Chapter 39 - The Shadow Unleashed

Kai bid Mike farewell, getting into his car as he pondered his next move. "Time to investigate," he thought, deciding to pay Mister Reginald a visit.

Upon arriving at Mister Reginald's villa, Kai was greeted by familiar security guards. "I'd like to speak with Mister Reginald, please," he requested.

Mister Reginald emerged, his warm smile a welcome respite. "Kai, it's been too long! Three days is an eternity for us, considering our partnership."

Kai chuckled. "You're right, Mister Reginald. I'm here about a pressing matter."

Mister Reginald's expression turned serious. "What's troubling you, Kai? Share your concerns."

Kai's voice took on a determined tone. "My mother's workplace was set ablaze, and my friend was robbed. I discovered a disturbing connection."

Mister Reginald's eyes locked onto Kai's. "Tell me more."

Kai continued, "During my research in the library, I uncovered evidence linking Mister Baxter to both incidents."

Mister Reginald's face darkened. "Baxter? I know him through Baxter Realty, one of my companies."

Kai's eyes narrowed. "What's your relationship with him, Mister Reginald?"

Mister Reginald's eyes narrowed. "I know Mister Baxter through Baxter Realty, one of my companies."

Kai's expression turned grim. "He almost killed my mom and friend. What do you think we should do with him?"

Mister Reginald's voice took on a calculating tone. "What do you propose, Kai?"

Kai's eyes gleamed with determination. "First, make Baxter Realty go bankrupt. Within three days."

Mister Reginald raised an eyebrow. "And your next step, Kai?"

Kai's smile was enigmatic. "Leave that to me. Just make sure Baxter Realty is bankrupt in three days."

Mister Reginald nodded. "Consider it done. Does he have any other companies?"

Kai's eyes locked onto Mister Reginald's. "Yes, he does. What are they?"

Mister Reginald's expression turned thoughtful. "He has another company, Baxter Auto Parts."

Kai's jaw clenched. "Make that one bankrupt too."

Mister Reginald nodded. "As you wish, Kai. Anything for my business partner."

As they parted ways, Mister Reginald asked, "How's your father doing, Kai?"

Kai's expression softened. "He's doing well, thank you. Still recovering in the hospital."

Mister Reginald nodded. "Please send him my greetings."

Their meeting concluded, Kai departed, already planning his next move. "Time for phase two," he thought, a determined glint in his eye.

Kai arrived at the warehouse where his car was being held. The building loomed before him, a nondescript structure with faded signage. As he entered, the dimly lit interior revealed rows of parked cars, the air thick with the scent of gasoline and grease.

Two guards blocked his path, their faces a mixture of amusement and hostility. "What are you doing here, kid?" one of them sneered.

Kai's expression remained calm. "I'm here to collect my car."

The guards laughed, their eyes mocking. "Oh, look at you! You think you can just waltz in here and demand your car?"

Kai's gaze never wavered. He walked past the guards, who tried to grab him. But their bodies stiffened, unable to move. Kai's eyes seemed to bore into them, his voice low and commanding. "Faint."

The guards crumpled to the ground, unconscious. Kai stepped over them, his eyes scanning the warehouse for his car.

As Kai stood his ground, a group of men emerged from the shadows. One wielded a bat, another a gun, and a third a knife. The others stood by, their faces twisted with malicious intent.

Kai's eyes narrowed. "So, you were expecting me. Thought you could ambush me, huh?" He smiled, a fierce glint in his eye. "I can handle this."

Kai's gaze swept the warehouse, locking onto his prized Mercedes Benz S-Class. "Hey, guys! I'm here for my car. Mind handing it over?"

The men laughed, a burly individual stepping forward with a gun. "What's your name, boy? What makes you think you can just waltz in here and demand your car?"

Kai's expression remained calm. "I already told you. I'm here for my Mercedes Benz S-Class."

The man sneered, his thick beard bristling with contempt. "Ha! You think you're tough, huh? Look at me, boy!" He flexed his massive arms, his biceps bulging like melons.

Kai's gaze flicked over the man, his eyes lingering on the gun. "There's nothing special about you. Just step aside, and I'll take my car."

The man snarled, his face reddening. "You think this car is yours? Ha! We were going to burn it to ashes!"

Kai's smile grew wider. "No, you're not going to do that. You're going to give it to me, and we're going to settle this."

The men laughed, their jeers echoing off the warehouse walls. "Ha! You think you can take us down, boy? What makes you so sure?"

Kai's eyes flashed with determination. "Because I'm going to beat you up, and you're going to give me my car."

The leader, Bruno, chuckled. "Alright, boy. You want to play tough? Let's see how you fare against my man, Victor."

Victor, a towering figure with a knife, lunged at Kai. But Kai was ready. With a swift sidestep, he kicked Victor's hand, sending the knife clattering to the ground.

The men gasped as Kai landed a precise two-finger strike to Victor's chest. Victor stumbled backward, crashing to the ground unconscious.

The warehouse fell silent, the men staring at Kai in shock. Bruno's eyes narrowed. "Seems like we underestimated you, boy. You're tougher than you look."

Kai's smile grew wider, his eyes glinting with a fierce light. "You have no idea what I'm capable of."

Bruno, the leader, sneered at Kai. "You three, take care of him. Make it quick."

The three men charged at Kai, but he was a blur of motion. With swift, powerful kicks, he took down the first man, sending him crashing to the ground. The second man attempted to swing a punch, but Kai dodged it with ease, countering with a lightning-fast kick that sent the man flying into a stack of crates. The third man tried to tackle Kai, but he sidestepped the attack, using the man's momentum against him. With a swift jab, Kai sent the man stumbling backward, unconscious.

The entire fight lasted mere seconds, leaving Bruno and his men stunned.

Kai turned to Bruno, a confident smirk on his face. "Is that all you got?"

Bruno's eyes widened, his face pale. "How...how could you?"

Kai chuckled. "I told you before, I'm going to beat you up, and we'll settle this. Now, are you going to give me my car, or do I need to demonstrate my skills again?"

Bruno's expression twisted with rage. "You might have taken down my men, but can you dodge this?" He pulled out a gun and fired three shots.

The sound of gunfire echoed through the warehouse: Bang! Bang! Bang!

Kai stood unmoving, a hint of a smile on his face. The bullets seemed to pass right through him, leaving him unscathed.

Bruno's eyes went wide with shock. "How...how could you stand there?!"

As Kai stood there, his body seemed to vibrate, like his flesh was shifting and flowing like a liquid. The bullets had passed through him, leaving no mark, no wound.

Kai's smile grew wider. "Seems your gun bullets are too slow."

Bruno's face paled, his mind reeling. "What are you? You're not human!"

Kai chuckled. "Let's just say I have a few tricks up my sleeve. This one's called...The Phase."

With a swift motion, Kai vanished, only to reappear a few feet away, his eyes glinting with amusement.

Bruno stumbled backward, his gun slipping from his grasp. "What...what have I just seen?"

Bruno stood frozen, his eyes wide with fear as he stared at Kai. He had never seen anything like this before. What kind of powers did this boy possess?

"What have I gotten myself into?" Bruno thought, his mind racing with panic. "Mister Baxter, what have you gotten me into?"

Kai stepped forward, his aura pouring out like a palpable force. Bruno felt the weight of it bearing down on him, like a mountain crushing him. He stumbled, his knees buckling beneath him.

Kai's gaze locked onto Bruno, his eyes burning with an inner fire. He reached out with his mind, pouring an illusion over Bruno like a dark shroud.

Bruno screamed, his voice echoing through the warehouse. "What is this? Where am I?"

Kai's voice was the only sound Bruno could hear, echoing in his mind. "You will spend an eternity in darkness. You will never escape."

Bruno's screams grew louder, more desperate. "No, no, no! Get me out of here! I'll never commit a crime again!"

Kai's response was cold, unyielding. "You will spend an eternity."

As Bruno remained trapped in the illusion, Kai turned his attention to the car. He inspected it, checking for any damage or hidden tracking devices. Satisfied, he got into the car and started the engine.

He pulled up beside Bruno, who was still kneeling on the ground, trapped in the illusion. "Come out now," Kai said, his voice firm but gentle.

Bruno's eyes snapped open, and he stumbled to his feet. He looked around, disoriented, before his gaze locked onto Kai.

"Who are you?" Bruno asked, his voice shaking with fear.

Kai's smile was enigmatic. "No need to know me. Just remember, next time I see you, I don't want to see you involved in anything illegal."

Bruno nodded fervently, still looking fearful. "Yes, yes, I'll never do it again."

Kai nodded, seeming to accept Bruno's promise. He got into the car and drove away, leaving Bruno shaken but alive.

As Kai drove, he pulled out his phone and dialed a number. "Yo, Mike. I got your car. Come and pick it up."

Mike arrived soon after, his eyes widening in surprise as he saw his car. "Yo, bro! You really did it! You got my car!"

Kai smiled, his eyes glinting with amusement. "Told you I would."

As Mike got into his car, Kai began to inspect it, searching for any hidden tracking devices or bombs. He worked quickly, his hands moving with a precision that belied his age.

Finally, satisfied that the car was clean, Kai stepped back, a nod of approval on his face. "All clear, Mike. You're good to go."
