Chapter 8 - Dreams do come true!

Thud!

Lucius Volstad dropped the letter on the table.

He looked at Andrew with a smile on his face. "Take it and read".

Andrew was a bit skeptical at first, but he still took the letter and read through it. Once he finished reading through it, his face changed.

Lucius Volstad looked at him. "What do you think?"

As soon as the boss asked this question, Andrew opened his mouth to answer but he paused. He paused because he just remembered his system.

Precisely, he just remembered his first simulation.

And then Andrew opened his mouth again. "Boss, I don't think the Sergeant is omniscient, he cannot be right all the time".

"I know that my current combat skills are not up to par but you have to know that I suffered such a traumatic experience".

"Surviving it alone is already a testament to my astounding willpower".

His eyes gleamed as he stared at the boss. "I believe I can improve".

"And with an even better neural aptitude now, I believe I can regain my combat skills enough to even eclipse my previous peak".

Lucius Volstad just stared at Andrew, surprised.

During the course of the past 6 months, paying so much attention to him through different means, Lucius already learned of Andrew's great love and fascination for mechs.

He was not like a veteran policeman with so much experience with mechs, rather he felt more like a teen who just met mechs for the first time and was overwhelmed by the ensuing exciting mech fever.

That raw and pure excitement, Lucius was fascinated by it.

Learning this truth about his test subject was why Lucius got the courage to present the conundrum of the letter to him in such a way, but even Lucius never expected Andrew to be so straightforward.

He just stared at Andrew, surprised. "So, you're saying?"

"I'm saying that I'm ready to pilot a real mech".

"Of course, I will be rusty, but I'll get the grasp of it again in no time and this time, I promise that my improvement rate will surprise even you".

"That's bold," Lucius Volstad smiled. "But I love it".

He stood up the next moment to leave.

"Boss, your decision?"

Lucius Volstad turned to smile at him one last time. "I've yet to make a decision. Latest tomorrow morning, I'll tell you my decision".

Andrew smiled and stood up to shake his arm. "I hope to hear good news in a few dozen hours' time".

As soon as the boss left, Andrew jumped into his bed and for minutes, the only things going through his head was his experience in the simulated world of his ultimate simulation system.

Of course, apart from the critical and harsh evaluation of his so-called teacher, the experience was completely exciting to him.

Of course, through the course of 30 minutes, the enemy mech scrapped his mech more than 15 times but with each subsequent time, he felt that he got slightly better at it.

'That feeling,' he clenched his fists. 'I want to experience it in real life!'

He could not wait to hear the decision of the boss.

And for the rest of the day, apart from sleeping, waking up and then going about his daily activities of working with the mech technicians, Andrew spent most of the time thinking about his system.

Ultimate simulation system…, what was its limits?

Was the system only capable of simulating combat situations?

Was the system only capable of simulating mech combat?

It didn't say ultimate mech simulation system, but ultimate simulation system instead which likely meant the system was capable of more; so many things went through Andrew's mind through the day.

Besides, was the system capable of simulating everyday events?

Andrew had so many questions in his mind at this moment, but the only way to get his answers was through active simulation.

Unfortunately for him, he already used his only simulation ticket for the day. And this brought the question, how to get more?

To answer his questions, Andrew needed to experiment with his system and to experiment, he needed more tickets.

Now, thinking back, to get more tickets, he likely needed to upgrade the system to level 2.

And yet, the requirement to level up the system was locked.

"Hey! Andrew, something on your mind?"

"Ah! Nothing, why did you ask?"

This mech technician chuckled as he looked at him. "You've been fidgeting with that spanner for over a minute instead of tightening the nut".

"Oh, I forgot". Andrew scratched his head.

"What are you thinking of? A girl?"

"…"

"Tell me, I promise I won't tell anyone, is it Chloe?"

"Get lost!"

The mech technician laughed.

Later in the day, Sergeant Theodore had a public interview.

"Sergeant, what is your decision regarding the human robot police? The public wants to know if a robot has the qualifications to remain a police".

"Has he been reinstated into the police force?"

"Sergeant, is it true that Mech Pilot Andrew will receive a promotion?"

The Sergeant faced the reporters. "First, I want you to know that Mech Pilot Andrew is a bonafide certified policeman of the Philadelphus police and not some human robot police like you call him".

"Secondly, Andrew is no robot, he is still very much a human".

"Thirdly, once Mech Pilot Andrew makes it back into the police force, yes, a promotion has been sequenced for him".

"Does that mean he is not back in the police force yet?"

"Yes," Sergeant Theodore stared at this reporter. "Due to certain complications, Mech Pilot Andrew is not back in active service in the police force yet".

"When he is back, the public will be duly notified, thank you".

"Sergeant, Sergeant, wait, please Sergeant…"

Despite the desperate calls of the reporters, Sergeant Theodore no longer stayed as with a swagger in his steps, he walked out on them.

The publicity around Andrew these days was through the roof.

It was inevitable since he was the first human in the Vemido Kingdom to become half human, half robot and was not spurned by the government since cybernetic modifications was banned in the Vemido Kingdom.

Andrew had a pretty eventful day.

Going to sleep, he had a lot on his mind which kept him up late. But the next morning, waking up, Andrew woke up to good news.

"Congrats Andrew, I granted your wish".

"Meet me in the hangar by 9:00am, let's have you in a real mech for the first time in 6 months".

"Hope you'll do great".

"…"

"…"

"…..!"

Andrew stared with eyes widened with surprise and ecstasy, then he roared. "Dreams do come true!"
