"Spread, devour, corrupt"
"Are you alright old man?"
"Ya I'm fine"
The two men start travelling with the carriage with both of them taking turns pushing it while the other is on the lookout to see if anyone or anything is approaching the carriage
"So what is an old man like you doing all alone anyway? wouldn't you be better off living in places like Camp Sulga or Camp Northa"
"Let me tell you something funny, I'm originally from camp Ertha but spent the majority of my life raised at a foster family in camp Northa, it was easier to travel back then before the monsters completely took over the surface, anyway travelling to Sulga because I will be honest with you about the fact I don't have many years left in me"
"Is this carriage part of the reason you are going there, tons of humanitarian supplies and rations worth weeks for multiple families"
"I heard there was an orphanage located in Camp Sulga so me being raised by a foster family, I thought it would be nice to use up the supplies I have to further spread the good deeds passed to me down to the younger generations, my friend had contact not too long ago with the owner of the director of the orphanage, he was a very ambitious young man from what I heard"
"You remind me that there are people always trying to do the right things despite this world being turned into such a desolate place of corruption and greed"
The two gentlemen continue travelling with around 20 minutes left until reaching the gate of camp Sulga, they have bonded fairly well in their short time together. The old man's voice seems distorted and a bit weak from the amount of talking these two people have done so far
"What's bringing you to camp Sulga anyway, it doesn't seem like you need to go there"
"Honestly I'm kinda just a lost cause, I don't have a place to call home, Northa and Ertha haven't been accepting visitors lately and since I'm here might as well Sulga, once I arrive I would want to start a family together with a woman that loves me the way I love her"
"A bit of a romantic are we now?"
The old man smirked as he felt the youth of his past times enter his memory and flash before him in a mere second, it was an almost perfect feeling which hasn't entered him for a long time
"mhm argh"
The old man coughs a bit exhausted from pushing the carriage and asks the man to take over
"It's fine old man, let me get us the rest of the way, just answer one thing for me, what is your name?"
"I'm Corvin Toller"
"I'm Bently lang"
The two men exchange a smile knowing they might have built a friendship spanning until death, they are mere moments away from the camp and would need to separate for admission, testing, interviews, searches and whatever else the border patrol needs to do which ensures the safety of the people already inside
"Well Bently, It was a nice journey to have with you, Having a normal conversation with someone like this is refreshing after being on the road for multiple weeks"
"Well you definitely sound tired enough to be travelling for weeks, grab a drink of water, your voice is surely getting more coarse"
"Alright give me a second"
Before being able to grab a drink of water, they spot a flashlight from the border patrol officers sitting on the top of the wall, they both instantly freeze in the sight of the soldiers to not avoid any trouble which may arrive from a night arrival to the camp
"We come in peace! We are full of supplies and just wish for a safe place to stay! I'm Bently Lang and this is Corvin Toller! You may search and do whatever is necessary to let us in!"
Bently shouted at the top of his lungs to make sure the guards were aware of the intentions and at least get an attempt to enter camp Sulga, two guard enter the gate with their weapons drawn to welcome the men to the admission stage, inside the admission room there were guards with guns on standby to make sure these two aren't raiders or bandits from beyond the wall
"You two, if you have any sort of items or objects, remove them right now for inspection, take off jackets and hats to avoid any smuggled items"
Bently does as the officer instructs but Corvin is seen struggling to take off due to him looking way more unwell and darker in colour
"Sir please do what I asked you to"
The officer says the same order to make sure he wasn't misheard or misunderstood by the old man, this time he complies and takes off his jacket and hat to reveal the biggest mistake of their lives
"TERMINATE HIM NOW"
The soldiers start firing at the old man with multiple different weaponry to try get him to die as soon as possible, the bullets were very effective at provoking the man and finally letting loose
"Spread, Devour, Corrupt"
The man starts leaping on top of the soldiers inside the admission room, sustaining a lot of damage in the process but ripping a soldier into sherds, The man falls from the gunfire and gets ready to die while looking at Bently
"This Is ThE BeGInNing"
The soldier who got ripped stands back up, a ominous aura surrounding his presence, his arms and legs moving in ways a human would never imagine, fixating himself back into a grounded position he leaps on another soldier ripping him to shreds, the guards shoot fire at the soldier but the armour helps him tank a bit of the bullets
"YOU GRUNT GET TO THE RADIO RIGHT NOW AND REPORT TO THE HQ"
"YES SIR"
Distress sets upon the room and especially upon Bently who just saw his friend devour a soldier and then die right in front of him, he and the remaining two of the original 5 guards escape with Corvin inside of the walls to avoid any other death occurring,
"Please stand behind us sir while we deal with this situation"
Bently stood behind the two guards who aimed at the window looking into the admission room, ready to open fire at any of those beings inside which may get out by smashing the window,
*thud* *shatter*
The glass broke down in front of the two soldiers and Bently which was their last chance to avoid a painful and suffering death
