Chapter 9 - Chapter 9 – Friendship reassured

Third person POV

Later on, Reina and his two escorts are now walking down the streets with Mara and Martha. They decided to escort the twins to Gen's headquarters for their safety. At this point, Reina didn't want to tell the twin women about his past actions on Gen. Not long after, the five of them arrived at the location of Nato's squad vehicle. There Nato saw them coming, and so, he went to them. "You guys are back. How's the area in the northeast?"

"Nato-san, it's not much compared to the southwest part of the city," Reina answered back like an obedient soldier.

Mara and Martha were stunned to see his affiliation with Nato and thinks that Reina was working with him in order to survive the zombie outbreak.

"Okay, good," Nato replied back, before looking at Mara and Martha. "Oh, are those two survivors?"

"Yes, we are," Mara responded back, "and we are running out of food."

"Ah, I understand. Come with us. We'll take you two to our headquarters for your safety.

Thinking that they will be in a safe place, Mara and Martha nodded to say yes.

And so, all of them, alongside the rest of Nato's squad climbed into the squad vehicle, which is a truck of Gen's organization.

Not long after, they left the area and back to Gen's headquarters in the eastern side of Tokyo Bay. But along the way, Reina finally reveals to Mara and Martha his past actions on Gen and why he did that. Then, Mara and Martha were shocked to hear that and couldn't believe that their own friend would do that.

 "Is that true?" Mara asked.

Reina then nodded while feeling guilty.

"That's the thing he hasn't recovered from yet," added one of Nato's squad members.

Reina was sitting next to Mara and Martha while looking down from guilt.

Then, the twins looked at him.

"We didn't you're capable of doing that," Martha said to him.

"Yeah…" Reina responded back, "…I'm sorry, guys. I failed you."

"Please consider his feelings as his friends," Nato said to Mara and Martha. "He's trying his best to atone for his sins."

Mara and Martha then understood that, not wanting to leave their friend behind just because he did something wrong like that.

Not long after, they arrived at Gen's headquarters, and the squad vehicle entered into the gated property. Then, it parked somewhere near another building, and once someone opened the doors, everyone in the back stood up and got off. Mara and Martha were a bit astonished to see their new place to live for now. Reina then came to them and said, "Yes, this is it."

He remained positive to try to cover his guilt-ridden self.

"Oh, okay," Mara replied as she glanced at him.

She and Martha only had backpacks and baseball bats as their only weapons.

Reina then looked at the main entrance to the main building and felt as if his stomach was sickened by it.

His guilt again threatened to manifest in front of his friends.

But Reina managed to resist his inner demons of guilt and regret while Gen and Arashi came to them.
