After winning the tournament and becoming the Dragon God, I began to understand why my predecessor had forfeited his title. A Dragon God is not merely the strongest dragon in body and mind; that would imply he is only marginally more powerful than the rest. The truth is far more profound. When a dragon ascends to the position of Dragon God, he inherits not only the title and authority but also the divine abilities befitting such a rank.
Upon my ascension, my esteemed predecessor took an oath on the ancient relic of dragons, known as the "Mirror of Dominance." In transferring his title to me, all his strength and abilities flowed into me, while his own powers faded away.
The shock to my body as it absorbed such immense power was overwhelming. I was unconscious for two hours, but the elders of the dragon council assured me that it was normal for an ascendant to remain unconscious for weeks after such a transformation.
However, becoming a Dragon God is not without its burdens. After ruling for a few centuries, many Dragon Gods chose to relinquish their titles. The ascension ritual imposes certain oaths that must be adhered to:
1. A Dragon God cannot interfere in the affairs of the human world.
2. A Dragon God must not meddle in the workings of the Dragon Council.
3. A Dragon God cannot use his powers for personal gain and must seek the council's permission for any actions that could significantly impact the world.
While there are additional restrictions, these are the most significant. Initially, I paid little heed to these rules during my ascension, but after several decades, they began to feel like chains binding me.
Determined to retain my powers while stepping back from the responsibilities of being a Dragon God, I knew I faced a formidable challenge. Thus, I began an extensive study into the matter.
