"I need you to deliver this report to Mrs. Felton in the Administration Office. Of course, club-related matters will be carried out after the final exams. I don't think students have much spare time to these now."
Evans nods in agreement, holding the documents in his hands. "Actually, almost everyone is burying themselves in reviewing. Even those who always skipped class have been seen at the library frequently."
Schiller flips through his desk and then hands Evans a stack of papers. "Although I told you that the entire book is important, it's probably unrealistic to expect you to memorize the whole thing at current level. These are the reference materials for the essay topics. Make sure they read them in time..."
Just then, Bruce knocks on the door. Evans says, "I'd better be off, Professor. I'll make all arrangements as soon as possible."
After Bruce enters, he naturally finds a chair to sit on. As Schiller tidies up the teaching materials on his desk, he asks, "Have you finished reviewing?"
"Of course, there wasn't much." Bruce is quite proud of his intelligence and memory.
"You better make sure your essay can pass, otherwise, I'll call your butler...what's his name?"
"Uh, Alfred, Professor. His name is Alfred."
"Oh, yes. If you fail this time, I'll give your butler Alfred a call."
Bruce falls silent for a moment and says, "Well, then please give me some more reference materials..."
He has a subtle feeling. Schiller's natural attitude of "calling parents" makes him feel like he is being treated as a little boy, which makes him somewhat resentful. But when he considers the likely consequences, Bruce thinks it would be better to go back and review the book again.
"What are your plans for the vacation?"
"I have a lot of things to do, you know. What about you?"
"Yesterday, the chief psychiatrist at Arkham Asylum called me. We were classmates. He's been overwhelmed with work and invited me to help. I plan to take two students for an internship."
"Oh? Who do you plan to take?"
"I've already talked to Falcone. Evans is definitely going, his grades are excellent, and he's currently the top student in the class. As for the other one, I haven't decided yet."
Just as Bruce is about to speak, Schiller tells him flat-out, "It certainly won't be you. Your grades are too poor."
Bruce scoffs and talks back, "The situation at the East docks hasn't calmed down yet. Without the Edwards family, many are flexing their muscles. I've been quite busy at night, as is Gordon."
"I see, your heroic burdens don't take up your whole night. How about that charming burglar?"
Bruce retorts, "Recently, I've been busy only with my secret activities. And Maggie,Selina's best friend, isn't well,so she's quiet."
"But..." Bruce smiles, "our righteous lawyer Mr. Harvey seems to be making some moves."
Schiller raises an eyebrow, "He fell for a Gotham girl? That's truly rare. Who has such great charm?"
"Christine, that Christine we know."
"The leader of that cheering squad? I remember she's a fan of Batman?"
"It's Harvey helps Christine to testify the former president that he got arrested again. And because of Harvey's defense, he couldn't use any excuses like medical parole. He was sentenced to 137 years. I'm afraid he won't be coming out again."
"You know, being eloquent and impressive in the courtroom, how can he not win the gratitude and admiration of a girl?"
Schiller playfully taps his temple. "Tsk tsk, our dear lawyer is truly lucky."
After Bruce leaves, Schiller returns to his apartment. He is still chatting with Green Lantern in his mind.
He is quite experienced in this situation. The current Green Lantern is in the same state as Spider-Man right after gaining superpowers.
Clearly, he has obtained the green ring from that alien.
Compared to Peter, Hal is a bit more mature. He is elder, has a pilot's license, and has better psychological resilience than a high school student like Spider-Man. So even though he is excitedly chatting with online friends, he doesn't reveal anything about the aliens and the ring.
Schiller chats with him for a while, then clicks on his avatar and discovers that Green Lantern's powers can be replicated.
Schiller clicks on "copy". Unexpectedly, it takes a long time and there is no system prompt sound.
After a while, he suddenly feels a slight buzzing in his mind from the symbiote.
He calls out Mist a few times, but there is no response. A moment later, the system finally plays a beep.
"World within the ring loads."
Confused, Schiller suddenly receives a series of excited brainwaves from the symbiote, and then he feels something on his finger. He lowers his head and sees a silver-gray, old ring.
Schiller finds it very strange. The system's ability should not be able to copy accessories, and even if the Green Lantern's green power ring was duplicated, it should be green. Why did it become gray?
Then, the symbiote gives Schiller the answer.
The Green Lantern is a very unique superhero. Most of his abilities come from Green Lantern ring, including energy construct creation, force fields, teleportation, and healing abilities. These are all special powers bestowed by the Green Lantern ring.
Therefore, the duplication of the abilities belonging to the Green Lantern, which the system copied, must also have a vessel.
Since Schiller doesn't have a Green Lantern ring, the system turns Mist into the vessel.
"So, the vessel is you. But what is the use of this ring?" Schiller asks the symbiote.
"It's not useful, but it looks good," the symbiote responses.
"All right," Schiller says.
He glances at his finger. The ring is plain, a silver-gray band with a pattern made up of several wavy lines, nothing out of the ordinary. The only strange thing is that it is worn on his ring finger.
"So how do I use this ability?" Schiller asks the symbiote.
"Just think about it in your mind."
Schiller closes his eyes and concentrates. Soon, he finds a gray mist forming within the pitch-black void of his vision, gradually expanding. After a flash of white light, his consciousness appears on an island covered in gray mist.
The island isn't large, and he can see the edge of it with his line of sight. Schiller controls his vision to fly to the edge of the island and looks down.
Underneath the island is an immense city without boundaries.
The island and the city are shrouded in layer upon layer of hazy frog. The city is unbelievably massive, and all the buildings within the haze appear in eerie shapes. Occasionally, giant creatures whose specific forms are unclear can be seen traversing through the city.
This is an isolated island floating above the giant city.
Schiller begins to recall the Green Lantern's world within the ring. In the comics, the Green Lantern ring contains an independent world. Green Lantern has once shrunk his enemies and imprisoned them in this world. He himself has also been trapped in.
Even the owner of the Green Lantern ring seems unable to fully control their worlds within the ring. Just like Schiller now. His consciousness can only stay within the range of this isolated island. The enormous city below, with no discernible details, is completely beyond his control.
However, luckily, the island is likely to have no connection to the city below. The gigantic shadows that occasionally appear in the mist haven't noticed the addition on top of their heads.
Moreover, to Schiller's surprise,he finds that only his body has entered this world. Here, he can still communicate with the symbiote.
He cuts his conscious mind and returns to reality. Schiller looks up and checks the clock. Time is flowing.
In other words, that place is like a separate refuge. In theory, if confronted with a fatal danger, he can enter the misty world, waiting for the crisis to pass.
Schiller thinks, under the huge city beneath that isolated island and the colossal figures looming in mist, there must be significant secrets hidden, and it is likely highly dangerous. It wouldn't be a good idea to stay there for too long, unless facing a threat that endangers his life. This curious and bizarre world within the ring should be avoided when possible.
Later in the evening, Mrs. Fulton from the administrative office knocks. She comes to verify the textbook expenses for the next semester with Schiller, but she is a rather kind lady. She informs Schiller, "Our new president just got discharged from the hospital yesterday. Perhaps he will be back in the office tomorrow."
She subtly reminds him, "He seems a bit anxious, probably wanting to make something big."
Just as Mrs. Fulton has said, Schiller receives a call from Sheldon that evening.
This time, Sheldon seems to have learned his lesson. Instead of pressuring Schiller with demands as he had done at the beginning, he engages in a friendly conversation, emphasizing the importance of hard working. It is only at the end that he mentions that some professor positions at Gotham University might undergo changes because he had invited some old friends from Princeton to recommend experts and professors to form a new team at Gotham University.
Maybe he wants to make Schiller feel nervous with this approach. In the university, professors' resources depend on how much the school values their courses, and Schiller is definitely an imposing sign at Gotham University. His credentials are indeed remarkable, and there are even students from other places who specifically choose Gotham University because of him.
But if more world-class experts and scholars join this university and establish their own laboratories, leading students in researching world-class subjects, then whether the resources of the university will continue to be inclined towards the field of psychology becomes a thought-provoking question.
Initially, Schiller doesn't have much of an opinion on this matter. After all, he also hopes that Gotham University can improve and contribute to his teaching credentials.
However, it is not until he sees Victor Fries on Sheldon's list of newly hired professors.
