Third person POV
For the next 4 days, Reina started to adapt to life in Gen's organization. He started to leave his room, only to look around the headquarters and go to the toilet. But, he didn't try to take showers just to clean his body of dirt accumulated from his depression and regret. Even so, Rashi and one of Gen's squad leaders, Nato Hokawa, started to give him food, water, and other necessities in his room so he could survive his depression. But at least, Reina didn't totally become a shut-in because he still at least communicates with a handful of people. Also, he experiences so much unforgiveness to himself as well, exasperating his state of despair and slow self-destruction.
One afternoon, in a restroom on the second floor of the main headquarters, Reina was looking at the mirror with guilt and self-hatred. And then, a monster was shown because of his mental and emotional distortion in his mind because of what he did to Gen. Fearing that he had become a monster like Gen, Reina punched the mirror in strong anger with his left fist while cursing himself, "FUCK ME!"
The mirror was shattered, and the shards of broken glass were cutting into the skin of his left fist.
He then pulled his hand out, seeing the damage he had done to it and feeling the pain of bleeding from the cuts.
"I hated myself…" Reina began to sob, before slumping on the floor in pain, in both physical and emotional pains. "I'd rather burn in hell…"
Nato and Arashi heard his cries and the shattering of the mirror, and they both ran to the scene.
Upon arriving there, the two men were shocked to see Reina crying with a bloody left fist. "What happened to you?" Nato asked him while he and Arashi entered in and checked on him. Still sniffling, Reina looked at them, "I hated myself…so I punched that mirror with my fist because I saw a monster as a reflection of me. "
He then looked at the broken mirror, which signifies his shattered character.
Nato and Arashi looked at it and were shocked.
"You literally punched it?"
"That was quite strong…"
Reina then nodded while still crying and sniffling.
Because of this, Nato carefully removed the glass shards from Reina's bloody left fist, used his hand towel to cover it, and called for medical assistance through his walkie-talkie. A bit later, some paramedics and soldiers from Gen's private army came to the scene, helping with Reina's wounds and clearing and cleaning the scene. Two of them removed the shattered mirror as well. Reina remained sad, docile, and pacifist as his wounds were being treated. Nato and Arashi explained to them how he got that, much to their shock. Reina's left fist was eventually covered in bandages, rendering it partially unusable for a while.
Later, while walking to the clinic for an additional checkup, Reina asked Nato if the cuts on his left fist were to be permanent scars. "I am not sure though…" Nato responded, "…but might be…"
"Okay…" Reina replied while looking down in guilt, "…if these became permanent scars, then I'll accept them without question, for these are the reminders of my shattered self…"
Nato and the others who walked with him and Reina couldn't help but feel bad for him.
His depression stayed the same after that, but one time, when Nato came to check on him, he heard some objects hitting the walls and floor. He soon discovered that Reina was getting worse a bit in his depression. Now, he throws objects across the room to vent out his self-blame and self-hatred for killing Gen out of vengeance.
"Woah, Reina-kun, calm down!" Nato tries to calm him down.
"I'm a bad person!" Reina yelled out as he threw a pen across the room, before breaking down into tears once again. "I'll never forgive myself!"
Nato sat down next to him and patted his back. "It's okay. Calm down. I'm here for you."
"I'm sorry…" Reina sobbed.
"You had been saying that every time we visited you," Nato replied, trying to keep his tone as sincere and sympathetic as possible.
"I know…" Reina nodded slowly while sniffling, "…I think…"
He paused.
"Think what?"
"…of dying," Reina responded finally.
This shocks Nato a lot. "What? Suicide?"
Reina shook his head. "No, I'll die alone and rot away."
"What? Please, no, don't do it."
"I don't deserve to live."
"Yes, you do, Taro-san, you have so much to live for!"
But Reina couldn't be convinced.
So, Nato decided to put aside his duties and stay with Reina for the night.
The next day, the PTSD of Reina gets worse. Reina had a seizure on his bed, and Nato was alerted by it. Nato then called for help. Some medics came to the scene and tried their best to calm and subside Reina's seizure, but Reina blacked out after the seizure. Later that day, Reina's seizure ended at 5:40 a.m., but Reina remained traumatized and mentally and emotionally dead. At the same time, Gen finally woke up from his 5-day coma. He then got up and saw his surroundings, confused, disoriented, and a bit groggy. "What happened to me? Where am I?" Then, he looked at Arashi, who was asleep on a sofa in the room.
"Ara-kun?" he asked him.
This causes his head researcher to wake up from his slumber and look at him.
Arashi was very surprised to see his leader alive and again.
So, he ran to him and hugged him a bit. "Gen-san!"
"W-What happened to me?" Gen asked him back.
Pulling from hugging, Arashi explained, "A young man named Reina Taro killed you, but he felt extreme regret afterward, so he asked us to save you instead."
Gen was shocked to hear that; he didn't expect that and thought he deserved to be slain by Reina for his crimes against humanity.
But now, he was there, alive and well.
"Woah…" Gen commented as he looked at his thighs, "…I thought I deserved to die for what I did. But, he did it, for me?"
"Yes, he did it for you," Arashi responded confidently.
His tone then turned into a concerned one. "But he is now depressed and is now giving up on life."
Gen was once again shocked to hear that. "What? He is?"
Arashi then nodded solemnly.
"Where is now? Is he going to kill himself?"
"He's currently in one of the sleeping quarters in this building. And no, he is not going to take his own life. He said that he would die slowly and rotting himself away instead."
Gen was alerted with shock by it because he didn't want his soon-to-be new friend to die because of that single regret in seeking revenge. "No, I don't want him to die. Please, we have to stop him before he does something harmful to himself!"
Arashi nodded in agreement. "Once you have recovered enough, I'll take you to his room."
And so, Gen waited until he had recovered enough to walk.
