Chereads / HIS (DARK ROMANCE) / Chapter 26 - 25

Chapter 26 - 25

When Regan entered the house, the first thing that Monica told her to do was: shower, eat and drink the pills.Regan sighed in frustration and a shiver ran down her spine at the mention of pills. She went to the bathroom, on the first floor. She took a long shower, it was not like she wanted to pass time. After the shower, she dressed up and ate. Monica was consistently looking after her. Regan didn't like it very much but didn't have what to do.And so, time went by and it was time for Monica to give her pills. She even made Regan to go in her room and sleep there.Regan agreed internally that she wasn't going to sleep there."And what are these tablets for?" Regan asked, bored. She was looking for a way to fake drinking them but it was hard if Monica was going to be around."They are to ease your hallucinations." Monica replied."Well, I'm going to drink it, you can go and sleep, aunt." Regan said, trying to make up an excuse."No, I'm not leaving until I see you drink it." Monica demanded handing her the tablet and the glass of water.Regan was caught in a hard situation. She didn't want to drink it. What would happen if she did?A thought came to her that maybe she could do it once, so that Monica would be convinced."Don't do it."Regan knew exactly from who the warning came of. Thinking about it deeply this whole thing made no sense. How could he talk in her mind?Taking it in consideration, she thought something. Maybe she could keep the tablet inside her mouth and not swallow it."Okay," she said and took the pill. She gulped the water down but not the tablet. And Monica actually bought her lie thinking she really drank it."Don't worry sweetie, that's for your good only. She stroked her hair and kissed her forehead, "Goodnight," she said and left the room, turning the lights off.As soon as she did, Regan pushed the covers away and went to the bathroom to threw the pill out. She also washed her mouth to get rid of the odd and bitter taste. She knew that lying was bad and if Monica learnt that, it would be really bad but Regan didn't had any other way.She looked at her reflection and wondered of what Monica thought of her red hair. Did she think she was coloring them herself? She walked out of the bathroom and turned back on her room. Turning the lights on, she looked at the time. It was 10:34.She had the choice to go and sleep but she didn't feel safe doing that. As for the dream, she wasn't really much scared as back then. She sat on the bed and waited a few minutes. She waited so that she could go downstairs when her aunt would be asleep. After some minutes, Regan got up and went to the living room. She paced a bit around and then sat on the couch, looking at her phone. Then, she drank lemonade and ate some chips that had been left in a cupboard. Normally, there wouldn't be left because she'd eaten them all but these days she thought only about one thing only. And so she didn't sleep for once but her eyes were red and tired in the morning. At least, she didn't have school the next day. She didn't want to zone or feel sleepy in the class. She'd rather sleep at day, rather than at nights, although he still haunted her.She also checked the footage of the cameras. When looking at records, she looked at her own self, when she walked around the house in the middle of the night. She deleted all the recordings.Regan wouldn't risk if Monica saw that.Suddenly Monica walked in the living room in her sleeping attire."What are you doing here so early?"The girl in question had gotten the laptop out of sight and had a book in her hand."It's better to wake up early. Sleep is overrated." Regan said.Monica shook her head and slowly walked to the kitchen."I will go to meet with a friend. Stay home."Regan didn't say anything. She prepared breakfast for herself because Monica left early. For other hours she did the usual, watching TV or reading. When Monica came home, she asked her of how she was, how did she feel. Of course, Regan said she was okay."I'm going to tell you something, Regan. You may not like it but..."Monica said, searching through her bag."What?" Regan snapped right back. She thought it had to do something with her fake disorder."Well, tonight, I won't be home." Monica said, her voice calm."What? Why!""Regan, don't worry. It's because of my work. It will only be one night, I'll be back tomorrow." she assured. But Regan was more then worried to be left alone all night."So, I'll be alone all night?!""No, you don't have to. I talked it out with Vesper. She's going to have a sleepover here or you can go at her house if you want. It's your wish." Monica said.Regan was relieved that her aunt had thought about it. It was thousand times better than being all alone."Uh....okay then....when are you leaving?" She asked."5pm." Monica replied. They talked to each other about Monica's work and then Regan texted Vesper to ask her when she'd come. Vesper said she'd come as soon as Monica would leave.Instead the girl had to listen to her aunt's lectures of how she was going to drink the meds. Regan even had to promise about it and knew she was going to break it.She hated breaking promises. Time passed, she wanted or not.Monica left and Regan stayed quiet for the first ten minutes. She wondered when Vesper was coming for the sleepover.Regan paced anxiously in the room, her impatience growing as she waited for Vesper. Thoughts raced through her mind, wondering why Vesper hadn't shown up yet. She tried reaching out to her through her phone, but there was no response.Determined to find out what was going on, Regan made up her mind to go to Vesper's house, which was conveniently close by.She stood in front of Vesper's door and knocked insistently. But to her dismay, the door remained shut. Panic started to creep that Vesper might not be home. The thought of being alone in her own house frightened her. She had agreed to let her aunt go only because Vesper had promised to stay with her. And now, it felt like Vesper had betrayed her trust. The fear grew even stronger, knowing that she would have to spend the night alone in her house. And she knew very well deep down that she wasn't even alone and that terrified her the most.It would have been better if she really, but really was alone.Regan felt helpless in all the possible ways but straightened back. She reminded herself that wasn't a little girl and being scared would only make her weak.Returning home, she wanted to find something that would bring her peace. She wanted to do something different, something that would distract her from the unsettling thoughts. Watching a movie crossed her mind, but she realized she wasn't in the mood for it.She couldn't help but notice how the sky outside was growing darker and darker, while the road became illuminated by the streetlights, creating a contrasting scene.Tonight was different from other nights. Her aunt wasn't there, and Regan had made up her mind not to sleep. She felt a mix of anger and disappointment towards Vesper for lying to her.It was hard to shake those thoughts from her mind. Part of her tried to rationalize that Vesper might have had some important business, but it still didn't feel fair. Regan's trust issues started resurfacing, causing her inner turmoil. She had to make sure that her phone was fully charged. She didn't even used it at all. While being on the middle of the read, she left the book on the table because she wanted to make sure that every door was locked. So she started to check every door which led outside, to lock it. She silently would hope and pray that no creepy thing would go around and that she wouldn't find herself in some horror game.Time passed and all she did was nothing interesting, she ate and stayed in anxiety, all eyes and ears opened for any suspicious thing. It was already ten o'clock and her eyelids felt heavy. She sighed frustrated because wasn't planning to sleep. Not tonight at least. She had gone other nights with no sleep at all. She could do it that time. She got up from the sofa and walked to her room only to get her laptop. But the moment she got the laptop, she thought of just taking a simple nap an then waking up again. That way she fell straight asleep in her bed.***Regan, with her heart pounding like a drum, sat up abruptly in bed. She could feel the beads of cold sweat trickling down her forehead as she scanned the pitch-black room. The darkness seemed to envelop her, making it impossible to see anything. Regan's throat felt parched, and she struggled to swallow the dryness away.As she fumbled for the lamp on her nightstand, a sound echoed through the room, causing her to shiver with unease. With trembling hands, Regan managed to locate her iPhone on the floor. Unlocking it, she activated the flashlight, illuminating the room with a soft glow. She grabbed the water can and poured water in the glass.Just when she turned around to drink it, her eyes locked with a pair of captivating, piercing blue eyes.Unintentionally, the glass fell from her hand, landing softly on the carpet.Sirius leaned against the wall near the window, his hands on his pockets. He was staring at her, a smile tugging the corners of his lips.Time seemed to stand still as Regan blinked so many times and he didn't disappear. The fear that gripped her intensified, and she desperately sought a way to escape the haunting gaze of him. Why wasn't he disappearing? Why was he still there? Then out of nowhere, he straightened up and slowly started moving. Regan's eyes widened as she reminded herself she wasn't in some dream. There wasn't left any courage to her. As fear overtook her, she stormed out of the room, with her phone in her hands. The room's door wasn't locked with a key, like in horror games, so Regan managed to get downstairs quickly with rapid breathing. Her mind wasn't working well and she only wanted to leave the house. Using the phone's light, she ran to the main door but it was locked. Gladly, the key shone in a shelf, her car's keys were at the same place. She grabbed them both but was struggling to unlock the door. Her thin hands couldn't even handle the keys and tears threatened to fall from clumsy she was being. After what felt as eternity, the door opened and she quickly closed it from the outside. She locked it two times and then ran to her car to enter in and lock the doors. She turned the engine on with her hands trembling om the wheel.Regan had no idea where her destination was but she had to get out of here. The night air rushed through the open windows, providing a sense of relief and freedom. As she drove down the dark, winding road, Regan's mind raced with thoughts of where to go.It was night and there wasn't any place to go. But she continued to drive on the road, a relief spreading on her realizing she was far away from her house now.She was near a park, which looked abandoned in the dim lights around. Regan wasn't planning to go outside, she would stay in her car but every place looked scary. She jumped from her seat when her phone vibrated. The phones display flashed and Vesper's number was shown. Regan frowned of why she remembered to call now. She picked up the phone."What a great time to call!" Regan said with an angry tone to her."Where are you?" Vesper's voice was heard."In the middle of nowhere.""Regan, don't play games, where are you?" This time her voice was more annoyed."How do you know I am not home?" Regan sighed."Uh, I'm here and I know you're not.""I'm far away from here and I'm not turning back, not now.""Fine, but where are you?""I'll send you my location." Regan said and hung up. She sent her the location but she didn't want to meet her. Vesper got some explanation to do.She looked at the phone's clock and only 15 minutes had passed since she was inside her house. She closed her eyes shut and wondered what she did to deserve all that. It was very creepy to her, being watched that way while she slept.Regan's eyes opened again and she felt very tired. What was even worse, telling her aunt was no use. She was already diagnosed mentally unstable and her aunt wouldn't believe her.She saw bright lights which belonged to a car coming in the way. The car stopped a bit away and a girl's figure stepped out.As the girl walked, the lights fell on her face and revealed she was Vesper.Vesper walked towards Regan's car and leaned in to the window."How did you find a taxi at this time of night?" Regan asked straight confused. She couldn't see the driver of the car though."There are plenty out there." Vesper said rolling her eyes, "you tell me, what are you doing here at this time?""Long story, I don't think you care." Regan sharply replied."Will you open the door and let me in?" Vesper shot her a glare.Regan unlocked the door to her right and let Vesper to come in."So, now, what's the long story?"Regan didn't really want to tell her to the depth. Because in truth, she would seem like a coward."You tell me first, why did you lie to me? You said you were coming for a damn sleepover after my aunt left.""Calm down, I didn't lie to you. I was going to come as soon as your aunt left but my sister called me and she needed me to do a deliver to someone. I wasn't even in city." Vesper said and sighed making Regan believe what she said."You could have answered my calls." Regan replied."Oh yea... I'm sorry bout that, but my phone was dead. Now, tell me, what the hell we are doing here?""I...I don't know how to say it.""It has to do something with your haunting?" Vesper said, her voice held a hint of amusement."Please, that's not a joke. That crap is real.

You would've done the same if you were me." Regan said and glared at her.

"I seriously don't know what I'd do in that situation." Vesper said looking straight at the road."Well, it doesn't matter, what matters is that he is real and he's hanging around on my house, watching me sleep.""You seem to exaggerate." Vesper scoffed."I'm not.""And that's why I told you about the ghost hunter thing."At hearing this, Regan put her hands to her face."Don't start again with that witch, he's not a ghost."Vesper let out a lame laugh, "Witch? She's not a witch. And what's so wrong to try it out? She's not going to kill you!" She sneered, "Ruxena is a woman who deals with these things. And we should get the opportunity because she's in town these days. She sells herbs on the market."Regan thought about it a little but still it was nearly impossible."My aunt would never let me do this.""Your aunt doesn't have to know everything you do. You're eighteen, for a few months nineteen, not a little kid." Vesper said, sounding persuasive."And what would she think if I brought a stranger to my house?""That's not your fault, it's her fault that she doesn't believe you. It's just pathetic."Regan looked through the window, trying to comprehend it. What if she gave it a try? Monica didn't have to know about it."Come on, only one time. I can't see you anymore like this." Vesper said and smiled reassuringly.Regan let out a long sigh, "Fine.""Yay! This takes place tomorrow...or should I say, today?" Vesper exclaimed.
