As the bell rang, Kai, Emily, and Mike exchanged quick goodbyes before heading to their respective classes.
Kai sprinted down the hallway, his sneakers squeaking on the polished floor. Suddenly, a girl's feet flew out from under her, and she hurtled toward the ground.
In a flash, Kai lunged forward, his reflexes on high alert. He stretched out his arms, cradling the girl's fall. Time seemed to slow as their bodies aligned, Kai's hands wrapping around her waist.
Together, they paused mid-air, inches from disaster. Kai's grip tightened, and he gently guided her back to her feet.
The girl's wide eyes met his, her face flushing. "Uh, yes...I'm fine."
Kai's hands lingered on her waist, feeling an inexplicable connection.
"What just happened?" Kai wondered, perplexed by the intense sensations.
Releasing her, Kai smiled. "You almost took a tumble there."
Melissa's cheeks deepened in color. "Thanks for catching me."
As they stood up, Kai's hand still enveloped hers. "I'm Kai."
Melissa's voice was barely above a whisper. "I'm Melissa."
Their eyes held for a moment longer than necessary, the air thick with an unspoken understanding.
As Kai held Melissa, he felt an intense connection. Her rapid heartbeat, blood flow, and nervous energy coursed through him as if he were experiencing it himself.
They walked together briefly before parting ways, exchanging quick goodbyes.
Kai headed to his biology class, where he excelled, delivering insightful answers that impressed his teacher. His grasp of science and other subjects was remarkable.
The final bell rang, signaling the end of the school day. As Kai stepped outside, a sudden rush of headache hit him β like drumming in his temples.
Disoriented, Kai stood motionless. Mike approached from a distance.
"Kai, what's happening?" Mike asked, concern etched on his face.
"It's just a headache coming on," Kai replied.
Mike's eyes narrowed. "Woah, bro, are you okay?"
"Yeah, I'm fine. Just need some fresh air."
Mike guided Kai under a nearby tree. They sat together, and as Kai's back touched the trunk, a soothing calm spread through his body, rejuvenating his strength.
Kai and Mike sat under the tree, the bus arriving in the distance.
"I think you should go, bro," Kai said, struggling to stand. "I'll stay here."
Mike's expression turned concerned. "Should I call an ambulance or a teacher? You don't look alright."
"No, I'm fine," Kai reassured him. "Just go."
Mike hesitated, but Kai insisted. "Go, bro. I'll find a taxi or something."
As Mike boarded the bus, he called out, "I'm worried about you, bro. You were amazing today."
The bus departed, leaving Kai alone. He whispered to himself, "I'm not a superhero, but I can be great."
Touching the tree, Kai felt a surge of energy. "I'm alright now."
With renewed strength, Kai stood up, determined. "Things are going to change."
As he walked, he stumbled upon a girl trapped between two guys in a deserted hallway.
"Hey, lady, nice clothes and jewelry," one guy sneered. "Hand it over."
Kai intervened, firm and calm. "Stop. Don't take another step."
The guy turned, scoffing. "Who's this puny little child? Still in school, huh?"
Kai locked eyes with the girl, then faced the thugs.
The girl's gaze lingered on Kai, her expression filled with gratitude and curiosity.
"Didn't you hear me?" Kai demanded. "Stay away from her!"
The gang leader sneered. "Do you know who I am? I'm Eye Tiger, leader of the Fire Tiger gang. How dare you talk to me like that?"
Kai stood firm. "I'll talk to whomever I want, however I like."
Eye Tiger snarled, "Look at this fella, thinking he's brave. John, teach him a lesson."
John, a towering figure, approached Kai. But Kai felt an inner confidence: "He's big, but I can take him."
As John swung, Kai batted his hand away and landed a swift punch in his gut. John crumpled.
Eye Tiger shouted, "John, what's taking you so long? Beat him up!"
But Kai had already taken down John. He stood up, eyes locked on Eye Tiger. "I told you, don't take another step."
Another gang member sneered, "Let's see you beat me up!" He brandished a knife.
Kai assessed the threat. This guy was fast.
The girl screamed, "No, please don't!" as the gang member charged.
As the gang member approached Kai, trying to launch the knife, Kai disappeared.
But what did he know? Kai jumped in the air and landed at his back.
The gang member looked around, bewildered. "What? How did he...?"
Kai kicked him in the back, sending him crashing into dustbins.
As Kai approached the girl, concern etched on his face, "Are you okay, miss?"
"I'm fine," she replied, her eyes locked on Kai's.
As Kai spoke with Patience, he asked, "What's your name?"
"I'm Patience," she replied.
"Nice to meet you, Patience. I'm Kai."
Kai noticed Patience's upscale clothes and wondered how she ended up in this rough neighborhood.
"How did you end up here?" Kai asked.
Patience hesitated. "I was taking a stroll. My bodyguards lost me, and I'm trying to find my way back."
Kai's concern grew. "This isn't a safe area, especially for someone like you. We should find your bodyguards."
Together, they walked, engaging in small talk. Kai sensed Patience's secrecy, avoiding questions about her family.
Suddenly, four men in black approached, attempting to separate Patience from Kai.
Kai stood firm, ready to defend himself.
But Patience intervened, "No, don't hurt him! He's with me."
The men apologized, "Sorry, miss. We made a mistake."
Patience turned to them, "This guy saved me, and you're trying to attack him? What's going on?"
The leader explained, "We're your father's security team, miss. We've been searching for you."
Kai's eyes narrowed. Who was Patience's father, and why the secrecy?
As they walked, Kai asked Patience, "Where do you stay? I can take you home. You don't have a car, do you?"
Before she could respond, the bodyguards intervened, "This way, miss. Your father has been looking for you."
But Patience insisted, "Stop. I want to take him home. Where's the driver?"
The bodyguards exchanged hesitant glances.
Patience turned to Kai, "Tell us where you stay, and we'll take you home."
Kai nodded, "Okay, I stay in Dobsonville, not far from here."
As they walked further, Kai spotted a sleek Rolls Royce. His eyes widened, "What a Rolls Royce! I only see these in movies."
The bodyguards opened the doors, and Kai slid into the luxurious interior.
To himself, Kai thought, "She must be from a really powerful family. A Rolls Royce? Wow."
As they drove, Patience, who looked around nineteen, chatted with Kai, also nineteen.
Kai couldn't help but wonder, "I never knew anyone around here was this rich."
Patience smiled, "It's just one of my father's cars. Don't think about it too much."
Their conversation flowed easily until they reached Kai's home.
As the Rolls Royce pulled up, neighbors' eyes widened in awe.
"Whose car is that?" someone whispered.
When Kai stepped out, assisted by the bodyguards, the neighbors' jaws dropped.
"Is that...Kai? What's he doing getting out of a Rolls Royce?"
Kai smiled to himself, savoring the surreal experience.
As Patience prepared to leave, Kai asked, "Can I get your number?"
Patience smiled, handing him her phone. "I'd like that."
They exchanged contacts, and Patience's face lit up.
"We'll see each other soon. I'm very glad what you did for me today."
Kai grinned. "No problem. Take care."
The Rolls Royce drove away, leaving Kai's neighbors buzzing with curiosity.
Kai entered his house, still reeling from the day's events. "What's happening to me?" he wondered. "This is beyond superhero movies."
Determined to understand his newfound abilities, Kai changed into a gym suit and headed to the backyard.
The rough, unkempt yard transformed into a makeshift training ground. Kai gathered stones, hoops, and bricks.
"Let's try this," he said, setting up his first test.
Kai hit two bricks, shattering them into dust. "Amazing!"
He tried again with three bricks, effortlessly destroying them.
Next, Kai spotted an iron bar and struck it with his fist. The bar bent, leaving Kai stunned.
"Super strength, body resilience...what else?"
As he pondered, his dog, once barking furiously, fell silent. Their eyes locked, and the dog submitted, rolling over and crawling to Kai.
Kai's mind raced. "I can sense my dog's mind? What is this?"
Kai turned around and walked back towards his house. As he moved forward, a strong gust of wind swept through.
Instinctively, Kai raised his hand, and the wind seemed to obey, swirling around his fingers.
"Is this energy manipulation?" Kai wondered, awestruck. "Wow, this can't be. I have super strength, body resilience, and now energy manipulation?"
Then Kai stood up, channeled his energy throughout his body, and jumped, combining his energy manipulation with his leap, defying gravity as he hovered in the air for nearly a minute - fifteen to twenty-two seconds - stunned and ecstatic, repeating, "Wow, this is flying! Am I flying now?"
Just as Kai thought he was flying, his neighbor saw him suspended in mid-air, eyes wide with wonder, thinking, "How did you do that?"
Kai suddenly lost his concentration and plummeted to the ground.
Kai's mind raced, "I was too brave. Too cocky with my powers. Now someone's seen what I can do... What am I going to do right now?"
