The next day, in the living room of a psychological clinic, Peter says, "...that's all. I have to learn how to drive first to pass the driver test."
Schiller pauses for a moment, not thinking it's a big deal. With Peter's smartness, taking him for a drive and showing him the ropes should be enough for him to learn everything.
Without hesitation, he agrees, "No problem. I'm happy to help. I'll take you for a drive first, and you can observe, then you can take over. It won't take the whole afternoon, and you'll learn everything."
After only a few minutes, Schiller sits in the driver's seat, groping a small booklet from somewhere, adjusting the steering wheel while muttering to himself, "Let me see...turning and merging...oh, here it is! Wait, why is this rule so strange?"
Pikachu and Peter sit in the passenger seat, staring at each other. Pikachu leans in and whispers, "I guess he never reads the New York DMV before taking the driving test."
"That's pretty obvious," Peter replies.
"So why don't you think about how he manages to pass the test?"
Peter stiffly looks ahead and says, "As long as I don't think about that question, I can temporarily feel safe."
Within a few minutes, Peter and Schiller stand by the car, shivering in the cold wind of early winter in New York.
Schiller holds the phone, "Hello? Is this the insurance company? Yes...I've sent you the location information...oh, it's not serious, just a scrape on the side... "
Then he covers the receiver and loudly says to the owner of a white Audi next to him, "Shut up!! It's all your fault! Didn't you read the DMV? I was going straight, you can't..."
Twenty minutes later, a flashy red sports car pulls up next to the scene of the accident. Tony Stark, wearing sunglasses, waves at Peter. "Let's go! Uncle Tony will take you to see the beautiful view of the New York coastline!"
Saying that, he makes a contemptuous snort, "You should have come to me from the beginning. Look at this doctor, does he look like a real driver? I bet he never drives over 100 miles in his entire life..."
Peter turns to look at Schiller, who is still on the phone with the insurance company, and then with Pikachu in his arms, he gets into Stark's sports car.
Not long after, Pikachu tightly covers its ears and shouts at Peter in the strong wind, "Why he!!! Racing!!! With the roof open?!!!"
"I don't know!" Peter shouts as well.
"This is the Fast & Furious! Understand?!" Stark shouts as well.
Within a few minutes, the sports car stops at the side of the road. Stark somehow pulls out a small booklet and says while reading, "Damn it... how should I close the roof? I hardly ever drive manually... No, no, no, Jarvis, I don't need your help..."
"Let me see... oh, here it is! What? Vehicle intelligent management system??? Why is it always damn intelligent system? I want to drive manually! This is a lesson, you know!? Can't there be a simple button or something?"
Twenty minutes later, Steve picks up Peter on the roadside with his hair all messed up. Pikachu, struggling to untangle its fur blown into knots, complains, "I shouldn't have believed your nonsense about joyriding. I'm just a rat, I don't need to drive. Why did I come out with you?"
Peter comforts him, "It's okay, Captain America won't be as unreliable as them!"
Indeed, Steve drives a plain black Cadillac, nothing special. After Peter gets in, Steve starts the car smoothly and at least doesn't pull out a booklet to read while driving, which relieves Peter.
But soon, he can't laugh anymore. Steve's speed keeps increasing, not slowing down during turns. Every time he drifts, the tires leave black burn marks on the ground. Peter is slammed onto the other side of the car door, and Pikachu almost flies out of the window from his arms.
Then, when they approach a speed bump, Steve shows no intention of slowing down. In the terrified eyes of Peter and Pikachu, the car dashes straight through the speed bump. After the car's front wheels hit the speed bump, the front part of the car lifts up abruptly.
Steve ignores everything and the car almost flies over the speed bump. Peter is thrown up from his seat, his head hits the car roof hard, and when he falls back down, his waist gets bumped by the seat. He cries out in pain, "Oh!!! My back!!"
Meanwhile, Pikachu has already been slapped onto the windshield.
Still driving relentlessly, Steve sees Peter's miserable state and says with a laugh, "The suspension system in this car is already advanced. When I used to drive on the battlefield, at less than 20 kilometers, my legs and arms would be bruised..."
"Learning to drive always has this process. Speed bumps on the road are much better than nail traps and anti-vehicle obstacles in the battlefield, right?"
Twenty minutes later, Coulson arrives driving the official vehicle of S.H.I.E.L.D, picking up Steve and Peter. Steve complains, "I take back what I said about this car. Its quality is too poor, how did it stall?
Coulson sighs, "Captain, even if you are Captain America, you can't drive without a license on the main road in New York, and speeding as well..."
"Damn driving without a license, how could I not have a license?!"
"Driving licenses issued before 1940 don't count."
Steve purses his lips and insists, "Alright, but at least I wasn't speeding."
"Traffic regulations before 1940 don't count either."
Pikachu sits in Peter's arms, looking hopeless, and says, "...You really know how to make friends."
Peter also looks hopeless and replies, "I thought there would always be someone reliable."
"That's just what you thought."
Coulson turns to ask, "So you wanted to get a driver's license? Why didn't you call us? S.H.I.E.L.D has the authority to issue you an official driver's license, bypassing the Department of Motor Vehicles. We can do it."
Peter says, "If you told me that before today, I would have gladly let you print me an official driver's license right away."
"But now I've learned my lesson, I'll practice by myself. Before I hit the road, I'll memorize the DMV and vehicle instruction manual, and update my license information every year."
Coulson seems quite surprised and looks at Peter approvingly. "There aren't many young people like you, honest and not seeking privileges."
Peter sighs wearily, "That's probably because I'm just too good at making friends."
