Chapter 6 - Director's Origin

"escape...?"

Yuto looked at the director trying to form any type of word that could escape his mouth

"Do you wish to leave, Yuto?"

"Director honestly I think getting a look at the outside world is something I wished for many years but knowing the dangers, going alone wouldn't be a safe thing to do"

"Worrying about safety that's a first for you Yuto"

"It is... Will you accompany me if I do decide to see the outside world?"

"Yuto, I'm the director of many children at an orphanage, I can't afford to leave them alone"

The director made his point clear that he wouldn't leave the camp with Yuto, The responsibility of the director outweighs the benefits of leaving, all the children rely on him alone and he knows that.

"Yuto let me tell you a story"

"What story?"

"About my journey before getting to the camp, I will at least be useful by giving you some advice and tricks to survive the camp if you do get out of the camp, of course, I'm not saying you should but I can't stop the youth of a person if you know what I mean"

Yuto grinned at the director

"Let me begin, I'm originally from China, the place you want to visit because of the Great Wall, Life was advanced, we had jobs as we do now but we worked on a cash system where we got currency in a paper, we could spend it on cars, planes, food and entertainment"

Yuto gazes at the director in astonishment at the life the director lived

"I went into the military, It was very honourable to serve my country and fight for what we value and where we could defend our families"Yuto's only example of the military is what is at the camp, he doesn't know of armies or all the other equipment they had, It was like the director and Yuto were on different pages together.

"Anyway once the shadows started arriving we got deployed to fight them and end them at any cost but since they were otherworld creatures that seemed to be not possible to kill back then but little did we know they were just normal human beings who were corrupted, most importantly we had no idea of knowing that one injury could cause the shadow to spread from person to another, Slowly we brought back wounded soldiers and later that night they turned into monsters which wiped out an entire camp in one night"

Yuto feels shivers going up his spine as the director describes the horrid scenes which occurred during the barracks and other locations

"The worst part of it all was when they all started to attack civilians and the shadow corruption became so widespread that we became overloaded with killing our people that we swore to protect, Me and many others left the military and went separate ways to try to find something close to home, avoiding shadows and collecting supplies by any means necessary"

"Director, so how do you avoid or kill shadows and what can I do to survive outside?"

"They mostly patrol around the night, so make sure to travel during the day and camp during the night, you can't forward to be running in the middle of the night, they are faster and stronger than you"

Yuto gets a notepad lying around in the library to start writing it, his face filled with determination to get everything written down on the notepad and hopefully, buy himself an easier time outside the walls.

"Another good piece of advice is that you should make sure to avoid one one-on-one duel with a shadow as you are most likely going to die without even getting a single hit, always make sure to have someone with you if you are forced to fight one, and never fight one on purpose, They like hiding in dark areas where they aren't seen as much so make sure to never approaching a dark corner with getting a flashlight to scan it first"

Yuto listens closely and notices a common trend, have someone with you and avoid the shadows, he will have to get someone else to go with him but leaving the camp is a hard decision not many would be willing to do as they could be put to death.

"Now you noticed right? you will need someone with you, I have a great option for you and it might be the only person you could rely on in such harsh environments, remember that people will betray you so make sure you get someone you know won't even think about it"

"Director but who will be willing to go out with me anyway?"

"I will"

Both the director and Yuto turn towards the staircase to see a young boy standing there, Kenzo stands there with a wide smile thinking he will be selected as the next person fit to get out, the director can't retaliate against Kenzo's decision as he indeed was the next best pick for Yuto.

"Kenzo? Are you sure you want to go with Yuto even if it costs both of your lives?"

The director asked Kenzo again to make sure this is what he wants

"Yes Sir, I wanted to explore the outside world since I was small and now since I have a chance to do that, I won't let it slip by, I heard all the things you were telling Yuto so no need to say it again, Yuto has it written anyway"

"Kenzo but are you going to trust me with your life if it depends on it despite the fact that even at the alleyway I declined your help?"

"You know that I will, despite our differences we have been talking to each other for a very long time basically since birth"

"Fine, you win this time Kenzo"

They all stare at each other and decide that it's time to finally discuss the options of escape they can do. Their plan will be set in motion very soon in one way or another.
