The director was going through a lot right at this moment, his entire world collapsed as the children and their homes were now gone and burned to a crisp, he didn't know what to do for the future, just him, two older boys and a young girl in a library hiding away from the depths of death.
'What do I do, end it all here...? NO, I cant, these kids that are relying on me won't know what to do, but I already killed two of them upstairs'
Thoughts spinning inside his head, having no idea how to respond to the children waiting for him to say something, the silence furthers until Kenzo breaks the dreading atmosphere.
"Hey, you! little girl, what's your name?"
The little girl from the orphanage looks up at Kenzo as she is still waiting for her friend to wake up. She doesn't know the concept of death yet it seems to be as if he just sleeping with her.Maya, still lost in the innocence of her young mind, whispered timidly.
"I'm... Maya"
The little girl is scared as she steps back from Kenzo's presence which is filled with a dominating aura among all the survivors, Kenzo backs away after seeing the little girl get scared letting Yuto step in and approach her to try and understand who she is.
"I'm Yuto, nice to meet you, Maya"
A wide genuine smile appears on Yuto's face, Maya being a kid sees Yuto's expression and seems less reluctant to approach the two boys but slightly leaning towards where Yuto is standing.
"Well Maya let me ask you something, do you understand what's happening?"
With wide eyes, Maya shook her head, oblivious to the horrors surrounding them.
"Well we got attacked by a huge evil monster, they don't like us humans want to defeat us, so we have to just avoid them and stay close to each other so they don't try anything evil!"
Yuto tried his best to explain it in a child's dictionary so that even Maya could understand what he was trying to warn her about
"MONSTER? we can't be caught!"
Maya has a wide huge smile on her face getting ready to avoid everything at all costs
"Good job, Maya you understand the dangers of what will happen soon, so make sure to stay close to the director or me, but for now just stay close to me"
Yuto is taking consideration of the Directors well well-being as him having another child on his shoulder would be too much of a weight on him and might cause a whole collapse of the director, Yuto is gaining a self-image of being an older brother now and he certainly is up for the challenge of protecting Maya to the next camp they will take shelter in.
'Since my dream is reality, I remember the men talking about Camp North, that's where we should head, Camp Ertha might be closer but we have no idea how west it is, technically if we go up that would mean after some time we should 100% reach the next safe camp'
"Alright-"
"We're going camp Northa, we set out tomorrow, Kenzo and Yuto you will both take care of Maya and I will carry the supplies, it will take us at least a week before reaching there"
Yuto was interrupted by the director who laid out the plan of what they will be doing to survive the chaos they got themselves into, looking over at his face it was clear that it wasn't going to be a fun adventure, the defeat from his face has already been set, the mood wont lighten up for a long time after this shadow incident.
"WHY CAN'T WE GO ERTHA"
Kenzo whines about the long journey but the director gives the same reason Yuto had, they start packing up all their food and water supplies into a nice pile so it's organised, there should be a school bag from the kids up above to pack all their supplies into, one of them will have to take the journey.
"I will get the backpack, so you kids stay down here and wait for me to come back, if I knock four times on the plank that's when you open it for me, if you hear anything else, do not for any reason open the door"
All the kids nod in agreement on the fact that they will listen to the director word for word and not open it for any other sound, the director and Yuto both ascend the stairs and slightly scout out the area from a peek of the floorboard and then when seeing nothing in sight, the director jumps out and runs off while Yuto closes the board.
"Kenzo you keep watch of Maya while I wait at the plank"
"Ya Ya if only you knew this job is way harder"
"Oh, you really wanna switch...?"
"YOU KNOW WHAT YES I DO"
Kenzo switches jobs with Yuto as he takes care of Maya and Kenzo stands guard for the director to come back, there being almost no entertainment at all for the three children is a painful sight to behold as they all try to imagine ways to entertain themselves.
"I'm back, come out already"
The sound of the director's voice fills Kenzo's ears as he has heard it thousands of different times, in anticipation Kenzo is opening the plank to the outside.
"KENZO DON'T"
Yuto's screams don't reach his ears in time as the planks are already lifted, Kenzo stares up at what he could only imagine was a shadow, fear washes over his spine as he was expecting the director to be waiting yet he got greeted with death instead, Yuto grabbed a book and start running up the stairs as Kenzo just watches and becomes frozen in time.
"ARGH"
A scream was heard from the shadow as there was a figure behind it, then the shadow being struck in the back plenty of times with a sharp object which most presumably was a knife of some sort, Yuto still ran up the stairs and pushed Kenzo down to the bottom of the library, with the distractions out, Yuto also uses his book to hit the shadow with whoever was helping them from behind, after the relentless onslaught of attacks and determination the shadow started losing its life force causing it to vanish into thin air.
