitable. But after learning that I was infested with a cruel curse that would prevent from learning any of the arts even if I wanted to... he was devastated for some time."

The curse he was addressing was known to everyone. It was a universal curse that had many variations.

But generally it was a curse that continued indefinitely until some conditions were met.

Depending on the prowess of the curse , one had to be free of any slave works for some years or had to do some rituals. But "unfortunately" for Bayezid , it was the former and due to that reason he wasn't able to learn the arts and was only to learn the scholarly things.

"As faith had it , I was only to be released from this curse exactly 17 days ago."

As one was released from this curse , they would know it naturally. It was like instinct, something that couldn't be told in words.

Johnson wasn't convinced though.

"Hmph... I know that much." he crossed his arms in disapproval. This just looked like a perfectly curated story , but still he couldn't refute the legitimacy of the story.

Besides all these years , he never knew of a person of the description of Bayezid even from the spies he had in the palace.

Then again , he couldn't just say he didn't receive any news from his spies, unless his head should roll on the ground.

"Well then , I think we have wasted enough time. Time is of the essence here , am I right Prime Minister Jass?"

"Hmm... then , I would begin."

Jass then stood up from his desk and first addressed Marcus , the minister of economy.

"Marcus , kindly produce the report on the economy of the state."

Usually reports were only curated at the end of a month or three months but Marcus was instructed to curate a comprehensive economy report for current time.

"Hmm.. there you go honourable prime minister."

Soon a butler came and gave the report to Jass.

Jass studied it for some time.

"So , this month , the month of the 7th , our economy is performing quite... poorly."

Marcus nodding his head began

"Albeit our best efforts , we have closed about 2 factories dealing in clothings this month due to the lack of capital to run the machineries and to provide the labour. Not to mention we had no sales as the people have no money themselves to buy clothes. The merchants are an option but they were too focused on earning profits that we couldn't sell the clothes for meagre amount of money.

Finance from the agriculture has been dropping as well. Small scale business are shutting down , many people due to losing their jobs are migrating to the kingdom of Trimbiole , Zeneb to the west , even to Silliands and small tribal states of Manor and Tellûr, who are also quite prosperous these days due to the silent east hiring them as mercenaries due to their war efforts against the savages living in the great ice."

Marcus then went on describing the situation of the economy of the country in brief . He was an ally.

"Thats all your majesty , as it is only a report of a month , its not too much."

Bayezid cursed in his mind. Just a month and two factories were closed down? how was this country even functioning?

Then in order , the ministers each gave their report they collected for the month.

Augustin Athreya , the minister of imports and exports.

Johnson Athreya , the minister of home affairs.

Ichika Athreya, the minister of transport.

Mahmud Sheik Athreya , the minister of defence.

Francisco silva Athreya , the minister of education.

Park shin hye Athreya, the minister of technology and development.

Pedro Athreya , the minister of culture and tourism.

lux von Manstein Athreya , the minister of information and broadcasting.
