Chapter 8 - Hunting Mission (Part 1)

Previous Chapter

Suddenly, Andrian realized that it was already getting dark, as he had been so focused on his magic training all this time.

Andrian decided to end his training session for today. He would continue his training tomorrow.

Also, he might plan to hunt animals and fish in the forest for his food stock. Since Andrian can now use magic, he no longer needs to fear the dangers of the forest. However, this doesn't mean he lets his guard down. No matter how strong Andrian is now, it wouldn't matter if he lost his life due to carelessness.

[ DING!

New Mission Available!]

This morning, Andrian woke up after hearing a notification from the System. He stretched and checked the notification from the System.

[ Mission: It's Time To Hunt

Description: Hunt Wild Magical Beasts in the Forest of Life

Status: 0/5 (Not Complete)

Reward: Upgrade Point +1, Skill - Hunting (Beginner)

Completion Time: 1 Day.]

'Oh? A mission to hunt Wild Magical Beasts? System, what are Wild Magical Beasts?' Andrian thought, asking the System.

[ Answer: Wild Magical Beasts are beasts that can use magic in this world. They are usually very aggressive and can be dangerous to ordinary people. There are many types of these beasts, ranging from giant lizards that can breathe fire, bulls with earth magic powers, snakes with poisonous breath, and many more.

These Wild Magical Beasts are commonly referred to as "Magical Beasts" and can be found abundantly in the Forest of Life.

Parts of these wild beasts are very useful and can be used as valuable materials. For example:

Green Bull: A large, green bull with long horns that can use Nature Magic, such as growing roots from the ground. Its horns can be used as materials to craft magical items for summoning the beast, its hide can be made into Grimoire covers for using nature magic, and its meat can restore Mana and Stamina.

Dark Crow: This bird resembles a common crow but has a strong dark magical aura. It can use Dark Magic with illusion effects of death and often attacks in flocks. The feathers of this crow can be used to summon a Dark Crow, its wings can be used by alchemists to create Illusion Potions, its eyes can be used in magical tools to cast illusion spells, and its meat grants immunity to illusion magic.

Fire Big Lizard: This large lizard has Dragon blood. Its body is huge, and it can breathe fire when threatened. It has red, fire-like skin with heat as intense as fire. The skin can be made into magical items like wands and Grimoires, its tail can be used for summoning, and its meat grants fire immunity when eaten.

There are many more, but you can discover them while hunting. I will provide information on the target beasts you encounter to prevent you from getting caught in dangerous situations.]

Andrian nodded after hearing the System's explanation. Now he understood the dangers and the uses of these wild beasts.

Each of these wild beasts has its own characteristics, threats, and functions.

A few moments later, Andrian got up and hurried to the river to clean himself. He also didn't forget to check the fish traps he had set the other day. After that, he returned to his hut to have breakfast with the fish he caught in the traps and some fruits he had.

After breakfast, Andrian prepared himself for the hunt. He brought a long vine that he wrapped around his body. Then he made several spears to use as his main weapons for defeating the wild beasts. With these spears, he could channel the magic energy he had learned previously to create deadly attacks using the spears.

Before heading out for the hunt, Andrian did some warm-up exercises to ensure his body wouldn't cramp or stiffen during the hunt. If that happened, the danger would be fatal and could potentially lead to Andrian's downfall.

After finishing his warm-up exercises, he was finally ready to hunt. This time, he was very excited about his mission because not only would he receive rewards from the System, but he would also gain many benefits from the animals he hunted.

----

Andrian walked north from his hut, exploring the area. Earlier, he had asked the System where the wild beasts gathered, and the System had provided him with directions.

This time, he was attempting to hunt a deer. However, it was not just an ordinary deer. It was a Magical Beast that could use Ice Magic from its antlers.

The name of this deer was "Frozen Deer," a deer capable of using ice magic through its antlers to freeze its enemies or threats. The distinguishing characteristic of this deer was that, like a regular deer, it had light blue fur and emitted a cold, light blue aura.

Many parts of this deer could be harvested and had various effects. For example, its antlers could be used as an item to summon a Frozen Deer or as a material to craft ice magic wands. Its hide could be made into clothing that provided immunity to ice magic or cold temperatures. Lastly, its meat, when consumed, would grant permanent immunity to cold temperatures.

That was why Andrian decided to hunt this animal first. Despite the danger level of this beast being relatively low compared to other creatures, the benefits he could gain from the Frozen Deer made it a worthwhile target.

After a while, Andrian finally spotted the deer. He noticed that the area around the deer was frozen due to the extremely cold temperature emitted by the animal.

Andrian analyzed the deer before deciding to ambush it. The movements of the Frozen Deer were identical to those of a regular deer. The Frozen Deer was agile and had good reflexes.

Andrian had a solid plan to attack the deer. He intended to use a surprise attack with fire magic and his spear. Since ice is very weak against fire, he decided to use fire magic to attack the deer.

He quietly crept behind the Frozen Deer, keeping a distance of about 20 meters from it. This location was a blind spot for the Frozen Deer, allowing Andrian to launch a surprise attack without being noticed by the animal. Once his attack hit, the target would never realize when it was struck.

Andrian took one of the spears he had made earlier, focused the flow of mana into his palm gripping the spear, and channeled that mana into the spear. He then envisioned the spear being enveloped in fire, forming a fiery spear with intense heat capable of burning anything it touched. By augmenting it with wind magic to increase the spear's speed, Andrian created a new magic spell he named "Flaming Spear Projectile."

A few moments later, after successfully conjuring the fire magic, he threw the spear directly at the Frozen Deer, which was eating some fruits.

Boom!!

Jlebb!

The flaming spear hit its target, piercing the body of the Frozen Deer. The deer fell dead immediately after being struck by Andrian's spear, which used fire magic—a counter to the deer's passive ice magic.

Andrian quickly moved towardtoward his slain prey. He then sat in front of the dead Deer and placed his hand together, signaling that he was prayingpraying. He closed his eyes and offered a prayer to the wild as a gesture of gratitude and an apology for killing the Deer.

After completing his prayer, Andrian began to harvest th important part of the Frozen Deer, such as the antlers, hide, and meat.

Afterward, Andrian gathered the harvested parts and stored them in a box he had made as a temporary container for his spoils.

He then continued his hunt for other Magical Beasts in the forest.

"System, give me the directions to the next Magical Beast. Make sure this one has a slightly higher danger level than the Frozen Deer," Andrian instructed the System.

[Understood, Host!]

A hologram appeared in front of Andrian, displaying a map of a small section of the Forest of Life.

On the map, there were points indicating the presence of living creatures. Each point had a distinct color representing different attributes.

First, green points indicated creatures that were harmless and easy to tame.

Second, yellow points represented creatures that were generally neutral if left alone but would defend themselves or retaliate if threatened.

Third, red points signified aggressive creatures that would attack on sight without provocation.

[Host, I recommend you hunt the creature known as the Green Bull. The danger level of this beast is not much higher than the Frozen Deer, though it is slightly more formidable. Additionally, you already understand the key information about the Green Bull.]

Andrian nodded in agreement with the System's explanation. "Yes, System. I'll follow your advice this time. Besides, what you said makes sense," he replied.

Andrian then headed to the usual spawning area of the Green Bull.

Upon reflection, fire magic would indeed be very effective in disabling the Green Bull, which has passive nature magic capable of growing plants like roots. Andrian felt pleased and fortunate for having studied fire magic the previous day, gaining detailed knowledge of its function and mechanics to the point where he could create a new spell just by thinking about it, without needing to utter the incantation aloud.
