As dawn's gentle light filtered through the curtains, Eisley awoke to find herself alone in the bed. The sheets were cool to the touch, a clear indication that Irwin had gone some time ago. With a sigh, she pushed the quilt aside and rose from the bed, feeling the chill of the morning air against her skin.
Eisley reached for her white bathrobe, wrapped it snugly around her body and made her way to the living room. As she entered, the sound of a high-pitched bark greeted her, and Buddy, her energetic came bounding towards her.
Eisley crouched down, her arms wide open. "Oh, Mrs. Kent, good morning," Grace greeted her with a sheepish smile, her eyes twinkling with curiosity. "Did you have a lovely night?"
Eisley gave Grace a once-over, her eyes narrowing slightly. "What?" she asked, her tone a mix of suspicion and amusement.
Before Grace could respond, Eisley interjected, "Oh, have you seen Irwin?"
